In a new image series called ‘Smoking Kills’ artist Mr.Dirns shows famous pop figures who have lost their lives as a result of smoking cigarettes. The images are quite shocking, showing the beloved figure’s photographs slowly burned. The cigarettes are not aggressively smashed and put out on the images, rather they have been lit and then slowly, passively burn, taking parts of the photographs with them

Blasting Acrylics

This series is a continuation of my research of manipulating paint with different natural forces. In the “Black Hole” series, it was centrifugal force, that shaped the paints into colorful carousels. This time I used air pressure to create what I call “liquid jewels”.

despite its colourful appearance, the hawaiian bobtail squid (euprymna scolopes) has the ability to render itself invisible to predators from bellow, thanks to a luminescent bacteria, vibrio fischeri, which inhabits a special light organ in the squid’s mantle. 

the bacteria, which are fed a sugar and amino acid solution by the squid, are able to prevent their nocturnal hosts from being silhouetted when passing though the light of the moon or stars by emitting an equal amount of light on its underside to that which hits the top of the squid.

Processes that produce shapes are a central theme of Christoph Bader’s work: “To me this is a switch from a product oriented thinking to a process oriented way of working. This if often called generative or procedural design. In generative design you as a designer are no longer manly concerned about the outcome or the final product rather you are focused on the process which generates the final result. Designing processes is the business of a generative designer. These processes generate theoretically infinitely many outcomes and as such can be a valuable tool.”
