Final Video Reflection

Hi everyone!

Congratulations to all of us on this journey! I believe that we will experience more things in the future, and I believe that everyone will do better in the future work. Thank you all for your attention and support this semester.

This week I need to make a new Waikiki map for our company, the requirement is to include all the street and hotel names in the Waikiki area. The original map has been in use for a long time, and since the epidemic, some hotels have closed or changed, and Waikiki, as the main Trolley pickup point, needs to maintain accurate and up-to-date routes. I first used different color blocks to distinguish the main areas of Waikiki, and then used Google Maps as a reference to create each street and hotel.

I actually spent more time making this map than I expected, because there are many details that need to be slowly added and changed. In addition, to ensure accuracy, I need to be very careful to label and confirm each street and hotel. There are too many hotels in Waikiki, I deeply realized it when I made this map. But when it was finally done, it gave me a sense of accomplishment. 

About deliverable:

This week I finished recording two interview videos of my video series with Nathan from IT and Sam from Multimedia department. After that I will organize the footage from the previous shots and start editing the video.

This two weeks I've been busy working with a company in Hawaii (Oahu's BEST Coupons) and we'll be putting our trolley’s ad on their coupon book. This is the first time I've worked with E NOA independently to meet a client and complete this project.

I first had some basic communication with the project leader of the other party by phone, and then slowly entered the details according to the needs of both parties. After getting the exact dimensions, I started thinking about the composition. Considering that the actual coupon book is only about the size of a palm, I didn't want to put too much information on it, so I chose a large image that can good shows Trolley, and then marked some key information.

In fact, when I first handed in the design, the person who in charge of the coupon book suggested us to put more text information. But after discussions with my supervisor, we finally decided to keep our original idea, which is to have have a simple and intuitive look. After making the final tweaks and revisions, I submitted the final version and explained our ideas with their lead. Fortunately, through communication, their project managers also expressed understanding and recognition. After that, we will continue to observe the effectiveness of this advertisements through specific QR codes.

This week, our department experienced the full itinerary of one of our company's tours. One is to make us more familiar with each attraction for future creations, and the other is to hope that we can get real feedback from drivers and this route. We pretended to be tourists and went on this little tour with other real tourists. But unlike other tourists, we are not simply visiting and playing. After arriving at various attractions, we took a lot of photos during the stay to provide material for future creations. It was a super hot day and the sun was strong. At the end of the day, we were all tired and slept on the trolley.

Back at the base, we had a meeting to summarize the areas for improvement on the route, including drivers, route planning, and stop times between attractions, etc. I always feel very tired every time we go out to shoot, and the camera is really much heavier than I thought, but we have gained a lot overall and captured many good photos. 

Next week, I'm going to record some work routine in the IT department for my video series.

This week I received a new project to make a new A Frame for our sales office that located at Waikiki Shopping Plaza, and this which will be placed at the Waikiki Trolley pickup point. After receiving the relevant information and dimensions, I moved on to the design step. I started to draw a few drafts on paper, but none of them were satisfactory. After some thought, I came up with an idea, I started to draw a road on the drawing board, and then placed a few of the most popular stops on the road around the road, and attached photos of those spots. The location of the stops is distinguished by the color of the corresponding line for people's reference. After a few revisions in illustrator, I submitted the final version and also got a positive response from the sales office. 

The manager took me to the printing room, which was the first time I had seen such a large printer. Although the process from printing to cutting is not difficult, the operation is very cumbersome. Fortunately, my manager is always patient to explain and demonstrate to me over and over again, I’m very appreciate it. Overall, I learned something new again this week!

This week our department is preparing to make a new calendar for company employees, so a lot of photos need to be taken. Before taking the photo, we made an appointment with the co-worker who will be involved in the photo shoot, and then prepared the equipment and props according to the plan. Since I don't have much experience in taking pictures, this time I served as our photographer's assistant. Instead of the ordinary calendar, we chose a more funky shooting style. We took a lot of fun and good photos with different scene collocations and lighting. Although the filming process was tiring, I found it very interesting and learned a lot of new skills, especially when our co-worker looked satisfied after seeing the photos. After all photos are taken, we should get into the processing of photos editing. Looking forward to see the new calendar!

During my internship at E Noa this week, I worked on the company's promotional video for Waikiki Trolley. This is my first time shooting with a drone, it made me nervous and excited. Fortunately, my supervisor gave me a lot of confidence, he patiently taught me every step, and I gradually became proficient during the practice process. We mainly shot on the road between Sandy Beach and Mapapu'u Lookout, the three of us worked together to shoot video and photos at the same time, the whole process took about two and a half hours. From this shooting, I learned a lot of new things, and I look forward to sharing with you after the completion of the promotional video.

Then, I was arranged to do several new designs for the mini bus. After the supervisor explained some requirements to me, I went into the design. I referenced and compared the previous design of mini bus, and searched for some travel routes and features of the mini bus from our official website, hoping to get some inspiration from it. Finally, I decided to kept their most iconic image color, orange. Also, since the bus doesn't have a lot of space, I tried to keep the design clean and simple. Currently, I have submitted a total of two different designs and are waiting for a response from the sales department.

This is my first week of internship at E Noa Corporation, a local Hawaii tour company that runs both Waikiki Trolley and E Noa Tours. In this week, the first task I got was to make a project for their Instagram that would be posting periodically, and the purpose is to connect and interact with their followers on social platforms while posting some promotional photos.

We decided to make a fun and challenging weekly post called "Spot the Difference", I am in charge of editing the image in Photoshop, adding or subtracting three elements from the original image, and then posting on Instagrams stories every week. 

So far, I have completed a total of 13 such comparison pictures. This kind of work is very interesting for me, but in the repeated photo editing process, sometimes I also feel distressed about which part of the image should be change, but the people in our office are always friendly to me and sometimes give me advice during the work process, so I feel both challenging and fun at work.
