Most AO3 writers don’t care. We write out-of-character stuff all the time on there. When I was 16 I wrote a fanfiction where Homestar has a hyperrealistic panic attack in the shower over survivors guilt and everyone loved it despite the sheer concept of it being so insanely absurd and unlike something you’d see in the actual show lol

If anyone else has morality anxiety/ocd here's some affirmations

You are not a bad person if you scroll past those "If you care about x" videos

You are not a bad person if you can't donate money

You are not personally responsible for anyone's death. You are not personally responsible for anyone not receiving medical care. You are not personally responsible for anyone becoming homeless.

You are not a bad person for being unable to help in every world crisis.

You are not siding with the opressor for scrolling past one video

How you engage online is not a full reflection of your irl morals.

You are allowed to curate your social media in a way that brings you peace.

You are not a bad person or moral failure for not being up to date on every world issue.

People who say "if you care about x, if you don't engage y is going to die, if you ignore this you're siding with the opressor" etc are engagement farming, and yes its to get the word out to people who can help, but it doesn't have to come at the cost of your sanity.
