Η γκαλερί Σκορδ Αρτ φιλοξενεί, για πρώτη φορά, δύο από τους πιο γνωστούς καλιτέχνες στένσιλ της Αθήνας, που θα παρουσιάσουν την δική τους αισθητική των δρόμων της Αθήνας!
Ο Λότεκ είναι ένας μυθικός χαρακτήρας που αποτυπώνει τα στένσιλ του στους δρόμους της Αθήνας και όχι μόνο από το 2011. Οι τοίχοι της Αθήνας και η αφθονία των γκραφίτι δίνουν την ευκαιρία σε καλιτέχνες να εκφραστούν σε μια μεγάλη αστική γκαλερί. Τα τρένα είναι καλυμμένα από άκρη σε άκρη και οι τοίχοι αφισοκολλημένοι και γεμάτοι με γκραφίτι και σλόγκαν. Η ευκαιρίες για δημιουργικότητα είναι απεριόριστες.
Το όνομα Λότεκ βγαίνει από το διήγημα του Γουίλιαμ Γκίμπσον "Ο Μνημονικός Τζόνι" (Johnny Mnemonic). Σε αυτή την ιστορία, που διαδραματίζεται το 2021, ο κόσμος διοικείται από εταιρίες. Μια αντι-εξουσιαστική συμμορία, οι Lo-Teck, φαινομενικά μια προτόγονη εγκληματική συμμορία, που στην πραγματικότητα είναι από τους καλύτερους χάκερς, μεταξύ άλλων. Σε αυτή την δυστοπική εκδοχή του μέλλοντος οι Lo-Tecks κρύβουν τους εαυτούς τους πίσω από ένα μύθο και πολεμούν την εξουσία.
Έτσι ο Λότεκ οικιοποιήθηκε το όνομα της συμμορίας και υπογράφει με αυτό δίπλα στις δημιουργίες που κάνει τη νύχτα.
Ο I <3 Sugar είναι οδοντίατρος και ξεκίνησε να κάνει στένσιλς το 2006 στο Μπρίστολ της Αγγλίας. Επιστρέφοντας στην Ελλάδα ένα χρόνο αργότερα και μετά από μια σειρά λανθασμένων αποφάσεων και συγκυριών, κατάφερε να είναι ένα από τα τελευταία θύματα των τραπεζών, παίρνοντας δάνειο για να ανοίξει το δικό του οδοντιατρείο, λίγο πριν σκάσει το brand name της κρίσης.
Κάπου εκεί ανακάλυψε ότι μπορεί να κόβει τα στένσιλ του με τον οδοντιατρικό τροχό, πράγμα που τον βοήθησε να εχει κόψει πάνω από 300 στένσιλ.
Από τότε "χτυπάει" ανελειπώς στένσιλ στους δρόμους της Αθήνας, αλλά και σε άλλες πολειςκαι χώρες που έχει επισκεφτεί, όπως στην Βουλγαρία το 'Αμστερνταμ,το Βερολίνο και η Ιστανμπούλ.

Stencil Exhibition
HIGH TECK - LOW LIFE 2
We are proud to host a stencil exhibition of two of the most known stencil artists in Athens, I <3 Sugar and Lotek, presenting their aesthetics of the athenian streets in Skord Art Gallery for the first time!
Lotek is a mythical character who has been putting up stencils around Athens, and sometimes beyond, since 2011. The crumbling walls of Athens and the abundance of graffiti and street art lends itself to self expression in the urban gallery. The trains are covered from end to end, the walls pasted with posters, sprayed with slogans and covered with art. The state is weak and it feels like the end of the world sometimes and creativity is free and unhindered.
The name Lotek, is derived from the short story by William Gibson called Johnny Mnemonic. In this story, which takes place in 2021, the world is ruled by corporations. An anti-authoritarian gang that exists in this world are called Lo-Teks, a seemingly primitive criminal gang who are in fact not low tech at all, but high tech hackers, amongst other things. In this dystopian vision of the future the Lo-Teks cover themselves in myth and fight power.
So I liked the name and stole it as my own and sign it next to little creations that I put up in the night.
I <3 Sugar is a dentist who started doing stencils in 2006 in Bristol. Returning to Greece, a year later, a series of unfortunate decision making led him to take a bank loan in order to start his own dental practice and found himself being one of the last victims of the banks, just before the crisis brand name made an appearance.
It was then that he realized he could cut stencils with the dental drill, a realization that helped him cut over 300 stencils!
Since then he has been posting his work expressing his beliefs, using cinema, comics and portraits of his friends as his inspirational patterns. His work can be found not only at the streets of Athens, but to other European countries and cities such as Bulgaria ,Berlin,Amsterdam and Istanbul.
