I’m currently struggling to get work because I had childhood epilepsy and my stupid paediatrician never wrote down when I was considered cured.

(Btw the law isn’t based on how long it’s been since epilepsy, it’s based on what AGE you had it) and 11 is considered too old to mark an adult as epilepsy free)

I think a blatantly backwards law like that going completely unquestioned by anyone in position of power is ableism.

Similarly, a friend with current epilepsy was denied an unpaid apprenticeship because of epilepsy. “Nah we can’t have you fainting while… sitting and watching. Thats dangerous!” (Nvm that his only trigger is not taking his meds and he hasn’t had a seizure in eons)

Also seizure treatment is incredibly simple and should be taught more. Or at least be a part of first aid training as it CAN happen to anyone. I think if more people knew what to do in case of seizure, less people would be scared to interact with epileptic people.

This is indeed ableism!
