Drum Corps: Inspiration & Distraction
You know that Drum Corps season is in full force when your twitter timeline is nothing but page after page of Drum Corps related tweets. It is helping to provide a distraction from what has been a very stressful 24 hrs. As my son does frequently he stops breathing several times, well more like a few dozen times over a 2-3 day period. It is stressful, watching hovering and waiting for the next time I have to save his life. Scary stuff! That is the life of a parent with a child that has medical complex needs. Back to Drum Corps. I really miss marching and with the element of social media this year it is amazing how connected the drum corps world will be this season. Already videos are surfacing and it is exciting. This is the time of year I am the most inspired with my writing. I think it is the energy and musicality that swells from the groups. The artistic reverence and avante garde techniques designed to push the limits and evoke emotion.
Good luck to all the corps as you begin this season's tour. If you have never expereinced a drum corps show live, this I suggest you head to DCI.org and find a show near you. I promise you will be amazed at the skill and talent of these young individuals. It is something everyone should expereince.
