this is part of an interesting phenomenon i've noticed where the shorthands people come up with for things wind up being far more annoying than the thing they're actually describing. like if i see a game calling itself a "cozy game" i'm rolling my eyes like good lord we need to put this cozy game shit on the shelf already. but if the same game instead calls itself a "farming sim" i'm just like yup, that's what that is. and then i move on because it's not really my cup of tea. i don't know what to make of this

#As someone who's a fan of farming sims but hates the word cozy being applied anywhere #For me this concept is about the like. Buzzwordiness. Like with 'Cozy' it doesn't mean ANYTHING inherently.#The idyllicism presented by the term doesn't actually say anything about what a game is. How it plays. What it wants to do.#It's describing how it wants you to feel about the game and its design For you in a way #Instead of actually describing the setting and what makes it fit that moniker people just go Oh it's cozy!!! :)#Like it will actively deter me from paying attention to a game if I see it described as Cozy.#I think use of Cozy also kind of misunderstands a lot of games that tend to get hit with that buzzword #And also kind of pigeonholes others. Because like. Gestures at the humble farming sim.#Very routed in Routine so the gameplay is fun for mindlessly sinking into. But games like HMSoS. Stardew. Rune Factory.#They have cores that crack apart if you dig into them at all. Nothing about Pelican Town or the Ferngill Republic's setting is 'cozy.'#Rune Factory games have the idyllic small town settings but they're surrounded by war and strife.#Harvest Moon is known for weird and unsettling shit under the surface. DS / Cute is a fan favourite for this specific reason.#'Cozy' to me in how it's used as a buzzword infers a specific vibe that's devoid from any underlying strife or depth to its worldbuilding #(Tbh I also always associate it with the Witch In the Alps post. Defanging a concept for the sake of Chiller Vibes.#That is Cozy as a buzzword to me! So it gives me the ick to see it in use LOL)#And thus pretty much anything that's just described in buzzword terms gets similar Ick.#Like 'hopepunk / core.' Okay well what's it about. What is the story it's telling that makes you want to have hope and root for those in it #Describe your games properly evreypony.

Had to cancel my trip to Boston because of the heat wave so I ended up rescheduling it for next month & my roommate and I went out today instead! We went to a tea room we've had our eye on for about a year now & also went to the local state park to go swimming at the lake :3
