the childhoodfriends trope is now living rentfree in my head ❤️ Could you write a continuation after Vergil and Y/N see each other again? I keep imagining the moment right after they chase Arius. Dante starts acting like a low key matchmaker. Just genuinely pointing out how much Y/N has grown, that they’re single, and how it must’ve felt for Vergil to see them again after all those years. He’s always known Vergil had a soft spot for them as kids, and maybe he’s even hoping that reconnecting with Y/N might be the thing that finally makes Vergil stay. 🥹
let’s finally get into this one!! i’ve been waiting to be able to get this one through 🥹 walk with me anon!!
a/n: this a continuation to this blurb (win your heart) i recommend reading that first! f! reader
the four of you are chasing arius in an effort to get one of the arcana from him, and the trip there, well… hasn’t been going so well.
it was a mess to get to this moment, after the brothers had a brawl inside of darkcom before getting to arius.
dante and vergil have been at each other’s throats most of the time while you and lady are attempting to leash them both, at least until after this was done.
turns out, you’re on a ticking time bomb to grab one before chaos incarnate is released! isn’t that great?
well, you better get to saving the world before both earth and hell get turned into argosax’s playground.
you all come to a large, barricaded gate with a passcode. but thanks to lady, it doesn’t take long for her to blow the keypad and force the door open.
“let’s go,” lady says, her tone leaving no room for any defiance. you follow next to her while the brothers trail behind the two of you.
the inside is a ruin of the structure, statues, pottery, treasure, and many other things. something shiny catches your eye, causing you to divert your path to what you saw.
to your luck unfortunately, dante takes this as the perfect chance to get on top of his older brother. he doesn’t know how he could ever get vergil to say on earth with him after he’s spent most of his life in makai.
but oh, you. his one weakness. no matter how good an mvp is at a game, there’s always an ace to get straight to checkmate.
and you were the ace to get to vergil’s heart.
dante leans into vergil’s ear, his voice a conspiratorial whisper.
“sooo, vergil. y/n,” dante grins. “been a while, huh? she’s definitely grown, i would say.”
“don’t try to divert me from what we’re looking for.” vergil hisses, but his eyes begin to glimmer with a weird vulnerability.
“come on, man! forget about me for a second. it’s been years since she’s seen you. years since you’ve seen her.” dante throws his hands in the air, gesturing towards you with his head, and vergil’s eyes follow the movement.
you’re crouched over some rubble, finger brushing against a gold bracelet that has the argosax symbol in the inside. cute, but unfortunate that it belongs to a murderous god.
something in vergil’s posture relaxes for a moment longer than he would’ve allowed it to.
as annoying as his brother was, he couldn’t deny that it has been quite some time— maybe even a little too long.
“she’s single too if that helps at all.” dante wiggles his eyebrows, and he’s quick to dodge a swing aimed to the side of his head.
“shut up.”
“you know you were wondering.”
“i was not!” vergil raises his voice, much to their dismay. dante quickly covers his mouth and the two immediately straighten up when your head snaps in their direction.
“you two good?” you ask, tone full of suspicion.
“absolutely! just brothers bonding,” dante answers immediately, his grin so wide it looks guilt and like it hurts, while vergil glares at him.
“hmm.” you simply hum, going back to admiring the little trinkets in your corner.
dante waits a moment before releasing a sigh of relief, moving his hand from vergil’s mouth.
“okay, but seriously, man.” dante continues, his eyes turning serious.
“this has make you feel some kind of way. especially after you’ve been presumed dead all this time. i know it makes y/n feel some way. and we both know you had a soft spot for her as kids.”
vergil continues glaring daggers into dante’s soul, as if he’s contemplating to use devil trigger and blow his brother to smithereens.
but he makes no move to deny anything he’s saying. “what would you know?” vergil murmurs after a minute.
“that you still feel like this because you haven’t pinned me to the wall with my own sword yet. so, go talk to her.”
dante smiles wickedly and shoves vergil in your direction, earning a groan from the elder brother.
a tall, fit shadow looms over you, to which you turn your head to identify who it is. maybe it’s d—
oh, no, it’s not.
“vergil,” you breathe his name, a small smile gracing your lips. he’s not smiling or saying anything, just staring at you with a blank expression.
he suddenly crouches down next to you, glancing to the trinkets you’re also admiring. “what’s all this?” he asks under his breath.
“‘dunno. a bunch of jewlery and things, but they all have argosax’s symbol on it.” you reply, holding up the necklace you were looking at so he could see it.
“a waste, honestly. they’re pretty too.” you huff, blowing your cheeks out slightly.
vergil’s eyes flicker between you and the piece of jewlery a couple of times before he slowly reaches out towards the necklace.
your eyes lock for a minute, and his are asking to see the piece of jewlery. you oblige, and your hands graze for a split second that has your heart skipping multiple beats.
his hand come to the argosax pendant, grasping it and crushing it with his bare fist. the pendant falls as dust to the ground, and you can only watch in awe.
vergil’s hand reaches into a small pocket, pulling out a gentle rock with a hole drilled through it, like a normal pendant.
it’s your favorite color, too.
he gently attaches it to the chain of the necklace, watching it dangle as if it were brand new. vergil turns his body to face you, swallowing lightly before speaking.
“let me.” his voice returns gravelly, a glint of something by unnamed in his eyes.
you turn slowly to have your back facing him, and warm hands come around your neck, settling and clasping the pendant around your frame.
his hands slowly retreat from you, and a hand comes to cradle the new necklace in your hand. “vergil, this is beautiful.”
you turn your head and flash a bright smile, “thank you.”
he blinks once before glancing away and is quick to stand up. “don’t mention it.”
and dante and lady who’s joined not long after, watching the whole mess go down, have smiles on their faces.
phase one complete, you really were the ace after all.
i’ll come back
vergil sparda x f!reader
a/n: childhood friend and halfbreed reader. spoilers for the dmc anime season 2!!!! on that note, episode 8 had be SOBBING. also, use of y/n as a heads up.
you didn’t know what to make of the situation. the moment you come to your senses, you realize you’re somehow in makai— the demon realm.
you look up to meet the large, pink split in the sky— sparda’s barrier, falling apart little by little. your breath hitches in response.
everything comes back in pieces— your short, heart wrenching reunion with vergil, argosax’s unfortunate resurrection, dante telling you to get somewhere safe, the barrier between makai and earth being split open, lady yelling your name as the vortex above sucked you in.
it’s been years since you’ve seen vergil, years of believing that he died that night.
the days where little you and vergil ran around the playground on a bright day, a contagious smile on your face.
“come back!” vergil shouted, his laugh filling the moment.
“better catch me!” you’d squeal back.
or the day where the two of you sat together in a forest, watching the sunset paint the sky in a gorgeous orange.
“do you think i’m dangerous?” vergil asks quietly, and your wide eyes turn to meet his. “not at all.”
his gaze flickers to the ground, eyebrows furrowing in frustration. “mom always told us to never use our powers, even though i’m weaker than dante is.”
vergil grits his teeth. “i’m not as special as he is. but it still makes me someone that shouldn’t ever show who i am. because of…”
“that doesn’t change how i see you.” you say, turning your body towards his. vergil’s breath hitches, but you continue. “if anything, i should be just as dangerous as you. even if i never knew my mom… i know we’re the same thing.”
“…you’re still special to me, vergil.“
vergil stares at you for a moment before glancing away, and you could’ve sworn you caught a smile; and maybe even a blush. “thank you.”
years that you never got to tell him how stupid you are were— holding onto these stubborn feelings for oldest son of sparda.
you didn’t get the chance to even start that kind of conversation. not that he didn’t recognize you, but the timing is oh, so terrible.
and right, you can’t breathe. makai isn’t ideal for any sapiens, as vergil would say— or halfbreeds with no control of their devil triggers.
you barely got to talk to him before literal hell broke loose. glances were shared, but how could you know what was going through his head?
someone’s voice stirrs you awake completely.
“that night, if our positions were switched, would our fates be different? would i have your life, and you mine?”
you sit up in a violent coughing episode, weakly gazing around for either of the sparda siblings. and thankfully, you spot them both, and they’re already looking at you.
“y/n,” vergil’s voice comes out hushed, tone underlying with something undefined.
but that’s not what has your attention.
dante’s being held up by vergil’s fist, tons of blood spilling from his mouth to his jaw. you can hear his struggling attempts to breath through the pain, the sound sending a chilling wave through your spine. vergil’s hand is glowing blue, pulsing against the blood stained on dante’s clothes.
argosax is nowhere to be seen, and someone special is standing before them. mundus, the current king of makai. watching the showdown between the sons of sparda.
“dante! vergil, what—“ your voice responds before your brain can. but before you know it or dante can even respond, he’s gone in the blink of an eye. you look up to find him blasted away towards the rift above, something purple and shiny following him.
it’s the amulet from sparda’s sword. vergil must’ve thrown it up with dante. and better yet, the rift’s beginning to close.
“no!” mundus bellows, his voice shaking the ground below.
your vision’s beginning to black out from the lack of fresh air. your hands slam onto the ground in an attempt to hold yourself up; chest heaving. suddenly, a flash of blue is kneeled in front of you, warm hands grounding you. it’d be nice if it weren’t for the given situation.
“breathe. focus on your darkness.” vergil murmurs, voice commanding. with a weak groan, you manage, summoning whatever you have left of your energy. your vision snaps back with he success, and makai’s air feels less painful to breathe in.
his piercing blue eyes meet yours, close enough to see your reflection in them. “what are you doing, vergil?” you say, voice a near whimper as fear begins to pool within you.
for the first time in years, you see him hesitate, mouth opening before a response comes out. “i can’t tell you. i’ll have to tell you when this is all over.”
“tell me what!?” you question, alarm seeping through. “answer me!” he doesn’t say anything, but his hands unexpectedly hold onto your waist, holding you above him. it’s almost like time has stopped in this moment, like the demon king wasn’t looming above you both.
you’re speechless for a moment, staring down at him in disbelief. “vergil?” his eyes narrow, and the situation dawns on you. he’s sending you back with dante.
“no, wait, please.” your voice wavers, and something in his eyes flicker— regret, or was it something warm?
your limp arms come up to his hands in a desperate attempt to make him put you down. “don’t send me back. i can’t go yet. i just got you back!” you exclaim, eyes frantically searching his face for anything. reluctance, acceptance, something that tells you that he is acknowledging what you want.
“please, vergil. don’t make me go.” your voice breaks, eyes beginning to burn.
to your utter surprise, he cracks the smallest smile ever, softening the edges of his eyes. vergil’s head dips slightly, almost in amusement.
his hands glow the same blue they did on dante, and a horrible, terrifying pressure sends you up. your lungs feel like they’re being crushed under the air pressure, a gasp being ripped from your throat.
towards the rift. away from vergil.
your vision blurs with tears. your heart hurts. please, not again.
“vergil!” you scream. your hand stretches towards his frame that gets smaller the farther you get, the tears falling freely theough the wind.
everything around you falls silent, and only his voice remains. “i’ll come back, y/n. i’ll find you, tell you everything. wait for me until then.”
your voice gives out as the portal closes after you, sealing you out of makai. and away from the man you love after years of lies.
Give me a whole series of this PULEASE
You used to be just his best friend’s little sister. Now you’re all grown up.
When Hajime brought Oikawa home for the first time, you genuinely thought he had dragged a celebrity through the front door.
You were hunched over the kitchen table, pencil tapping against your notebook, drowning in last-minute review sheets for your final year of middle school. The late afternoon light spilled across the floor in warm strips, and then—
The front door slid open.
“WOW! your house is so nice!”
You looked up.
And there he was.
Tooru Oikawa.
His brown hair caught the sunlight, soft and glossy like it had been styled for a magazine shoot instead of volleyball practice. His smile flashed bright and effortless, the kind that made a room feel smaller and warmer all at once.
You stared. Shamelessly.
“Iwa! I didn’t know you had a female replica!” he gasped dramatically, clutching his chest as if he’d just discovered a long-lost twin.
“I’m not a replica,” Hajime deadpanned, already slipping off his shoes. “And don’t call her that.”
You forced yourself to sit up straighter.
“I’m Y/N,” you said, voice much quieter than you intended.
Oikawa’s attention snapped to you fully, and for a split second, you felt pinned in place by those sharp brown eyes.
“Oikawa Tooru,” he said smoothly, offering a hand like he was introducing himself at a press conference. “It’s very nice to meet you.”
You hesitated before shaking it. His grip was warm. Confident.
That was the last thing he said to you before he and Hajime disappeared down the hall, already arguing about practice like you hadn’t just had your entire middle school brain chemistry altered in three seconds.
By the time you officially became a first year at Aoba Johsai, Hajime and Oikawa were third years.
Oikawa had grown taller. Broader. Louder.
And he still barely remembered your name.
“Iwa-chan’s baby sis!” he’d call whenever he spotted you near the front gate, voice echoing across the courtyard like he was announcing a match. “Good morning!”
Your classmates would turn. Whisper.
You wanted to evaporate.
Sometimes, when you walked home with your brother, Oikawa would fall into step beside you, dramatic sighs spilling from his lips about how cruel the world was to talented setters.
Then—without warning—his arm would drape lazily over your shoulders.
“Oi,” Hajime would grunt. “Stop that.”
“I’m just being friendly,” Oikawa would reply, tightening his hold just enough to make your pulse spike.
You’d stiffen every time.
His cologne—clean and faintly sweet—would wrap around you. It was unfair. Your brain would short-circuit, and you were certain he had to notice the way you froze.
If he did, he never mentioned it.
He just smirked like he knew something you didn’t.
You told yourself you didn’t care. You were used to being “Iwaizumi’s little sister.”
But sometimes, when Hajime forgot his water bottle and you had to deliver it to the gym, things felt different.
The sound of sneakers squeaking against the polished floor would echo loudly. The thud of volleyballs. The sharp calls for receives.
And then—
“Y/N!”
Oikawa’s voice would ring out across the entire gym like you were the guest of honor.
He’d wave both arms exaggeratedly, earning a smack to the head from Hajime.
“Quit yelling!” your brother would snap.
“But she came all this way!” Oikawa would pout, jogging over to you. Sweat dampened his hair, strands clinging to his forehead, but somehow he still looked put together. Irritatingly so.
“You’re an angel for bringing Iwa-chan’s water,” he’d say, leaning down slightly to meet your eyes. “Unlike your counterpart who can’t remember basic necessities.”
“Shut up and get back to practice,” Hajime growled from behind him.
You’d hold the bottle out, trying not to focus on how close Oikawa was standing.
“Thank you,” he’d add more softly—quieter than his usual theatrics. Just for you.
Years later, you’d convinced yourself that your silly crush on your brother’s best friend had faded into something distant.
Oikawa had graduated, left Japan, and built a name for himself overseas. Life moved forward the way it always does. You dated other boys—some kind, some exciting, some who almost felt right. But no matter how promising things seemed at first, you still felt yourself chasing a certain feeling.
You had changed since then. You were taller now, your features sharper, your presence steadier. The quiet timidity you once carried had softened into confidence.
You had built a life of your own, moving out of your childhood home to live closer to work, filling your apartment with routines and responsibilities that felt distinctly yours.
Still, when your mother insisted you come home for the holidays, you couldn’t really refuse.
The front door slid open with the same familiar sound it had made your entire life. The scent of home—clean linen and simmering broth—wrapped around you instantly.
“I’m home,” you called automatically, eyes lowered as you slipped off your shoes.
The door slid shut behind you with a soft clack. You straightened, brushing your coat smooth before finally lifting your gaze toward the dining room.
And froze.
Across the table, fanned cards in hand, sat Hajime. Opposite him, leaning back comfortably in his chair like he owned the place, was none other than Tooru Oikawa.
Your breath caught.
He looked different—and yet exactly the same. There was polish to him now, something refined and worldly.
“Oikawa…?” you heard yourself say before your brain could catch up.
His head turned at the sound of your voice, and those familiar brown eyes locked onto yours. For half a second, something unreadable flickered across his face—recognition layered with something softer.
Then he smiled.
“Y/n! You’re home!” he exclaimed brightly, as if you had only stepped out for groceries instead of years. “We’ve been waiting for you.”
You stared at him, completely unprepared.
“Wh—what is he doing here?” you asked.
“He’s here for the holidays,” Hajime replied evenly, placing one of his cards onto the pile without even glancing up. “Don't be weird.”
“Wha- I'm not-,” you shot back on instinct, though your pulse was pounding loud enough to betray you.
Oikawa rested his chin in his palm, elbow propped on the table as he studied you with open curiosity. His gaze moved over you slowly as if he were measuring the difference between memory and reality.
“Wow,” he murmured, a teasing lilt threading through his voice. “You’ve grown up.”
You felt uncomfortable in your own skin, like every place his eyes touched had caught fire.
“You’re… back from Argentina,” you managed, trying to ground yourself in something factual.
He laughed lightly. “Even international superstars get holiday breaks, you know.”
Hajime snorted. “Try to be a little humble.”
You crossed your arms, attempting composure. “I didn’t know you were coming.”
“That was the point,” Oikawa replied smoothly, his eyes never leaving yours. “I wanted it to be a surprise.”
Your stomach flipped in a way that felt dangerously familiar.
A dozen questions swirled through your mind. Didn’t he have his own family to spend the holidays with? Why here? Why your house? Why now?
It would’ve been rude to ask. Especially when he looked so at ease sitting at your family’s table, trading cards with your brother like he’d never left.
Throughout the night, you felt his eyes drifting toward you.
No matter where you stood—by the kitchen counter helping your mom, across the living room pretending to scroll through your phone, refilling your water at the sink—you could feel it. That subtle pull. Like a string tied from him to you.
You told yourself not to look.
If you didn’t meet his gaze, it wouldn’t mean anything. If you didn’t indulge it, those old feelings wouldn’t creep back in. You were an adult now. You knew better than to romanticize proximity.
But every so often, your resolve cracked—and you’d glance up.
And every time, he was already looking.
At dinner, he made it worse.
He could have sat next to Hajime, could have kept things easy and familiar. Instead, he pulled out the chair beside yours without hesitation.
Your shoulders nearly brushed. His knee bumped yours under the table once, then didn’t move very far away afterward.
When he passed you a bowl, his fingers brushed yours—light and deliberate. You swallowed and focused very hard on not reacting.
Later, he leaned in to whisper a comment about Hajime’s food portion, his breath warm against the shell of your ear.
You couldn’t help but laugh.
It slipped out naturally and for a split second it felt exactly like the old days.
By the time your parents excused themselves for bed and Hajime muttered something about a late-night work call, the house had grown quiet.
And suddenly, it was just the two of you.
The living room lights were dimmer now, casting everything in warm gold. The couch felt smaller than you remembered as you sat on one end, leaving polite space between you.
Oikawa closed that space without comment.
He leaned back casually, arm draped along the back of the couch—behind you. Not quite touching. Close enough that you felt the presence of it like a shield, or a trap.
The room seemed to shrink to the size of the cushions beneath you.
“So,” he began lightly, as if this were any normal conversation, “how have you been all these years?”
“Good,” you answered quickly. Too quickly. You forced yourself to elaborate. “As good as it gets, I guess. Work’s been busy. Life’s… going steady.”
You cleared your throat. “How’s volleyball?”
He tilted his head back against the couch and repeated your words in a teasing tone. “As good as it gets, I guess.”
You shot him a look. “I’m being serious.”
His head rolled to the side so he could look at you properly. “It’s good,” he admitted after a second, voice more grounded. “It’s everything I wanted.”
You nodded. “I see you on TV sometimes. It looks like you’re having a blast.”
His posture shifted instantly. He straightened, turning more fully toward you. “You watch me on TV?”
You immediately regretted saying it.
“Not really,” you corrected, eyes drifting to the ceiling as if it held the right answer. “It’s usually on at work. Sports channel’s always playing. When I notice it’s your team, I look for you.”
The silence that followed felt heavier than it should have.
When you glanced back at him, his expression had changed.
The teasing was gone.
“You know,” he said slowly, voice lower now, steadier, “you’ve really changed.”
Your stomach tightened.
“What’s with the sudden shift in conversation?” you deflected, crossing your arms lightly as that familiar, uncomfortable warmth began creeping back under your skin.
He studied you openly. “You used to be so quiet,” he said. “It was hard to get more than two words out of you.”
“Is that why you teased me all the time?” you asked, raising a brow.
He huffed a quiet laugh and leaned back again, arm still stretched behind you.
“Maybe,” he admitted.
You turned slightly toward him despite yourself. “That’s a terrible excuse.”
“Mm.” His gaze flickered over your face, slower this time. “Or maybe I just liked seeing you react.”
Your breath caught faintly.
He didn’t look away.
“And now?” you asked before you could stop yourself.
A small, knowing smile tugged at his mouth.
“Now,” Oikawa said softly, “you don’t react the same way.”
The air between you thickened.
“But,” he added after a beat, eyes dipping briefly to your lips before returning to your gaze, “you still look at me like you’re trying not to.”
Your heart stuttered.
And suddenly, ignoring him felt impossible.
“I always wondered if you knew what you were doing,” you said quietly, forcing the words out before you could second-guess them. “Now I have my answer.”
You turned away after that, unable to hold his gaze any longer. It felt too intense.
The silence that followed wasn’t awkward. It was heavy, pressing down on your chest until breathing felt deliberate. His arm still stretched along the backrest behind you like a quiet reminder of how close he was.
You felt the need to escape. L
ike whatever was coming next was inevitable, and you weren’t sure you were ready for it. That terrified you, because this was something you had once wanted so badly for so long.
You shifted forward slightly. “I should probably go to bed. It’s been a long drive.”
His hand moved before you could stand.
He didn’t grab you. He didn’t trap you. His fingers simply brushed your wrist—light enough that you could have pulled away easily, but firm enough to stop you from pretending this conversation was over.
“Y/n.”
The way he said your name made you pause. It wasn’t playful or exaggerated like it used to be. It was careful.
“What?” you asked, still not turning fully back to him.
There was a brief hesitation behind you, and that alone made your stomach tighten. Oikawa never hesitated. He always had something to say.
“I always knew what I was doing,” he admitted.
You looked at him then.
His expression wasn’t smug or teasing. If anything, it looked restrained.
“You think I didn’t notice?” he asked quietly. “The way you’d freeze up when I got close?”
Heat flooded your face. “I thought you were just being playful.”
A soft laugh left him, but there was no mockery in it. “I was a little playful,” he admitted. “But not because I didn’t care.”
His thumb shifted slightly against your wrist, absentminded, grounding. “Look you were always just Iwa's sister,” he said simply. “but now...”
He rubbed the back of his neck, messing with the brunette strands that delicately sat there. "its hard to see you that same way."
The confession landed between you with startling weight.
“I didn’t come back for you,” he clarified, voice steady. “But sitting next to you tonight, made me relize i should have come back way sooner.”
Your chest felt tight. Every practical part of you screamed that this was complicated. He lived overseas. His career was demanding. You had built a steady life that didn’t revolve around waiting for someone who thrived on movement and ambition.
But none of that changed the fact that you hadn’t pulled your hand away.
“We aren't kids anymore,” he said softly. “And you don’t look at me the same.”
“That’s the problem,” you replied, your voice barely above a whisper. “I don’t know if I can do this casually.”
His brows drew together slightly. “Do what casually?”
“This,” you gestured between you. “Whatever this is. I’m not fifteen anymore. I can’t just pretend it’s harmless teasing.”
Something shifted in his expression. The playful setter who used to rile you up just to see you flustered wasn’t the one sitting in front of you now.
“I’m not asking for that,” he said.
Your breath caught.
“I’m asking if you’re running because you’re scared,” he continued, not unkindly, “or because you don’t want me.”
The question settled heavily in your chest.
You had wanted this for years. But wanting him now meant accepting the risk—the distance, the uncertainty, the possibility of heartbreak. The impending doom you felt wasn’t about him hurting you on purpose.
It was about how much power he still had over you.
And the worst part?
You weren’t sure you wanted him to let go.
“These aren’t new feelings,” he began, his voice steady in a way that made your pulse spike. “I didn’t just wake up today and decide this.”
You watched his expression carefully, searching for a trace of exaggeration—for the dramatic flair he used to hide behind. But there wasn’t any.
“Every time Hajime sent me a family photo,” he continued, “or gave me some random update about how you were doing, I paid attention. Probably more than I should have.”
Your stomach tightened.
“I’d zoom in,” he admitted with a small, almost self-aware smile. “See if you were smiling. See if you looked happy. I told myself it was just curiosity.”
His eyes met yours again, softer now. “It wasn’t.”
The room felt impossibly quiet.
“Being here with you,” he said, the words slower this time, more deliberate, “I don’t want to get updates from him anymore. I don’t want to hear about your life secondhand.”
Your breath hitched faintly.
“I want to hear it from you,” he finished.
There was no grand confession. No sweeping declaration. Just that simple, honest want.
Then, gently, he released your wrist.
For half a second, you thought he was pulling away—that he’d said his piece and was giving you space to retreat.
Instead, his hand slid down, fingers brushing yours before fully lacing around them. His palm was warm, larger, calloused in a way that reminded you of years of setting drills and weight training. Your hand looked small in his.
He didn’t squeeze tightly. He just held on, like he was testing whether you’d pull away.
You didn’t.
Your heart pounded so loudly you were sure he could feel it through your fingertips.
“I spent a long time convincing myself it was bad timing,” he admitted quietly. “That I was leaving, that it wouldn’t be fair. And maybe back then, it wasn’t.”
His thumb brushed lightly over your knuckles, absentminded but grounding.
“But we’re not kids anymore,” he said. “And I’m tired of pretending I don’t look for you every time I come home.”
The vulnerability in his voice unsettled you more than any teasing ever had.
Oikawa Tooru didn’t struggle for words. He didn’t hesitate. Yet here he was, choosing them carefully, like this mattered enough to get right.
Your throat felt tight. “You live across the world,” you whispered. “Your career is there.”
“I know.” He didn’t shy away from it. “I’m not asking you to drop your life. I’m not asking for some dramatic, reckless decision tonight.”
His grip on your hand firmed just slightly.
“I’m asking for a chance,” he said. “A real one. No teasing. Not half-hearted.”
His gaze dipped briefly to your intertwined hands before lifting back to your eyes.
“Let me hear about your day,” he murmured. “Call me when something good happens. Or when something bad does. Let me be part of it instead of standing on the outside pretending I’m not already invested.”
Your chest felt impossibly full.
For years, you had imagined a confession from him being loud—dramatic, overwhelming.
Instead, it was quiet.
Earnest.
And somehow that made it far more dangerous.
Because this wasn’t a fleeting spark.
It was something he had carried with him across an ocean.
And now he was placing it carefully in your hands.
“Okay.”
Your voice was soft when you said it, but your eyes weren’t uncertain. They lifted to his steadily, warm and open in a way that made something inside his chest give out completely.
For a split second, Oikawa genuinely felt like his knees might buckle.
He had imagined a hundred different outcomes to this conversation—rejection disguised as politeness, hesitation, a request for time. He hadn’t prepared himself for quiet acceptance. He hadn’t prepared for you looking at him like that.
He wanted to pull you into him. To bury his face in your shoulder and laugh in relief. To close whatever careful distance still lingered between you.
Instead, he stayed where he was, fingers still wrapped around yours, afraid that if he moved too fast, he’d break the moment.
“My day today…” you began lightly, a teasing smile curving your lips as your thumb brushed faintly against his knuckles. “It’s going pretty well.”
His eyes narrowed slightly, catching the shift in your tone.
“And?” he prompted, stepping closer without thinking. The space between you shrank until he could feel the warmth radiating from you. “Don’t leave me hanging.”
You tilted your head just slightly, clearly aware of the effect you were having now. The confidence in you was new, and it made his breath catch.
“But it could be better if…” you trailed off.
“If what?” he asked, voice lower than before.
There was no joke in it now. No mockery. Just anticipation.
You didn’t answer right away.
Instead, you rose onto your tiptoes, your free hand tightening gently around his as you tugged him down toward you. It wasn’t forceful—just enough of a pull to make your intention clear.
For once, Oikawa Tooru didn’t say a word.
Your lips met his softly.
It wasn’t rushed. It wasn’t desperate. There was no clumsy collision of teeth or frantic urgency. It was slow, warm, intentional—like both of you understood exactly what this meant.
His hand slid instinctively to your waist, holding you steady as he melted into it. He had imagined kissing you before, years ago in fleeting, guilty thoughts he’d quickly pushed aside.
This was better than any of them.
When you pulled back slightly, just enough to breathe, his forehead rested against yours. His thumb brushed along your side absentmindedly, like he needed to confirm you were real.
“…Yeah,” he murmured softly, a faint, breathless laugh escaping him. “That definitely made it better.”
Your smile was shy but sure now.
And as he looked at you—really looked at you—Oikawa realized something that would’ve terrified him years ago.
This wasn’t a crush he could outgrow.
This was something he intended to keep.
microdose - OIKAWA T.
your electric touch, got me feeling like i might fold.
oikawa tōru x f!reader basically just tōru being hopelessly in love with you.
the grand king of aoba johsai is a liar.
it’s a well-documented fact, really. he lies about how much milk bread he’s eaten, he lies about how much his knee hurts, and he most certainly lies about the state of his nervous system whenever you are within a five-mile radius. oikawa operates on a level of theatricality that would make a broadway lead look humble, strutting across the court with a smirk so sharp it could probably slice through the volleyball net.
but here’s the secret: his confidence is a house of cards, and you are a category 5 hurricane.

Some believe that soulmates are destined partners, someone to nurture—to love. Others treat them as an unwanted anchor, a reminder that one can never escape fate. So where did that leave you? As someone who avoids their soulmate altogether? As someone who fears their soulmate without having even met them? A chance saving from the hot-n-cold hero whose name has followed you since birth. Ideas of peace are challenged, past regrets resurface, and you learn that soulmates may tether you in ways more than a mere mark on your skin.

Single Dad Dilf!Gojo x Daycare Teacher!Reader
Single dad gojo, thats it.
I. You first meet Gojo when he drops off baby Gojo at your daycare class. He’s late, has his sunglasses on and wearing a ridiculous grin like he owns the place. You’re frazzled- a little annoyed - but still polite, because wow, he’s... a lot.
II. Baby Gojo is actually the sweetest child, quiet, a little shy, and instantly clings to you. His dad notices and teases, “Guess you’ve got good taste, kid.”
??!!
III. Gojo never misses a chance to linger longer than other parents when he picks up baby Gojo. He especially loves brush his fingers against yours as you hand him baby Gojo's little backpack. You can still feel his burning gaze on you as you start to tidy up and put the toys back in their place.
IV. He calls you “Miss Y/N” in this mockingly formal way, always with that playful smirk. Baby Gojo repeating after his father in his tiny voice.
V. You’re inexperienced with flirting, so every time he teases you, you either stammer, get flustered, or change the subject to Baby Gojo- much to his amusement.
VI. The other teachers notice. They joke about how Gojo only remembers to sign forms or bring snacks if you’re the one reminding him. He ignores their emails but answers yours instantly.
VII. Gojo casually drops hints about his life, he cooks sometimes ( burns it, actually ) his baby's favorite bedtime story, his busy work schedule, his love for candy ( almost as sweet as you ). He does it all effortlessly, like he knows you’ll get curious.
VIII. You once apologized for rambling about something small, and he leaned in close, voice low, “I like hearing you talk, y’know. Don’t hold back.” It made you freeze, clutching the crayon box in your hands like it was the only thing keeping your heart in your chest.
IX. Baby Gojo has taken a liking in you. Everytime his dad drops him off, and tries to say goodbye, the boy's whole attention seems to be fixated on you and you only as he grips your shirt tightly with his tiny fists and leans his head on your chest.
Dilf!Gojo suddenly leans in close, and you're heart is about to fall out of your ass before he lowers his head and places a soft kiss on his baby's cheek. His warm breath hits your collarbones and you're doused in his smell. Then he has the audacity to stand back up and smirk?!
"You smell really sweet, teach."
Wha-
"You're perfume, I mean, I like it."
X. You were crouched down, helping baby Gojo with his tiny expensive shoes one day. When you picked him up to hand him over to his dad, you saw his dad's sleazy eyes dart up and away from you.
Was he seriously staring at your ass while you were helping his kid?! Not that you mind...why did you lowkey like it..
XI. One day, the sky is grey and it's pouring rain when he picks up baby Gojo - 5 minutes too late, of course - and he insists on driving you home. "Really, I can't let you get all wet while going home, you'll get sick, then you'll have to stay home and baby Gojo will miss you~"
just baby Gojo?
XII. You’re not used to attention from older men or men in general and it's as if Gojo knew that. He's always testing how much he can push you. A hand brushing your back when he passes you, leaning too close when showing you a picture on his phone, seeing how red you’ll get.
XIII. You often wonder if you’re imagining it all—if he’s just playful with everyone—but then he says things like, “You’re too sweet for your own good. Gotta watch out, or someone’ll snatch you up.”
XIV. And maybe, just maybe, you wouldn’t mind if that someone was him. Especially when you catch him at the classroom window, baby on his hip, waving at you like you’re already family.
akaashikeiji, who notices you one day at the library. he sees you reading the powerpoint slides in front of you before jotting down notes in your notebook. he studies the way your hands make random gestures and move as you mutter to yourself, recalling and remembering your lecture. he finds the gestures a bit weird, but maybe it was your way of studying.
akaashikeiji, who comes back to the library the next day and finds you reading a book this time. you calmly flip through the pages of your book as your head unconsciously bops to the music. the book you’re reading is a book that he considers a favorite of his, which makes his face light up. when he asked people about that book, they weren’t familiar with it, yet here you are, headphones on and your eyes reading the pages of one of his favorite books. he wants to approach you and ask what you thought about it, but that would be rude of him. he doesn’t want to disturb you while you are reading, so he walks away and decides to ask you about it next time (and to ask for your name).
akaashikeiji, who is scanning the book titles of one shelf. he is trying to find a specific textbook for one of his academic papers until he notices the title of his favorite book. he wonders if it was the same copy you were reading the other day. ‘it’s probably a spare copy,’ he thinks, yet he still grabs it from the shelf and checks the library card. low and behold, there’s a new name written under his own name. he smiles when he notices that your name fits you and repeats your name over and over in his head all day, but it was just to remember your name when he asks about your thoughts on the book.
akaashi keiji, who finally approaches you. it’s a fairly busy day in the library, and there aren’t a lot of spaces available (his usual spot is taken). you’re sitting at a big table with numerous books surrounding you as you write down notes. he gathers his courage and approaches you. “excuse me,” he clears his throat, making you remove one of your earphones. “is this seat taken?” he asks, gesturing to the seat at the end of the table. he didn’t want to sit in front of or beside you to not make you uncomfortable or bother you. you smile up at him and shake your head, “no, go ahead.” he smiles and sits down at your table. while you’re taking down notes, he observes the titles of the books around you and takes a mental note of the books you’re reading and borrowing.
akaashi keiji, who suddenly is borrowing a lot of books similar to the ones you borrow or read. he feels a sense of relief whenever he doesn’t spot your name already written on the library card. he makes sure that his name is written legibly and neatly, so you can write yours underneath his. he reads the books and finds himself enjoying them, not only because of the plot or the writing, but also because he learns more about you: your major, favorite writing styles, favorite topics, favorite authors, etc.
akaashikeiji, who recognizes your figure leaving the library as he was entering. you’re on your phone as you both cross paths, and unfortunately, you don’t see him. you bump into his chest, making your cheeks heat up in embarrassment, and apologize. “it’s alright,” he assures you as he flashes you a small smile. he watches you bow towards him again before walking away. when he turns back front, he notices a small bookmark on the ground. he picks it up, and he instantly notices your name written on the bottom. he looks back in the direction you walked in to see if you were still around, but you were already gone. he sighs before placing the bookmark in his binder, promising himself that he will give it to you the next time you’re at the library.
akaashikeiji, who observes the way your back moves as you take a nap on the library table. it’s midterm season, so it was no surprise that you were also at the library. you’re already asleep when he sits down at the same table, so he makes sure that he’s extra quiet. time passes by, and the library is closing soon. to not be scolded by the librarian, he carefully walks up to you and gently shakes your shoulder. you wake up and look up at him groggily. “sorry, but the library is closing soon,” he whispers, fully apologetic for waking you from your peaceful slumber. you yawn and rub your eyes before you thank him and start gathering your things. he quickly remembers your fallen bookmark from last time, so he takes the bookmark from his binder and hands it to you. “oh, by the way, you bumped into me the other day, and this probably fell out of your book.” you only look up at him with surprise and full appreciation before thanking him profusely. you don’t know that he made extra sure that your bookmark wouldn’t fold or get any marks to not upset you.
akaashikeiji, who is finding for a seat again. it’s an unusually busy day for the library, so his eyes scan his surroundings, trying to find an available seat, and he spots you, like he always does. you’re sitting, reading another book at a small table, and by some miracle, the seat in front of you is empty. as he’s approaching you, you look up and flash him a smile. “hi! you were the one who found and returned my bookmark the other day?” you ask. “yes, that would be me,” he grins, and you thank him again for his kind gesture, to which he says that it was no problem. he then asks if you’re sitting with anyone, but you only shake your head. he takes the seat in front of you and unpacks his things. “oh, i just realized i never asked for your name,” you say, and when he introduces himself to you, your eyes sparkle and your face lights up. “oh! you’re the akaashi keiji that i keep seeing in the library cards of the books i read! it seems like you’ve already borrowed every single book in this library.” he only laughs, and he thinks that that is close to the truth, but he doesn’t mind it because you’ve now noticed him.

How to survive Akaashi Keiji
Synopsis:
Every Thursday and Saturday at five pm, Keiji Akaashi occupies the same café seat, orders the same black coffee, and reads the most absurd books you’ve ever seen. You, the barista who definitely doesn’t memorize his routine (or his sharp jawline, or his perfect hair, or-), are determined to crack his stoic shell.
Cw: gn!reader, Akaashi is canonically weird (and a nerd), coffee shop au, fluff, meet-cute, neither of them knows how to flirt.
Wc: 1.5k
Not beta read!
A/n: this took me quite some time because I really wanted to capture Akaashi's personality properly. Not sure if I managed to or not lol but I really hope I did a decent job.
Btw all the book mentioned are actually real! I put hyperlinks in case anyone wanted to check them out.
The fourth seat to the left, just by the window. That was his spot.
Every Thursday and Saturday at five PM, like clockwork, he would walk through the café doors— Tall, composed, his sharp eyes scanning the room before settling on that same corner table. The one bathed in golden afternoon light, where the hum of the coffee machine was just distant enough to not be distracting.

all tooru has ever done is prove to you how terrible of a flake he can be, skipping hangouts for practice and cram nights for dates. lately, your chat has become a minefield of “sorry, can we raincheck?” texts, often sent when you’re ten minutes deep into waiting for him.
and yet. here he is, standing by your gate with a sheepish smile, hair messy and free of gel. his glasses sit a little crooked on his face, like he’d forgotten them until the very last minute.
