There will always be gains. There will always be days you go off plan. I think we should allow ourselves to and as long as we have realistic expectations of what the scale will be that week and don't let it completely derail us then we'll be fine. Life is about balance. You won't succeed if you don't let yourself have any cheat days or have any gains without getting really down on yourself. I went off plan for 3 days. I don't regret it.
