the term 'axolotl' comes from Nahuatl, the language of the Nahua people (or the aztecs, for the uninitiated). it is derived from atl (water) and xolotl (one of the gods in the pantheon). in nahua, x's make a 'sh' sound, not a 'ks' sound. and when you have a 'tl' at the end of the word, it is best to just omit the l (since, in english it does not flow very naturally to make the Proper sound)

sick and in pain and super frustrated in the free walk in clinic dr office and got a little snappy with alana for something minor and had a legitimately harmless bickering argument about it in the lobby. it was fine and nobody's business but the receptionist had the fucking gall to make alana go sit down so she could tell me off for being rude during our private conversation. i got pissed and told the receptionist she doesn't even know what she's talking about and I walked out before we could even pay for my appointment, she still charged us, and then alana told her that it was wrong for her to say something to me when she didn't know the context and that alana had been in the wrong and the fucking lady argued with alana that she was "just sticking up for you" like girl just admit you're wrong. the person you thought you were defending just told you you were mistaken and you're gonna double down?? what the actual fuck?? and also just the audacity to tell a sick in pain person they're being rude, especially when I hadn't even been rude to her!!!! i was just short and snappy with my girlfriend who I came in with and have years of emotional building done with!!! but I guess this is not safe space for sick patients to be in pain right!! no experiencing discomfort in our dr office!!!

if a sick person cannot express private frustration without being reprimanded in the free clinic where homeless and hungry people are treated then I don't think your clinic is a safe space for the homeless and the hungry. in fact i think if you know somebody is sick, tired, hungry, or homeless and they come into your clinic being mean to you directly, you still have a duty to understand their situation. and if you don't then you haven't created a safe space for people in need to get help

when i was a kid, for a very long time, my thoughts were focused on suicide. when, where, how. came close to acting on those thoughts many times. punching myself was my version self-harm, no cuts, only hideable bruises, i didn't realize it at the time, i just knew it took my mind off of things, that pain.

but why? because no adult in my life saw children as people. i was thing, dragged along to show off how good my parents were. anything different needed to be hid. i was forced to attend school where i was bullied, othered, talked down to, harassed, or ignored otherwise. i had no choices, no way of standing up for myself, because it punished if i did. and i was punished over and over again.

i was hit, i was verbally abused for two decades by my immediate and extended family, and i was sexually abused by my older brother before i was allowed to understand what was happening.

children desperately need rights. they need the power to say no and have that be backed up by a system that will support them. i didnt want to kill myself, i wanted to escape my family and there was no other option available to me. i isolated myself for years because of the abuse i faced and many more never made it past their suicide attempts.

children need rights so that the rampant and plain-as-day abuse they face can have a chance of being stopped. when children have somewhere they can go, away from their families and abusers where they have a guaranteed bed to rest in, when children have the knowledge they need to identify when they're being abused, when children arent forced into labor by parents, guardians, or companies, when children arent forced to say yes to adults, when children have the freedom to express themselves, when children have the freedom to choose who they are and transition,

WHEN CHILDREN CAN SAY "NO"
