A drabble for @loveofmirsan's seasons of Mirsan <3 I wish I had more time to do more for this event, but I'm glad I was able to get these done, even if it was late.

“What are you doing?” Sango’s voice floated along the wind with colorful leaves. She stood behind him, peering over his shoulder. Her swollen belly bumped lightly against his back.

“Saying goodbye,” he answered, the prayer beads a weight in his unscarred hand.

Sango hummed, kneeling next to him. “You don’t want to keep them as a reminder?”

His head shook, letting the aquamarine beads be swept up in a wave of fire. He leaned his head against her shoulder, letting his bare hand rest on her stomach.

Flushed cheeks. Swollen lips. Brown eyes captured him in a heated gaze. Fingers trailed lightly upon his skin, commanding goosebumps to rise in their wake. A hitch of their entwined breaths. A pull that was stronger than gravity as they succumbed to their desires. 

Miroku had dreamed of this moment for months. Had thought it was out of reach. She was perfection.

He had never felt such intense heat before, but he prayed it wouldn’t be the last time. That he could bask in her sun day after day, letting it consume his very soul.

A light breeze tickled the palm of his hand. His heart lodged itself between his ribcage, blind panic taking hold. A callused hand brushed against his, skin against skin. A silent reminder. 

He released a shaky breath, fingers entwining with hers. He relished the feeling of her hand in his, committing the warmth to memory. He brought her hand up, lips pressing against the bare skin as if a simple act could explain the thoughts and feelings rushing through him at this very moment.

“I love you, Miroku.”

Miroku was meant to be alone. He’d known it the moment he lost his father to Naraku’s curse. Known he could never make ties once the hole appeared on his palm, threatening to take his and everyone’s life around him.

It was safer this way.

They were supposed to be temporary. A means to an end. A fleeting hello and an inevitable goodbye. 

So why couldn’t he leave?

The last of the lingering snowflakes kissed his cheek. A hand lingered on his shoulder, strong, yet gentle. Warm brown eyes caught his attention, not for the first time.
