Florence dropped her book onto the table in front of her, frowning at it. “But how can anyone actually want to live forever?” She wondered aloud, appearing for all the world to be addressing the book itself.

‘ When you have power, you want to have it forever- don’t you think?’

“Nymphadora!” Andromeda exclaimed, rushing through the crowd and catching her daughter as she began running. “We’ve been over this, you cannot do that.”

Lucius didn’t even flinch when the kid stepped onto his shoe, his eyes  roaming down before looking up at the other. ‘ You’d better lock up your beast next time, Tonks. It’d be a shame for her to dissapear.’

“Christmas.” Septima muttered, eyes landing on a sign for decorations. She hadn’t enjoyed the holidays, or the reminders of them, in years. “Wonderful.”

‘ Are you yet another person who hates Christmas?’ he narrowed an eyebrow. ‘ And people call me annoying.’

“I know I’ve only been in London a few months, but I do not understand the food here at all.”

‘ The food doesn’t change from country to country that much or are you just dilusional?’

“You have the moral backbone of a chocolate éclair.”

‘ And you seem to be getting your lines from a muggle book.’

“This isn’t going as planned.” Scar sighed, turning to her companion. “I hope you know of a way to fix…” She made a grand sweeping motion, “all this.”

‘ You come, screw everything up and expect me to fix it? Bloody hell.’

“Are you ready to go or are you wanting to complain a little more?”

‘ I ain’t going anywhere with you, not even hell.’

“How the hell did I get here?”

‘ Found you on the street- obviously, I couldn’t let you there so I brought you home.’

“I’m sure they don’t keep that foolish notion long,” Narcissa said lightly, sidestepping around anything more serious than their lunch plans. She wasn’t stupid; she knew that many of her friends were on what most could consider the wrong side, but she didn’t care about that. “I do - oh.” She hadn’t expected the invitation and it left her a little flustered, pausing her steps to look at him. It was flattering though, even if she thought he probably did it out of a sense of obligation rather than because he just wanted to. “I’d be delighted. If you’re sure.”

Lucius stopped into his tracks and watched her- he had wanted to see her reaction and seeing her flustered really made him small a little; it meant that she actually cared which was a plus for all this situation. ‘ Of course I am sure.’ he started. ‘ There’s no one else I’d spend that night with.’

“Let’s just hope we can get through one event without some sort of attack happening.”

‘ Let’s hope one happens and kills half of these annoying people.’

“No, I don’t want any champagne.” Florence hastily added a tight “thank you” hoping the words would temper her tone.

‘ Do I look like a servent to you?’

Her smile was genuine as she sent a look in his direction, pleased that he found it amusing as well. She didn’t want him laughing at her, but this was different. And as they were both pureblood, he knew how particular she could be. “I can’t imagine anyone willing to cross you.” Or any of the other high ranking pureblood families. She stepped toward the door, with another curious look at him. “A question? Of course I don’t mind. What is it?”

‘ Oh, trust me- there are plenty.’ Lucius commented nonchalantly; in all honesty, he didn’t think she could understand that part, but he had to comment about it anyways. ‘ I reckon you know about the Christmas ball? I was wondering if you wanted to go with me.’ he opened the door to his office for her as he turned around and faced her, throwing her a small smile as he waited for the answer. 

Narcissa clasped her hands together, watching him straighten out his clothing without really seeing what he was doing. She did decide she liked his hands - they were nice hands, and that seemed like a good sign. “That sounds lovely. I would say I’m not picky but …” Her voice trailed off and she laughed; Narcissa was immensely demanding and particular with everything in her life, food included. “But I assume if it meets with your standards, I’ll approve of it as well.”

‘ You’re not picky?’ he joined into her laught without meaning too- she was one of the most demanding people he knew; not that he minded, he was pretty demanding himself. If not everything was right- he’d leave. Just like that. ‘ I reckon it does, nobody really has the guts to cross me these days. Shall we go?’ he gestured towards the door. ‘  I also have something to ask you, if you don’t mind.’

“Maybe it’s a bit of column a, bit of column b”

‘ So, I was right; I knew that.’

“I don’t think it’s scary you jackass.” Amycus sighed. “I’d just rather not get forced into an ancient tradition that feels rather pointless with a war going on. Getting married is the last thng I care about yet my Mother won’t shut up about it. And no it doesn’t, can’t really see her being all that happy about it either.”

‘ Marriage is the way towards surely alliances, you jackass.’ Lucius didn’t see why someone would ever comment about what their parents told them to do- two many did when he just wanted to do it faster. ‘  Well, figure it out fast- it’s not exactly something you can fake.’

“Am I going nuts? Or are you losing your edge Malfoy?”

‘ The first option for sure; you’re going nuts. I think it’s been happening for a while.’
