#11 The Adam And Eve Challenge
Asherah waited until the next evening. After the sun had began to set and her family's chores were done for the day, she slipped away from the hut on the pretense of going foraging, and headed for the water.
It felt liberating to be following her own mind, carving out her own path. What would be waiting at the base of the volcano for her? Hopefully the answers to curing the land!
Nerves crept in, Ash felt her throat tighten. She had never sailed before, what if the raft began to sink? What if she got stranded too far out? These were all what if's that she knew she had to put aside and persevere.
The water was calm and Ash only had the moonlight to guide her.
Thoughts of turning back crossed her mind. What if her mother and father came looking for her? Who knew how long this journey might take, her parents could stay up all night waiting for her to return from foraging, and what would she come back with to show for it? Would she tell the truth or lie?
Any thoughts vanished as the raft rounded a corner, the volcano's spewing plumes of smoke became visible! There it was! The great fiery mountain her father had spoken of, the volcano the Elders had foretold.
As quickly as the gentle breeze would carry her, Asherah sailed for the shore and landed on the sand. She was in awe as she watched the smoke fill the sky. The earth was pulling her in the right direction, she knew, as she began jogging up the hill.
Up. Up. Up.
Asherah had no idea what she would encounter... but what was waiting was beyond anything she could have guessed.
At the base of the volcano... was a hut, much like the one her own father had built for their family.
A hut for a person to live in!
