because we srsly need to do something with “lecturer and international best-selling author on mutant-related issues” that canon brought up because like…killing her off without ever giving that aspect much attention was such a waste because again, like I said in that post on her blog, there have to be people around the world speaking on this thing that AREN’T Magneto, Xavier, and American politicians. And here one was! And she was a WOC from a non-Western country and a unique human/mutant status like her perspective would have been so interesting to add to the conversation?!

I also meant to write a longer post on this for her blog but…I feel like her book was probably more emphatic on mutants in the frame of religion, spirituality, and philosophy more than science and politics like the usual focus is on? Because Haven was so religious, and she was extremely educated (she studied at the top univeries in the US) and she was interested in ALL religions and like…mutants in religion are never really talked about in canon beyond some token Christian fundamentalists saying generic GOD HATES MUTIES! DEMONSPAWN! stuff but what about other Christians? How do mutants fit into their worldview? Buddhists? Hindus? Wiccans?

Since mutants are totally new (ok, there are ancient ones like Apocalypse and Selene but they are not known to people who aren’t superheroes) and religious texts are largely very old, it’s likely that there’s no more in the religious texts of the Marvel universe(s) related to mutants than there is in ours. And many people will nonetheless be looking to their faiths and these texts for answers about mutants and what their emergence means and how they are to be treated, and as someone who has probably studied numerous such texts in fucking depth Haven’s probably got a billion opinions on this and SDJKSAKK I WANT THESE THINGS TO BE TALKED ABOUT AND HAVEN WAS THE PERFECT PERSON TO TALK ABOUT IT
