“Just a warning she may be very shy, she doesn’t really like meeting new people so don’t take it personally!” You explain, biting your lip overthinking the different possibilities of what could happen.
“Sweetheart it’s ok, it will all be ok I promise” Bob reassures, gently cupping your cheek to get you to stop biting your lip. “And if it doesn’t go well we don’t have to force it and just give her time and try again. Or not, whatever happens we can work through it, remember that” He gently reminds, moving his thumb across your cheek.
“Yeah… yeah ok” You mumble slowly nodding along to his words. You take a deep breath in, then out. “Ok, Be right back…” You disappear into a hallway leaving him alone in your living.
This is the first time a boyfriend of yours is meeting your daughter and you are nervous as hell. You really like Bob, you may even be falling for him though you are scared to admit that as it's only been dating for a couple of months.
You are very open about the fact that you are a mother since the very beginning and Bob took that in stride. He always understands when you have to cancel a date to take care of your daughter. He doesn’t mind your constant anxiety about being away from her. He will wait patiently while you call the babysitter to make sure she is ok. To Bob, you being a mother wasn’t a downside for you, it was something that made him like you even more.
Though Bob has always been curious about seeing you in ‘mom mode’ and meeting your daughter. But he never pushed knowing how personal and how important this was to you. So when you asked if Bob wanted to meet her, Bob was more than excited to say yes.
You walk out back into the living room with a little girl trailing behind you. She is practically a little version of you, not a trace of your ex-husband in sight. She has all your same features right down to the same nervous expression on her little face.
You step to the side and your hand lands in her hair gently messing with it. “Alright baby, this is Momma’s special friend I’ve been telling you about. Would you like to go say hi?” You gently prod.
She looks over at Bob, up at you and then back at you, her lip slightly quivering and she goes back to hiding behind your leg. She buries her face in your leg and you hear a little shy whimper. You wince about to apologize but then Bob shifts.
Bob moves down to the floor, or no not the floor just so he’s eye level with your daughter. “Hi there, I’m Bob. I’m one of your mommy’s friends. It's nice to meet you!” Bob says gently with a bright smile on his face.
She peaks her head out from behind your leg and eyes him cautiously. “I’m glad I finally got to meet you, your mommy talks about you alot. She tells me you are the sweetest and funniest girl, Is that true?” He asks with a raised eyebrow.
She nods her head with a shy smile starting to grow on her face. Your worry starts to fade at the sight in front of you. Bob's smile widens at the sight of hers “Thats good, glad your mommy isn’t a liar” He teases, looking up to shoot you a playful wink. “No, your mommy is the best huh?” He asks, turning his attention back to your daughter.
She steps out fully from behind your leg. “Yes, she's the best mommy” She says adamantly, her confidence starting to grow the more she talks to Bob.
“That she is! But enough about her, tell me about you. What’s your name?” Bob asks with a tilt of his head.
She furrows her brow confused “Didn’t momma tell you?” She asks, looking up at you. You just give an exaggerated shrug, not sure where this is going.
Bob chuckles. “Well she did but I want to hear it from you, if that ok”
“Oh! Well I’m Grace, but friends can call me Gracie and Momma calls me Bug! But only she can call me that!” Grace rushes out proudly. Your smile grows the more she breaks out of her shell and shows more of her talkative self.
“Well Grace, That’s a very nice name! I’m Robert but you can call me Bob. Though your mommy calls me Bobby, which you can also call me if you would like. ” Bob explains, holding out his hand for her to shake.
“Do friends call you Bob like how friends call me Gracie?” Grace asked curiously.
“Yes Ma’am, I guess that name is mainly for friends yeah.” Bob chuckled, still holding out his hand for Grace to shake.
“Well, I’m gonna call you Bob!” Grace says, grabbing Bob’s hand as tight as her little hands can and giving multiple shakes. “And I’ll leave the name Bobby to momma, that name is special and only for her!”
Bob looks up at you with a dopey grin on his face “yeah that name is special for her.” Then he turns back to Grace. “Well Grace, it’s very nice to properly meet you!”
Grace giggles. “No silly! You can call me Gracie! We are friends now!” She says beaming at him.
“Oh!” Bob is stunned not expecting her to warm up to him so easily and he is honestly ecstatic about it. “Well then, my apologies Gracie.”
“It’s ok Bob! Oooo!! Do you want to come see my room?!” Gracie runs off in the direction of her room. Bob gets up and gives you a look, wordlessly asking for permission.
When you nod he smiles and bounds off after her with your trailing behind your heart practically mush seeing the two most important people in your life getting along.

content: fluff, comedy, reader doesn't play about bob lol, minor oc side characters
author's note: already responded to the original request but it was for bob and prompts 8, 30, and 45 for my august prompt event! requested by @s0mniumdustwila! i hope you like it :)
It’s fun, at first, hiding that you and Bob are dating. You had both agreed to keep it a secret for a few months to get to know each other as partners before any of the teasing started. You find it almost exciting, existing in secret kisses and stolen moments in empty corridors and dark corners of the Watchtower where the security cameras’ blind spots are. It’s like you’ve created a world just for the two of you.
It seems, though, that the team is getting suspicious. You see it in Ava’s scrutinizing gaze when you laugh a little too much at one of Bob’s bad jokes and in how John eyes flicker between you and Bob, the latter’s ears turn bright red as he watches you spar with Bucky. You and Bob compare notes on whatever long-winded speech Alexei’s decided to give either one of you on the importances of seizing the opportunity and how partners are like fish — needing to be caught early before all the other fishermen draw them in (or something like that).
It’s fun when Yelena suggests a night at some dive bar in the Lower East Side and the New Avengers squeeze into the smallest booth they can and arrange themselves so you’re sitting squished between Bob and the exposed brick wall. Your leg brushes against his while his shoulder knocks against yours and he mumbles an apology. You slide your hand into his, letting your intertwined fingers rest on your thigh beneath the table. The proximity is comforting, yet it still flusters you sometimes; you can feel a familiar warmth pooling in your chest.
It’s fun when you all fall into an easy back-and-forth, full of sharp but ultimately harmless jokes and impassioned defenses of whatever topic’s at hand. You lost track of Bob and Bucky’s argue on whether Inception or Interstellar is Christopher Nolan’s best film, too focused on the way Bob grows more intense, his voice growing more assertive and steady as the debate continues. “Interstellar is a spiritual experience,” Bucky says.
Bob replies, “I’m not saying it’s a bad movie but it showcases just a fraction of what Nolan can do as a director—”
Someone kicks you in the shin and you wince, eyes darting across the table to glare at the offending party. Yelena just stares back you, half-amused and half-disgusted. Beside her, Ava just looks disgusted at what you can only assume is an obviously enamoured expression on your face.
When Bob feels you jump, he turns. “Are you okay?” His voice is laced with worry and you nod quickly, offering a warm smile that really doesn’t help your case with Yelena and Ava.
It’s a few more minutes before someone suggests sending one or two people up to order food and drinks. Despite how inefficient it is for you and Bob to get out of the booth — having to practically crawl over John to do so — the table votes for the two of you.
As you walk towards the bartop, Bob leans closer so you can hear him over the din of the room. “They’re not that subtle, are they?”
You snort, “Not at all.”
“I can’t believe they haven’t figured it out.”
“Me neither.”
It’s fun until you get to the counter, and one of the bartenders approaches almost suspiciously fast, silky ponytail swishing behind her. She flashes a bright smile that’s supposed to be for both of you but is clearly geared at your boyfriend. “Hi!” she chirps. “What can I get you?”
You rattle off the order, the bartender barely looks in your direction as she tilts closer to Bob, motioning to his t-shirt. “I love Radiohead, too! What’s your favorite album?”
Your eye twitches and you clear your throat. “Did you get the order?”
She finally glances towards you and repeats your order back perfectly, the words saturated in a kind of smugness that tells you how intentional all this is. You clench your teeth as her head immediately whips back towards Bob, waiting for an answer to her (stupid) question. She doesn’t get one because you’re stomping back to the table, Bob following close behind. When you settle back into your seats, Bob nudges you and asks for the second time tonight: “Are you okay?”
“Fine,” you say. You glance over at Yelena and Ava, who are both too busy arguing with Alexei to pay attention to your conversation with Bob. When you’re sure they’re not listening, you whisper to him, “She was definitely flirting with you.”
“No, I’m sure it’s just, like, to get a good tip or something.”
You roll your eyes. “She was definitely into you.”
Bob frowns, shaking his head. His soft, brown hair falls across his forehead and you resist the urge to push it back. “Even if that was true, I’m not interested. I’m with you, remember?” His slides his hand into your under the table again, thumb rubbing the back of your hand in circles.
Thankfully, another bartender brings over your tray of food and drinks and you think this whole blip in the evening is over but the new bartender hands Bob a napkin. He says, “Missy told me to give this to you.” He jerks his head back and all of you look to see Missy, who watches your boyfriend expectantly.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” you grumble.
Bucky peers over, asking, “Everything okay?” as John and Alexei whoop, “Looks like Bob’s got an admirer!”
Bob, to his credit, looks a bit distressed as he turns his attention back to you. You hands work faster than your brain as you snatch the napkin from his hands and shove it into your glass of water. The rest of your teammates are silent as the ink runs and the paper sinks, shrinking into a soaked, distorted pulp.
The silence stretches out. Then, Yelena raises and eyebrow and asks you, “What was that?”
The gears in your head are rotating rapidly as you try to form a coherent thought that would make sense. Instead, you stammer, “Um… I… uh… I’m just… checking it for poison.”
Ava deadpans, “Poison?”
Heat creeps up your neck. “Yeah, poison. Who knows what that ink was made of.”
John snorts and Alexei coughs — a poor attempt at concealing his growing laughter. Bucky, who is fighting a smirk of his own, says, “Okay, guys, I think we should just tell them.”
“Tell us what?” Bob asks.
“Wait,” Yelena says. She’s still staring at you. “I want them to admit it.”
Your eyes narrow. “Admit what?”
Yelena simply tilts her head and it dawns on you. You let your head hit the booth cushion behind you, drawing in deep breath before saying, “You all know that we’re together.”
“Knew,” Yelena corrects. “We all knew.”
Ava pipes in, “Since the first week or so.”
Bob’s eyes widen. “What? How?”
Yelena frowns at him, offense written across her features. “Oh, please, you have spies and super soldiers here. The bigger shock would be if we didn’t know.”
Before you can say something else, a new voice chimes in, “I want to say sorry.” The bartender — Missy — stands at your table, setting down a new glass of water and two pints of beer in front of you and Bob.
At your questioning stare, Yelena adds, “Oh, right, we paid Missy to hit on Bob.”
Your mouth falls open as Missy points at the beers. “They’re on the house.”

You and Bob have been dating for a few months now and everything was perfect. Days passed in a soft blur and were spent with bookstore dates, lots of cuddles, late night talks and sneaking away from the tower to spend some time alone with you at your apartment. Throughout those months you started calling Bob all the cute pet names that you could think of.
The first time it happened; Bob wasn’t sure if you really meant him when you said “sweetheart”, but when you looked at him with that sweet smile his eyes softened. And god he loved it so much whenever you call him any of those cute pet names. Everytime his eyes would soften and a soft smile would appear on his face. Bob was so used to you calling him babe, baby, love, sweetheart or even handsome by now that he didn’t even liked hearing you say his name.
It was a day like any other, after you cuddled in bed and had breakfast Bob made himself comfortable on your couch to read a book. Normally you would have joined him by now, but you noticed that your fridge is almost empty and that you needed to go shopping.
“Hey, Bob I’m gonna go get a few things from the grocery shop, you can stay here if you want. It won’t take me too long.” You said softly but Bob froze mid-page and looked at you like you just said something completely different.
“What?” You asked confused and Bob closed his book and placed it at the table.
“Oh, umm nothing it’s just…. well, you just called me Bob.” Bob said a bit nervous.
“Well, that’s your name.” You said with a slight chuckle, but Bob didn’t chuckle. Bob stood up from the couch and slowly made a step closer to you. His hand slowly found yours and you intertwined it with his.
“Is everything okay? Are you upset? Did I do something?” Bob rambled and you quickly shook your head and gave his hand a gentle squeeze.
“No, hey everything’s okay, babe” You said but Bob was already overthinking it.
Did he do something to upset you?
Are you mad at him?
What if you’re annoyed at him?
So, Bob decided that he needed to make it better again, whatever it is that happened. (Even though there was nothing that was wrong.)
Bob went shopping with you, he made sure to get things for you that he knows that you like. Whether it was your favorite tea, your favorite chocolate, some other snacks or a candle with a scent that you like. Then when you both got back to your apartment, Bob immediately made you tea and then helped you with putting everything that you brought away. Then he insisted that he would prepare a bath for you, so that you could relax a bit while he prepared some things for a movie night. You weren’t really sure why he was spoiling you so much, but you thought that it was cute. After a while you came out of the bathroom, wearing one of his sweaters that he gave you to wear after the bath because he knows how much you love it. As you walked into the living room you saw that he had set up some snacks, blankets and even candles. Bob was in the middle of carrying some drinks to the couch when he spotted you, he immediately gave you a soft smile, when he saw how relaxed you were now.
“You could relax a bit?” Bob asked and you nodded.
“Yeah, thanks to you baby.” You said and Bob immediately smiled.
“Yeah, that’s good, that’s good.” Bob said a bit nervous but with a smile. You sat down on the couch and admired everything that he did.
“You didn’t have to do all of this.” You said softly and Bob sat down next to you.
“I know but I wanted to, you deserve it.” Your smile softened and you reached for Bob’s hand.
“Thank you love.”
“Anytime.” Bob whispered and began to smile more. As the first scene of the movie started to play, you made yourself comfortable in his arms. Bob held you close and closed his eyes for a moment, enjoying how close you’re and how safe he finally feels while holding you, because there were times when he didn’t feel so comfortable holding you, because he was too scared to hurt you. But Bob is not afraid anymore, he finally trusts himself to not hurt you and that makes him want to hold you even more.
After the movie ended you cuddled for a while and just enjoyed being with each other.
“Everything’s okay with us, right?” Bob suddenly asked and you frowned, confused. You looked up at him searching his face, worried.
“Yes, of course everything’s okay, more than okay. Why do you ask honey?” You ask worried and sat up, so that you could see his face better and you reached for his hand.
“It’s stupid, let’s just forget it.” Bob mumbled but you shook your head.
“Hey, no nothing is stupid if it makes you feel like something is wrong.” You said softly and gave his hand a gentle squeeze, silently telling him that he can tell you anything. Bob closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath, then he looked at you again.
“It’s just…..earlier before we went shopping you called me Bob and yeah I know that it’s my name but I really love it when you call me those umm other names.” Bob confessed and started to blush, but you couldn’t hide your smile.
“Yeah? You like it when I call you baby, honey, sweetheart, babe or love?” You said while looking at him with a smile.
“Especially that one.” Bob mumbled and you leant closer to gently place a kiss on his cheek.
“My love.” You whispered into his ear and gave him another soft kiss.
“It just makes me feel really loved, you know? And earlier it just made me feel like you’re disappointed or something and Bob is also just how everyone calls me and well you’re someone special. Sorry, if this sounds weird.” Bob said and with every word your gaze softened more.
“No, hey it’s not weird. I know exactly what you mean love.”
“Yeah, really?” Bob asked and you nodded.
“Yeah.” You said with a smile and Bob let out a sigh.
“Okay, I’m so glad I didn’t make it weird.” Bob said with a slight chuckle and you gave him a soft smile. Then Bob leant closer, gently placed his hand on your cheek and looked into your eyes.
“Can I?” He whispered and you nodded. You leant closer and meet him halfway, his lips were soft and the kiss started slowly like usually. But then the pace got faster and the kiss got more passionate. You let out a satisfied sigh, which made Bob deepen the kiss.
“I love you so much, angel.” Bob whispered in between kissing you. Which made the butterflies grow in your stomach, because this was the first time that Bob called you a pet name. And you loved it, so much. It made you want to kiss him even more.
“Love you too, honey.” You whispered, pulling him closer again.

I had a dream about marrying Lewis and now I've got a lot of ideas for stories.
➽──────────────❥
Growing up, Bob was taught to never blame someone for something they cannot control. Which meant he couldn't blame you for not noticing that he was flirting with you, how could he? You couldn't read his mind and he guessed just sharing information he finds interesting wasn't really flirting.
Which is how Bob got to where he was now, with all the men on the team at his house planning. Natasha was going to be there, but she was tasked with keeping you busy. "Where is Phoenix?" Jake asked, apparently they didn't know about her job for the night.
"Keeping Mystic company," Bob told them.
"Why?" Mickey was too busy petting Bob's dog to even look up as he asked his question.
"She'll get bored and ask to come over to waste time before bed otherwise," Bob shrugged.
Jake slowly blinked at Bob before looking at Bradley, both men a little baffled. "And you're sure she doesn't like you back?" Bradley questioned gently.
"How would that even correlate?"
"For someone so smart, you're so dumb," Jake rolled his eyes. "You literally let her come over whenever she wants, and she still doesn't know you like her?"
"Can we get back on track? We can talk about this later," Javy cut in, having gotten the message from Natasha that you started to wonder if Bob still had your missing jacket and if he'd let you come over to look for it. "I think we're running out of time," he added as he sent Natasha a message back.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
The plan was simple, Bob was going to just ask you to go out with him. It shouldn't be too hard, you're nice enough to not be nasty if you didn't want to go out. But when Bob got there, he froze because you were in your swimsuit. "Hi, Bob," you smiled at him as you set down your bag, maybe it was a bad idea to have Bob confess at the beach.
"Hi, you look gorgeous," Bob breathed out, his eyes raking over every part of your skin that was exposed.
You smiled at Bob, your eyes crinkling at the edges. "Awe, thank you!" You hugged Bob, pulling him down so you didn't have to go up onto your tiptoes.
Bob awkwardly hovered his hands over your waist for a millisecond before finally setting them down against your skin. "Yeah, you're welcome," he muttered, letting you go when you pulled away.
"You look great too," you winked, turning towards where Natasha was calling you to play dogfight football with them.
Mickey walked up with Jake not far behind, both under the guise of getting a drink of water before the game started. "Did you do it?" Mickey asked.
"Yeah, are you going to go have hot, scandalous sex with Mystic in the bathroom?" Jake teased, a smirk on his face. Mickey smacked Jake's arm, hissing at the blond to stop.
"No," Bob mumbled, ashamed of himself.
"What? Why not?" Mickey didn't let Jake speak again.
"Because I saw her in her swimsuit and panicked," Bob admitted. Both Mickey and Jake sighed, leaving Bob alone to go sneakily relay the information to the others.
"Bob!" your voice broke Bob out of his self pity party. "Come play with us!"
As much as Bob would like to continue to wallow in self pity, he was walking over to where you were standing. "Who's team am I on?" Bob found himself asking.
"Mine," Bradley told him, winking when Bob realized that meant you and him were on different teams.
"Try and grab her, maybe the distance will make her understand," Jake whispered to Bob as he walked past the blond.
Bob had kept looking for his opportunity the entire game, only to finally find it at the end. You had the ball and were running and Bob saw the perfect angle for him to run and tackle you. Which he did, causing him to fall on you and putting you two into a position. "Hi," you smiled up at Bob, your hands pressed to his chest.
"Hi," Bob answered before quickly realizing the position you two were in and jumped up. "Sorry," he helped you up.
"It's ok, accidents happen," you smiled at him, brushing sand off his shirt.
"You two ok?" Bradley asked as he made it over.
"Yeah, I think so," you answered, looking towards Bob.
"Yeah, I'm good," Bob assured the others.
Pete made it over at that moment, his brows furrowed. "Are you sure? You both took quite the tumble."
You nodded before anyone else could say anything. "Yeah, we're perfectly fine. But I am going to go for a swim," you excused yourself and headed towards the water.
Jake closed in on the three left standing there with the others not far behind. "So, did you confess? Did she?" Jake asked.
"Nope," Bob was looking out to where you were dunking under a wave as it washed over you. The others sighed, even Pete was in on it now, before walking away. There was no point for Bob to keep trying today, he's failed twice already.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
Bob was worried, Mickey had said that maybe the adrenaline from Go Karting will finally make you realize what Bob has been trying to do. Which is how everyone ended up at a Go Kart place not far from The Hard Deck and ready for it. You were in a pair of jean shorts, a tank top that stopped right above your waistband, and a cute little jean jacket. Though it was neither of those that made Bob freeze when he saw you, it was the belt buckle from when you did barrel racing and won mixed with your old boots. Bob knew you had grown up in the country, everyone did with how proud of your barrel racing, but he wasn't prepared for how well you fit younger Bob's version of the perfect woman.
Natasha and you were laughing, already holding the helmets provided for you all to wear. Bob felt his heart kick up as he walked closer, tuning out whatever advice Jake was trying to give him. "Hey you two," you greeted the two with a smile.
Jake walked over to where he could lean against the same railing you were. "What were you two talking about?" Jake asked, winking at you when you looked towards him.
"Mystic was just telling me about how she's going to wipe the floor with us," Natasha told the two.
"No way," Jake looked towards you and you rolled your eyes.
"I'll bet you on it," you offered, reaching into your back pocket to pull out the single bill you just had floating. "I have 20 dollars on me."
Jake reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet, taking a 20 out and handing it to you. "Alright, I'll take that bet."
You smiled as you handed the money to Bob, the designated money holder for any bet between you and Jake. "You're going to regret this," you mused. "But I'm headed to get a snack before the others get here," you announced. "Wanna come with?" you asked Bob, stopping by his side when you got there.
"Yeah," Bob nodded, following you after you looped your arm with his. You and Bob were talking about something, your heads slowly leaning closer to each other.
You laughed, Bob watching you softly while also keeping you from running into anything or anyone. "Do you think they know how much like a couple they look?" Jake asked Natasha.
Natasha laughed, shaking her head. "Nope, you know Mystic is in love with him, right?"
Jake whipped his head towards Natasha, his eyes wide. "No. What? Bob says he's not sure if she is in love with him."
"That's because Bob's scared to lose her, why do you think Mystic hasn't said anything either?"
Jake looked back to where you were leaning back against Bob's chest with his arms wrapped around your waist while you two waited for your snack. "They stand like that and don't realize?"
"They're scared, I don't think we can blame them," Natasha said again, walking off to go greet Bradley was he got checked in.
"Your food is ready," Bob mumbled to you and you looked up from your phone.
You pulled away from Bob to get your food and both of you immediately missed the feeling of the other. You walked back holding the cheese covered fries and held them out a little towards Bob. "Do you want some?" you asked.
"Sure, thanks," Bob took exactly three before calling it quits, he knew you loved your cheese fries.
"Ooo, those look good," Mickey said as you walked up. "Can I have one?"
"No, go get your own," you shook your head. "These are mine."
"I watched Bob pay for those," Jake pointed out.
"So, he bought them for me. Therefore, they're mine," you narrowed your eyes at him and pulled the fries closer to your chest as you took another bite.
Jake, knowing you were just joking and not actually upset over this conversation, smirked at you. "Did you thank Bob?"
"Of course I did, I'm not you," you shot back fast.
"Properly."
"What the actual fuck are you on about?" you mumbled, shoving the rest of your fries into your mouth.
"Did you give-"
"Are you all ready?" Natasha cut Jake off and you looked away from the blond to Natasha.
"I am, I've got something to prove to Bagman here," you tossed the empty paper basket into the trash can.
"We're doing the two per car first," Bradley announced. "The singles are still being used," he added before anyone could question why.
"I call Bob!" you announced, grabbing Bob's arm before anyone else could try to take him. Not that they would, this was a huge ploy to give you and Bob time alone so he could tell you he loved you.
Bob and you walked off to the line for the two seater karts, everyone not far behind. "Hey, Mystic?" Bob asked, thinking he was ready to ask you.
"Yeah?" you replied, turning your head to look at him.
Bob's small amount of confidence melted away and he looked away for a moment. "I don't know how much of a help I'll be," he said instead.
You gave him a small nudge with your shoulder. "I'll drive the kart, you just need to keep an eye out for the others," you reassured him. Bob nodded, mad at himself for chickening out once again.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
You were 20 dollars richer and were rubbing it into Jake's face as you left. "Did you do it?" Natasha slowed her pace a little to match Bob's.
Bob sighed, looking at you as you lightly punched Jake's arm over something he said. "No, I chickened out," Bob admitted.
"We're setting you up perfectly and you're still missing it?" Bradley ended up on the other side of Bob.
"Bob!" you called over to him as you walked away from Jake. "I was planning on getting a ride home with Jake, but he's being mean. Do you think you could take me home?" you had a small tilt to your head as you asked.
"Yeah, I'll take you home," he assured you.
"Thank you!" you gave him a hug before turning around and walking off to his truck.
"This is the perfect time," Bradley sing-songed as he broke off from Bob and Natasha for his truck.
"Ask her out," Natasha said, turning to walk to her car.
"Are you ready to go?" Bob asked you as he reached his truck. You were leaning against the back of his truck bed, your ankles crossed as you waited.
"Yeah, I'm beat," you told him before rasing your voice so Jake could hear you. "Beating Bagman's ass is tiring!"
"Fuck off!" Jake called over, the two of you laughing as you both got into your respective trucks.
The entire ride you and Bob sat in mostly silence, the only sounds coming from the radio. Bob would have asked you out, he tried when you two first got in the truck but he just looked at you before mumbling a small forget it and focusing on the road. But he didn't want to make you uncomfortable if you didn't like him too, especially since you were relying on him to get you home safely.
Your apartment building was lit up when Bob pulled up. "Thank you," you told Bob as he parked next to your car.
Bob looked over at you, he could do it now. He took a deep breath before speaking. "Of course, hey, can I tell you something?" Bob asked.
You looked at Bob, your eyes bright. "Always," you nodded.
Bob blinked, his confidence dying as you smiled at him softly. "Nevermind, I forgot," he looked away.
"Oh, ok," you nodded softly before getting out his truck. Bob watched as you rounded the front until you were at his window. Bob rolled the window down so you two could talk. "Do you want to come with me to this movie tomorrow? I was going to go with Natasha but she had to cancel on me."
"Yeah, I'll go," Bob nodded softly and you pushed up on your tiptoes to press a kiss to Bob's cheek.
"I'll text you the time and everything, I already bought the tickets," you assured him.
"Ok, I'll see you tomorrow," Bob said before wishing you a good night. You returned the words before walking away and towards your apartment doors. Bob watched you the whole time, waiting until he saw the lights in your apartment turn on before turning his truck on and leaving.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
Bob was sure you knew something was up with him as you two stood in line for concessions at the movie theater. You had been giving him looks the entire time, but Bob didn't know if he had it in him to tell you his feelings. "This is a rom-com, by the way," you told him.
"I noticed," Bob nodded and you gave him a small nudge.
"I was just warning you," you smiled at him as you two walked up to order your concessions.
The entire movie was a blur to Bob, he spent more time imagining it was you and him on the screen instead of focusing on what the story was. You didn't notice, not with the way you were intensely watching the screen the whole time. Bob liked the way you watched movies, you never once hid your facial expressions over whatever decision the characters were making.
The movie came to an end and you looked towards Bob, your nose scrunched. "Ok, that was kinda dumb," you muttered.
Bob laughed softly as you two stood to leave. "We didn't have to stay the whole time," Bob told you.
"Yeah, but I was hoping it would have gotten better," you defended as you two walked out. You got out of the theater and you saw the bathroom. "I'm going to go to the bathroom, can you hold my things?" you asked him.
"Yeah, give 'em here," he took your purse and drink, having already been holding the popcorn bucket you two were sharing.
Bob was standing off to the side as he waited, watching the hall since both his hands were full and he couldn't look at his phone. Bob thought about how he'd ask you out when you got back, thinking of all the ways he could say it. "I'm sorry, but I've got a boyfriend," Bob heard your voice and looked over to where you were talking to a man.
"He don't gotta know," the man stepped closer and Bob started walking closer to the two of you.
"I'm not interested," you told him, seeing Bob walking over and quickly stepping closer to him.
The man grabbed your arm and Bob finally made it to you. "Let her go," Bob spoke, watching as the man did so and you practically stumbled into Bob. You took your stuff back quickly along with the mostly empty popcorn bucket, giving Bob one of his hands back.
"Was just trying to be friendly," the man said.
"It didn't look so friendly," Bob shot back, letting you step into his hold. "Are you going to say sorry to my girl?"
You looked up at Bob for a moment before looking over to the man, your eyes wide and a little brimmed with tears. "Geez, I'm sorry, man."
"That wasn't apologizing to her," Bob told him.
"Bob, it's ok," you muttered.
"Yeah, listen to your bitch," the man laughed.
"Apologize to her," Bob's voice went sharp and you froze for a moment. You had never heard Bob so stern before and it had your mind racing to places it probably shouldn't about a friend.
The man looked between you two, seeing something in Bob's expression that you clearly missed. "I'm sorry," the man told you before rushing off.
Bob led you out of the movie theater, keeping you in his arms. You were going to get more popcorn, but you were just glad to be away from where the man could find you again. "Thank you," you muttered as you two reached Bob's truck.
Bob took the things from your hands and placed them in the truck before giving you a proper hug. You pressed even closer to Bob, grabbing handfuls of the back of Bob's shirt. "Are you ok?" Bob asked against the top of your head softly.
You thought about it for a moment, before gently nodding. "I am, thanks to you."
"Are you sure?" Bob let you cling to him as long as you needed.
"Yeah," you paused for a moment before speaking again. "Can we I stay with you tonight?"
Bob knew it was probably a bad idea, you both had work the next day and he didn't know how he was going to explain why you were wearing his clothes in the morning. "Yeah, you can," he assured you. You pulled away from Bob and looked towards his truck. "Are you ready to go?"
You nodded, not saying anything as you climbed into his truck. You were clearly still shaken over what happened. Bob decided that asking you out could wait some more, there was no reason to put more unnecessary stress on you.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
Bob thought he lost his chance as he watched your plane fall, a bird strike causing you to have to eject. Everyone was worried about you, waiting in NMCSD's waiting room. You were in back in a room and they were waiting until they could see you. "Are you here for Lieutenant l/n?" one of the nurses asked.
Everyone stood up and nodded. "We are, is she ok?" Pete asked, worried because none of them had been able to see you before you were rushed to the hospital.
"She is, a little battered," he told them. "We're only allowing family back right now, are any of you family?"
It seemed everyone but Bob had the same idea. "He's her fiancé," Pete lied, pointing at Bob.
"You are?" the nurse asked.
"Yeah, I am," Bob nodded.
"Ok, I'll take you back there. Let's go," the nurse led Bob back to your room where you were laid in a bed.
You were attached to an IV and the heart monitor, but that was it. "Hi," Bob said, the nurse leaving you two alone.
"Hi, where's the others?" you asked, smiled as Bob pulled up a chair next to your hospital bed.
Bob gave you a sheepish smile before answering. "They're out in the waiting room. They said they're only letting family back here."
"How are you back here then?"
"They lied and said I was your fiancé," Bob whispered, trying to make sure none of the nurses heard him.
"Oh," you blinked for a moment. "What's my ring look like?" you asked, holding out your left hand.
Bob laughed softly, taking your hand in his. "What do you want it to look like?"
You thought about it for a moment. "One big diamond on a plain band," you finally decided.
"Yeah? Nothing special to make it the best ring you'll ever own?"
"If I'm marrying you, it doesn't need anything special to be the best ring," you told him.
Bob smiled at you, finally ready to tell you his feelings after that. "I like-" Bob was cut off by the others being let into your room. You softly asked Bob what he meant, but he told that he'd tell you later. He knew you needed to quell the worries of the others, plus, he didn't want to tell you while the others were in the same room.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
You weren't sure what had been going on with Bob recently, but you wanted to know. Which is why you were outside his apartment waiting for him to answer the door. Bob was in his sweatpants, the ones he wore as pajamas, as the door opened. "Uh, Mystic? What are you doing here?" Bob questioned, confusion written on his face.
"Can I come in?" you asked instead of answering.
Bob nodded, stepping aside to let you in. "Is something wrong?"
"I don't know, why don't you tell me?"
"What do you mean?" Bob watched as you sat down on his couch, your eyebrow raised.
"You've been off, jumpy even," you crossed your arms as Bob sat down with you.
There was a moment of silence and you were waiting for Bob to answer you. Bob had the perfect moment to confess, but he chickened out at the last moment again. "Nothing's wrong," he told you, looking away from you.
"That, that right there!" you gestured to him as you spoke. "You've been brushing off a lot of what you were going to say while looking away from me. Did I do something?"
"No!" Bob was quick to assure you, whipping his head towards you. "I just," Bob hesitated again, his eyes shooting to your lips when you flicked your tongue across them to wet them.
You raised an eyebrow again, but you finally understood what was happening. "Bob?"
"Yeah?" Bob watched as your lips quirked up into a smile.
"Have you been trying to ask me out?"
Bob paused, it felt like a dream that you realized what he's been trying to do. "Yes, I have," he admitted, his shoulders relaxing.
You laughed, gently shaking your head and Bob's heart stopped for a moment. "Bob, do you want to go out with me?" you finally asked.
"Yes," Bob felt relief when he realized you weren't laughing at him.
Bob watched as you scooted closer, wrapping your arms around him in a hug. "You could have just asked me, I would have said yes at any point," you assured him.
"I was nervous that you didn't like me like that," he admitted.
"I don't just hang out with anyone until bed time, Bob," you deadpanned as you pulled away to give him a flat look. "Nor do I spend my time wrapped up in just a friend's arms."
"I was going to at the hospital, but the others kind of cut me off," he told you.
"I'm strangling each and every one of them, will you be my alibi?"
Bob laughed, pulling you even closer to him. "Only if you let me kiss you."
You put on a show of thinking about it and Bob watched you with a smile. "I guess that's a fair trade," you mused, leaning in to close the gap. Bob's lips were soft and vaguely tasted of vanilla as you kissed him.
You both pulled away to breathe, but Bob gently chased your lips until you gave him another kiss. "Do you want to stay the night? Nothing has to happen," Bob asked, making sure you knew he just wanted to spend time with you.
"Yeah, I do," you nodded. "Is it bad I came over with a bag in my car just incase?"
Bob laughed, pulling you up with him. "No, it's a little hopeful," Bob assured you.
"Good, I'll grab it in the morning," you smiled.
"What about pajamas?" Bob asked.
"I'll steal your clothes," you shrugged.
"Yeah? You wanna wear my clothes?" Bob pulled you against him, slanting his lips over yours.
"Do you like that thought?" you teased, breathless from the kiss.
"Keep talking like that and something may happen," he muttered, kissing you again.
You hummed against his lips, a smile breaking the kiss. "You keep kissing me like you want something to happen," you told him. "You should kiss me again."
Bob's smile was wide for a moment before leaning in once again, leading you to his bedroom without breaking the kiss. You knew something was going to happen when you agreed to stay, you wanted this to happen and you couldn't be more excited.

synopsis: You woke up married to a man you didn't know. Now that you know him, you don't want to get divorced
tw: fem!reader, one use of y/n, there's a fair bit of swearing, it's mentioned that reader has a cat, they both fall in love exceptionally fast, my really lazy attempt at writing a fight scene that doesn't last long, it alludes to smut but there's none actually written, barely edited.

I'm back on my Joaquín shit I guess. Is there even still an audience for his fics?? I hope so.

You woke up very confused, the sheets weren't yours, your walls weren't white, and you definitely did not have a breathing pillow. Your pillow wasn't a pillow at all, you noticed, it was a man. A handsome man, but a stranger too. You gently untangled yourself from the man before sitting up, thankful you at least had a shirt on. A paper on the desk caught you attention and you got out of the bed before walking over to it.
Certificate of Marriage
This is to verify that
Y/n L/n and Joaquín Torres
were united in marriage
at Get It Done Marriage House
on the 30th day of July in the year 20XX
"No, no, no, no, shit," you muttered to yourself, reading the rest of the paper. You were married to this stranger?
You looked back over at the bed to see him waking up, which caused you to freeze and stare at him. "Uh, hi," he mumbled, clearly just as confused as you are.
"Are you Joaquín Torres?" you asked him.
At least he didn't seem freaked out over you knowing his name. "Yeah, why?" You said nothing as you silently walked over and handed him the paper you were holding. "Oh," he sighed and you nodded, messing with the hem of the shirt you were wearing. And shit, you were wearing his shirt and naked underneath.
You waited a few more seconds before filling the silence. "I have a wedding I have to go to in a few weeks out of town, but in about a month we can get to a lawyer and get divorced," you offered.
Joaquín nodded slowly. "Ok, that works for me," he assured you. The two of you moved around the room and got dressed again, you bashfully handed over his shirt again. That was the moment the two of you noticed the rings, each of you having one simple gold band on your ring finger.
"You can keep the certificate if you'd like," you told him, typing your number into his phone.
You didn't see it, but there was something that flashed across Joaquín's face. "Sure, you got someone you don't want to see it?"
"Just a cat," you joked. "But no, I'll just lose it," you admitted. You finally looked up from his phone, a small smile on your face. "I guess we'll be in touch," you offered before leaving.

Callie, the bride, was chatting away about how Matt, her soon to be husband, agreed to have three kids with her. You zoned out after a little, it wasn't that you were being mean, you were just the only one here that was single. Well, technically you're married, but they don't know that.
You mumbled an excuse to the bathroom and stood, leaving them to take a breather and actually use the bathroom. You were washing your hands when your phone went off, you decided to check it before you left.
Joaquín: Hey, just wanted to check on you
Mrs. Torres: I'm good, just hiding in the bathroom of a cafe as friends talk about their plans for children
Joaquín: Not your kind of conversation?
Mrs. Torres: More like I don't need to be asked when I'm going to find someone to settle down with
Joaquín: You didn't tell them you're married?
Mrs. Torres: No, did you tell yours?
Joaquín: Not yet, maybe later
Mrs. Torres: Ah, maybe I'll tell mine when you tell yours. If you make it quick I can tell them at lunch
You were pulled out of the messages by Morgan walking into the bathroom. "Girl, are you ok?"
"Yeah," you nodded. "Why?"
"You've been gone for a minute and we got worried," she informed you.
"Sorry, just got sidetracked," you mumbled.
Morgan led you out of the bathroom, her smile kind. "The others had to go, but I'm free if you'd like to go to lunch or something."
You and Morgan were best friends and you have been since you were in middle school. "Sure," you looped your arm through hers as you two left the cafe.
"Is that a ring?"
"Oh, uh," you blinked at Morgan for a second.
"Is that where you disappeared to the night before we left DC? Did you go get married to a stranger?"
"Maybe…" you muttered.
Morgan laughed as you two kept walking. "Are you going to stay married?"
"We said we'll talk about it in a month, he's out in DC and I'm now here."
"Is he at least nice?"
Your phone went off again, you quickly checked the message just to make sure it wasn't one of the others saying they left something. "Yeah, he is," you nodded, showing her the message where he sent you 30 dollars to pay for your lunch.
"Wow," she nodded. "I think drunk you stole one of the last good men," she laughed as you joined her, sending a quick thank you and assuring Joaquín he didn't have to send you money.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
Joaquín had started sending you messages every day, starting with good mornings to telling you about his days to good nights. And as much as you loved Callie and your friends, it made the month in Florida and with constant asks if you were single bearable.
You realized, maybe at the wrong time considering it was during the rehearsal dinner, that you were falling for Joaquín. Which was crazy considering you had that one actual in person interaction that you remember and a whole bunch of texts.
You were freshly showered when you decided to call Joaquín, bored out of your mind in your hotel room. "Hey," Joaquín answered almost right away.
"Hi," you smiled as you slid farther down the bed to get comfortable.
"Is everything ok?"
"Yeah," you assured him. "Just in my hotel room and bored," you told him.
"Want to tell me about your day then?"
"Sure," you muttered before going on about your day. Joaquín listened and even asked questions at the right time. It was easy to love Joaquín you realized as you both talked, feeling supported and loved even over the phone.
"Sounds like you're having fun," Joaquín's smile was evident in his voice.
"Would be more fun if you were here," you found yourself saying before you even thought it through.
Joaquín's laugh floated through the speaker and you wanted the earth to swallow you whole. "Would it, Mrs. Torres?" he teased.
"Shut it," you muttered. "And I don't ever remember changing my last name."
"Details, details. You're still my wife," he was just teasing you but there was something about hearing Joaquín call you his wife that made you smile.
"Ok then, husband, how was your day?" you asked, and you couldn't see him but his smile went soft hearing you call him your husband.
Joaquín told you about his day and you listened and asked questions at the right time. It was just as easy for Joaquín to love you as it is for you to love him. Both of you thinking you're crazy for falling for someone you barely known and have barely known. Your yawn cut through the call and Joaquín softly smiled at the sound. "We can talk more tomorrow, cariño," Joaquín told you. "Good night, Mrs. Torres."
"Good night, Mr. Torres," you responded before you hung up.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
The wedding was very pretty and you teared up listening to Callie and Matt say their vows. You sent Joaquín a message once the ceremony was over just do he'd know. "How's the husband?" Callie was suddenly next to you.
"How do you know about that?" you asked her, your heart tracing over getting scared.
"Morgan, she let it slip earlier," Callie waved off your question. "How is he though?"
"No clue, he hasn't answered me today," you informed her.
"How rude," Callie joked, nudging your side. "Come on, you're dancing with me," she pulled you to the dance floor before you could get away from her.
You were having fun with Callie when the first scream sounded out, causing everyone to pause and look over. There was a group of men with guns in the tent with you all, a stark contrast to the the pretty pastels of Callie's weeding.
There was more shouting as they started moving around, but you took a deep breath when you saw Captain America run in. Everyone was shuffling around trying to stay out of the way as Captain America and Falcon fought the men. "Holy shit," you muttered.
"What? Are you ok?" Callie asked, she was mostly behind you since Matt was on the other side of where the fighting was happening.
"I just realized I married the Falcon," you told her, your eyes on Joaquín.
"Seriously?" Callie laughed, which drew the attention of your husband and his friend as they finally got the last guys down. "This is actually amazing," she announced. "I'm not even mad that this happened on my wedding day, not if it means that you just now learned that your husband's the Falcon!" You wanted to hide as all eyes turned towards you, but all you did was raise your hands to hide your face. The little gold band still sitting snug on your finger as you did so. "No, seriously. I wanted a wedding to remember, I think I got it!"
"Callie," you groaned, embarrassment flooding your veins at being the center of attention.
Matt ended up being your savior, walking up and taking his bride's hand in his. "All drink are on us for however long we need to be here for the heroes and police to take statements!" Matt called out, effectively sending all attention away from you.
"Thank you," you sighed, removing your hands from your face.
"I've got your back," he told you. "But not always, this is for you to face," he winked as he walked away.
You were confused for only a moment before a pair of arms wrapped around your waist. You looked over your shoulder to see Joaquín's face there, smiling at you. "So you told your friends," he muttered as you placed your hands over his where they rested on your stomach.
"Morgan saw the ring and told Callie, actually. Did you tell yours?" you asked, turning around in his arms to face him.
"I did," Joaquín confirmed.
"I guess the fact you came in here in your suit and fighting people is the reason you haven't answered your phone today."
"Did you send me texts?" Joaquín lit up and pulled his phone out of a random pocket. You watched as he read through them with a smile on his face. "You look gorgeous by the way," Joaquín told you after getting to the very first message you sent of the day, one of you in your dress before your hand and makeup was done.
"Yo, Joaquín!" Sam called him over.
Joaquín looked between you and Sam but you only gave him a smile. "Go, your job is important," you told him.
"Just this once, after this, you come first," he promised before running over to Sam.
You made it a few steps towards the wedding party when Morgan ran up to you. "Oh my god, he's totally in love with you," she squealed, leading you towards the rest of your friends.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
Joaquín had to stay until the very last man was safely in a cop car and taken away. The entire time he watched as car after car left from the wedding, wondering if you were in one of them. "Ready to go?" Sam asked Joaquín.
"Uh," Joaquín caught sight of you sitting alone on one of the benches. "Nah, you go ahead," he told Sam.
Sam's eyes shot to you. "Alright, good luck, man," Sam patted Joaquín's shoulder before taking off.
"You didn't have to wait for me," Joaquín said as you looked up.
"I wanted to," you assured him. "Plus, I want to talk about something," you added.
"Ok," Joaquín crossed his arms.
"I know we talked about divorce but I don't really want to," you muttered.
Joaquín lit up and you saw it. "I don't either," he admitted.
A moment passed where you both just stared at each other, processing that you're staying married. "My car's in the parking lot if you need a ride somewhere," you offered. Joaquín gave you the name of his hotel and watched as you smiled at him. "That's where I'm staying," you laughed.
"Well, Mrs. Torres," Joaquín offered his hand and you took it, standing up to walk him to your car hand in hand. "I think we have a wedding night too recreate sober this time. If you're ok with that."
You smiled at Joaquín, pausing at your car for a moment to lean in and kiss him. "I'm more than ok with it," you winked. "But you're driving, Mr. Torres."
"Yes, ma'am," he took your keys before unlocking your car and opening the passenger door for you. You couldn't wait to officially tell everyone this was your husband.

I started this last night and it took over 24 hours to finish if I'm being honest.
➽──────────────❥
You and your older brother aren't that close, you got along but you weren't besties. Not that it mattered much, you were both adults so at least you two cared for each other. That's what you're choosing to blame for what situation you were in.
Dating apps had sucked for you, but you decided to try one more date. Joaquín Torres was nice, funny, and exactly what you were looking for in a man. So you obviously agreed to a second date when he asked after dropping you off at your door with a sweet kiss pressed to your cheek.
You were just waiting for anyone to come into the bookstore where you worked when you decided to look Joaquín up on social media. It wasn't hard to find him, not since you learned he was Falcon. All his photos were pretty normal, a few of him and Sam Wilson, a few of just him, and a few of some sights he's seen. But it was the photos with his friends that caught your attention because you knew one of them. One of Joaquín's friends was literally your brother, Marco.
That was maybe a problem, it's not like the age gap was even huge. It was just two years, you knew it was possible seeing with one of your brother's friends on the apps, but you assumed you knew all your brother's friends.
This led to the problem you had now, deciding whether or not to cancel. You really didn't, but you also knew how your brother felt about you dating his friends. So, with a heavy heart, you texted Joaquín that you couldn't go out Friday and left it at that. Joaquín was understanding and told you that you could just tell him the next time you're free for a date and he's plan one. Which made the fact that you told him you didn't know if you could go with him again even harder, but you blocked him before you could explain why and tried not to feel too bad about it.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
Joaquín had been off since you ghosted him and everyone around him noticed. He waved all the questions off, saying he was just tried lately. Though, Joaquín planned to go play basketball with his friend Friday instead of going on a date. "What's going on with you, man?" Marco asked, looking at Joaquín with narrowed eyes.
"Nothing," Joaquín tried to brush it off but Marco shook his head.
"This isn't nothing, come on, you can tell me. I thought we'd agree to try and talk about our feelings together."
"I went on this date with a girl and thought it went well, but she just canceled and told me she can't go out with me out of the blue," Joaquín explained.
Marco nodded for a moment. "Damn, I'm sorry that happened to you," Marco clapped Joaquín on the shoulder. After a moment of thought, Marco started to talk again. "Do you want to come to this family get together I have this weekend? I have a sister, she's younger but only by two years, that I think you'll like."
Joaquín thought about it, while he liked you it wasn't like it was a break up. "Sure, why not?" Joaquín finally answered.
"Great," Marco laughed, stealing the ball from Joaquín and running to make a dunk. "Now come on, I have a game to win."
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
You and Marco were meeting up for your monthly lunch. "I invited one of my friends to the get together this weekend," Marco told you.
"An actual friends or someone you're calling a friend?" you questioned as you looked at the menu.
"Ha ha," Marco rolled his eyes. "But an actual friend, one that I'm trying to set you up with."
You looked up at Marco with wide eyes. "Woah, I just had to reject someone I really liked. I don't need you to set me up with someone else."
Marco looked up and narrowed his eyes at you before rolling them. "Just give him a chance, alright? I'm not saying you two need to get married."
"Fine, but you're buying my lunch today," you relented, realizing you should at least try to not mourn what could have been with Joaquín.
"Deal," Marco shook your hand as the waiter walked up to take your orders.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
Saturday came faster than you thought it would have, but you were pulling up to your parent's house about ten minutes after you were originally supposed to. "You're late," your mom greeted you at the door with a worried look on her face.
"Sorry," you muttered, putting your purse down on the entry table knowing it'd be safe. "I got stuck behind an accident for a little," you explained, following her into the kitchen.
"I'm just glad you're ok," she relaxed once she knew you weren't hurt.
"Do you need help in here?" you asked.
"Nope, go say hi to some of your family," she waved you off and you started your walk to the back door. "Oh and your brother brought home a boyfriend for you!"
You ignored her as you walked, not really enthused about whoever your brother brought home to try to set you up with. You could have tried to find your brother and his friend first, but you went to say hi to your aunt. Actually, you went around and did everything you'd normally do at one of these get togethers. It's not like you didn't trust your brother and his ability to pick someone for you, you just didn't know why this friend was different when he was so against you dating his old friends.
The entire time, you had been avoiding your brother and whoever he brought. You had caught sight of your brother a few times and changed your direction every time, though you hadn't seen the friend he brought. Even at dinner, you had chosen to sit with the kids because your niece asked, so you hadn't seen the friend then either.
You were sitting in the basement, hiding from your family while they took turns playing Super Smash Bros. You were looking at your phone when you heard your name and looked up, only to see Joaquín standing at the bottom of the stairs. "You're the friend he brought?" you asked before putting your head in your hands.
Joaquín was staring at you with wide eyes, moving to sit down on the other side of the couch from you. "You're Marco's sister? The one he's trying to set me up with?"
"Yeah," you mumbled into your hands. Joaquín watched as you pulled your hands away from your face, sat up straight, took a deep breath, and looked towards him. "I think I have some things to explain to you."
"Maybe," Joaquín shrugged. "It sucked that you just blocked me, but you don't have to explain yourself."
"No, I think I do," you countered. "I didn't want to cancel on you or even tell you that we couldn't go out anymore, but I saw you were friends with my brother. And before he's been so against me even saying his friends are cute, so I got scared and broke it off with you. I'm sorry."
Joaquín took a second to process it, but once he did you could see the smile grow on his face. You could see Joaquín open his mouth to answer when your brother came down the stairs. "Oh, you two finally met," Marco looked between where you both were sitting on opposite ends of the couch. "Is everything ok?"
"Yeah, I was just about to ask your sister out, actually," Joaquín answered, though his eyes were on you and your reaction.
You looked between your brother and Joaquín a few times. "I'll go back upstairs," Marco said, turning around and sprinting up the stairs.
"Will you go out with me?" Joaquín officially asked you.
"I'd love to," you told him. "I promise I won't cancel and block you this time," you gave him a smile while pulling your phone out.
At the angle you were sitting, Joaquín could see your phone screen and how when you unlocked it you were already on his contact with the final confirmation to unblock him. "You were going to unblock me."
"Yeah, I didn't know who my brother brought with him," you said it casually, not knowing you were walking into Joaquín's trap.
"You were going to pick some guy you went on one date with over the guy your brother brought home for you? I'm offended."
You blinked at Joaquín before laughing. "You're the same person."
"Still, you were going to choose someone else."
"You, I was going to choose you."
"You didn't even give me a chance." Joaquín dramatically flopped backwards against the back of the couch before sitting up and scooting closer to you
"What are you even talking about? You're the same person," you were laughing so hard you started to sprout tears as you leaned into Joaquín's side. "I was choosing you," you added, laughing harder as Joaquín started to tickle your sides.
"You were still going to unblock me before you even met me."
You laughed harder, managing to reach out to tickle Joaquín enough for him to stop his assault. Both of your laughter could be heard from upstairs where your mom and brother were standing together. "How'd you know they'd be good together?" Marco turned towards your mother.
Your mom smiled wider when she heard you both call a truce before turning and walking away, Marco hot on her heels. "That's just what mothers do, Marco. We know when our kids are in love."
"In love, they just met."
"You poor naive child," your mother laughed, going straight to finish the dishes as you and Joaquín emerged from the basement hand in hand.

➽──────────────❥
Joaquín was different after the incident at Celestial Island. You had been dating him for years and engaged for months, and you were sure there was nothing that could break the two of you. You stayed, of course you did. Joaquín may have been different but he was healing, he went through something traumatic. He was bound to be different after something like that.
You tried to be helpful without being suffocating, but there was only so much you could do without him feeling like you were. So you kept backing off, kept trying to be there while giving him space.
You thought you had been giving him what he wanted, you thought you had been doing exactly what he needed. But apparently not because you were standing outside what used to be your shared house with a bag packed and nothing to show for the last few years of your life.
You went to Sam, you needed a place to stay while you thought over what happened. Sam welcomed you in, there wasn't a moment of hesitation from the man. Not after you told him that Joaquín had been acting off days prior, and how you told him you were no longer engaged. That Joaquín ended it all before you could process that he did.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
You had just been trying to give Joaquín his meds. "Quíno?" you gently asked as you walked up. He was lounging on the couch, the TV was playing but there wasn't any sound. "Here," you gently handed him his pills, but he didn't move to grab them.
Joaquín glanced at the pills in your hand before looking back blankly at the TV. "I'll take them in a minute," he muttered.
You paused, you were leaving for work soon and wanted to make sure he took them on time for his next ones. "Joaquín, please," you mumbled, trying again with a layer of desperation in your voice.
Joaquín snapped, he went off on some rant while you stood there trying to keep up but failing. There was one thing you caught before he walked off, his walk was slow but you didn't dare even try to follow him. "We're done, forever," echoed in your mind as you left your ring on the kitchen table. Joaquín had went into the guest room, so you didn't even run into him as you packed your bag. You threw some things into a bag and just left.
Your footsteps echoed through the house as you left, the sound of Joaquín's regret. Even if his regret wasn't stronger than his anger at the moment. Even if it would take a while before he would even register what he had done.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
It had been six months since you left, since Joaquín took your heart and broke it. You still worked with him and Sam, you kept doing the paperwork and research. But you stayed in your little office away from the two and only leaving when you absolutely had to. You still got to watch Joaquín slowly but surely turn back into the man you love. The man you knew, but you were sure he had moved on. Or at least sure he didn't want you anymore.
It was a mixed mission, one where The Thunderbolts came out to help with it. You were in your office, Bob sitting off to the side while you fed the others information since he wasn't allowed to go with the others but didn't want to stay in New York alone. "What's this?" Bob was holding one of the many trinkets you kept on your desk.
You glanced back and froze, you forgot you had that. "It's a box, a ring box," you mumbled, looking back to your screen as you heard the dull click of it opening.
Bob spun the empty box around, trying to see if the ring was just hidden in the insert instead of being displayed. "Where's the ring?"
You paused what you were doing, the others had all the information they asked for anyway. "I'm not sure, I gave it back," you told Bob. You watched as he placed the box down and scrunched his eyebrows.
"You gave it back? Why?"
"Joaquín told me we were done, that he didn't want to marry me anymore. So I left the ring when I left the house, why keep it when it would do nothing but cause me hurt?" You tapped the box as you reached towards the shy man. "I forgot I had this and clearly Joaquín did too, or he just doesn't care about it," you added, turning back to the computer.
Bob didn't know what to say, according to Joaquín you two were still together. "Oh," Bob put the box back down before grabbing another thing. It was a little stress ball shaped like a star. Bob decided this would be a better thing to mess around with instead of the box.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
You were still in your office when the others got back, you didn't want to see how hurt Joaquín was after all of that. Bob was still in your office too, he was still messing with your things. "Hey," Sam walked in, scratching the back of his neck as he walked in. "So, something happened and we kind of need you."
You stood, startling Bob when you accidentally knocked something over and topple onto him. "What happened?" you asked, moving around the desk to follow Sam.
Bob wasn't far behind you at all, his footsteps quiet. "Joaquín got hit in the head hard," Sam explained as you cringed. "And now he's lost his memories of the last few months, including the break up," Sam added and you paused. Sam paused a few steps ahead of you, Bob accidentally running into the back of you. "He's asking for you," Sam dropped the bomb and you blinked at your boss.
You blinked fast, your mind reeling. "Sam," your hands were trembling when you spoke. "We have to tell him, we can't just keep the whole thing a secret," you mumbled.
Sam shook his head at you, he didn't want to lie to Joaquín but he needed the kid calm. "Look, just for now, ok? Just until we can get him medical attention without him freaking out and trying to look for you," he offered. "And plus, there may be a chance that within that time frame he remembers. It could have already come back to him, but you need to come with me just in case it hasn't. He knows he's missing time and I think that's freaking him out a bit, we didn't have time to tell him you two were no longer together before he started asking. We figured it would just be easier to have you come than to try to tell him right now."
You thought about it, there were so many things wrong with this idea already. But if it was to help Joaquín then you could do it, you could keep up the lie that you were together if it meant you were helping the man you were still in love with. "Ok, let's go," you muttered, walking with Bob still trailing behind you.
The room you walked into was small and clearly the medical room they had been trying to get Joaquín medical help in. He was propped up on the bed, and while he was letting them take his vitals, he was still asking for you. "Look, where's y/n? I'll cooperate once I see her, I promise, man," Joaquín was talking to Bucky, the older man only standing there with his arms crossed.
"She's right there," Bucky pointed towards you, his voice a little exasperated at the thought of Joaquín continuing his uncooperative attitude.
Joaquín looked over at you, his eyes moving from you towards Bob standing behind you and back to you. Before he could speak, you were moving closer. "Hey, baby," you spoke softly, you were sure you would never get to call him that again. "I heard you hit your head pretty hard," you mumbled, stepping closer to gently brush his curls off his forehead. There was ash on your hands when you did it, almost taunting you that you would forever only taint a good thing if you touched it again. Joaquín blinked up at you, his eyes wide as he stared at you. "What's the last thing you remember, Quíno?"
Joaquín was still looking at you, his eyes softening as you spoke. "Uh, Sam visiting that guy, Sidewinder," Joaquín told you and you softly nodded. You hadn't been there for that, Joaquín and Sam placed you in a safe house for that whole fiasco. Joaquín was staring at your left hand and you clenched your fist. You still had the key to the house, so, unless Joaquín changed the locks, you could go get the ring if needed. "Where's your ring?"
Sam stepped in for that, his voice stern but still trying to be nice. "She left it on her desk in the hurry to get here, she was sending us information and you know she doesn't like to type with it on. Now let the doctors look you over," Sam led you out of the room, Bob still following behind you.
You sighed as you leaned against the wall a little ways down the hallway. "That was harder than I thought it would be," you mumbled, looking down at your dirty hand.
Bob offered you a towel, one he probably took on his way out of the room. "It didn't look that hard," he tried to offer you reassurance, but you were too far in your head.
"I just lied to the man that I love but no longer loves me that we are still in love, all while knowing he could gain his memories back any minute," you huffed a little while you looked up at the roof.
Bob watched you, watched as you rubbed the towel over your hand even though you had gotten all the ash off of it already. "Do you need to get the ring?" he offered you something else to think about, taking the towel from your hand.
You thought it over, you should probably grab it but there was no guarantee that it would be easy to find. "Yeah, I probably should," you nodded as Yelena walked out of the medical room. "Lena," you called for her and she walked to you, her stride holding the confidence you wish you had right now.
"What's up?" She looked between you two, her eyebrow raised.
"Can you text me if Joaquín remembers anything else? I'm going to go back to the house and see if I can find the ring just in case," you already were pulling your phone out.
"What about Bob?" Yelena looked at the man as you made a new group chat between the three of you.
"He's going to come with me, there's some places in the house that Joaquín may have put it that I won't be able to reach," you told her, sending the first text in the group.
Yelena looked up at you with the most deadpan look she could muster. "You seriously had time to name the chat?" she asked, a humorous lit to her voice.
You looked at her, a small smile on your face. "Of course I did, but we've gotta go," you told her, thanking her for being a part of your plan before rushing off with Bob hot on your trail.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
The house was different than it was the last time you were there, the sink was empty and so was the fridge. You hoped Joaquín hadn't been eating take out the last few months, but by the looks of the rest of the house and trash he had been. Bob stood awkwardly to the side as you checked over the cabinets before walking back out. "So, I left the ring on the kitchen table but it could be any-" you cut yourself off when you saw the ring still sitting where you left it, a flower from outside, one of the ones you always loved and pointed out to Joaquín, was laid out next to it.
You blinked at the sight and Bob watched as you gently reached out for it. You took the ring and slipped it on your finger, after not wearing it for the last few months, it felt wonderful to wear it again. Like you were never meant to be without it. "Looks like it wasn't that hard to find," Bob spoke, his voice a little tentative as he spoke.
You sighed out, a little heartbroken at the look of the house. Joaquín clearly had kind of down spiraled. There was take out trash everywhere and it seemed like Joaquín had spent the last few months on the couch. "I should clean up a bit," you mumbled, reaching for the closest piece of trash.
Bob watched as you threw away the cup that had been sitting on the table. "I'll help, come on," Bob told you, moving to help you clean up.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
Joaquín was laying in bed, he was told you were off getting the house ready for him. He accepted the answer easily enough. He was still in bed when you got back, the ring back on your finger. Joaquín saw it the second you walked in, his smile wide at the sight of you. You sat down in the seat next to his bed, your smile small but there. "Where did you go?" Joaquín asked, his voice quiet in the room.
You hummed for a moment before answering. "I thought the others told you," you spoke, letting Joaquín place his hand on your cheek. "I was cleaning up the house a little," you mumbled the excuse, hyperaware of how Joaquín was cradling your face with the same dumb, soft look he always had.
Joaquín was only staring at you, a look in his eyes you couldn't place quite correctly. "I know, but why?"
You blinked at him, had the others told him a reason? "Did they not tell you?" you asked as you tried to figure out what lies were told without Joaquín picking up on it.
"No," Joaquín shook his head.
You nodded slowly, trying to come up with a lie that wouldn't be utter nonsense. "We decided to finally do that stay at a hotel for date night," you lied, "we haven't been home for a few days and then the mission happened. So the house was a little out of shape," you mumbled.
Joaquín blinked at you, like he was trying to figure out if he wanted to actually believe you or not. "Oh," he muttered, trying to keep his hand on your cheek as you turned your head towards the opening door. Bob walked in, his walk a little shaky. "Who's that?" Joaquín whispered.
You looked between the two slowly before answering. "Bob Reynolds, he's on Bucky's team," you told him, wondering if that would be the information that gave Joaquín his memories back.
Joaquín nodded, his nod slow and a little sluggish. "Oh, ok," he accepted the answer. "Hi, Bob," something went off in your head at his words. Almost like there was something he was hiding and you picked up on it without realizing, you brushed it off thinking that maybe Bob just seemed familiar to Joaquín even with the missing memories.
"Sam wants to talk to you," Bob told you and you nodded, standing up and leaving Joaquín with the softest kiss pressed to his forehead. Bob followed you out of the room, leaving Joaquín alone once again.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
Joaquín was able to leave the same day after some observation, he had a concussion but thankfully that was all. You were just waiting for Joaquín to remember, to remember you were no longer his and he was no longer yours.
You walked into the house and were thankful that Sam had dropped off your things from his house. It looked like you had been living there and not like you had been living with Sam for a while. It seemed Joaquín had no idea, but there was a vibe in the house. One that you were worried would give away the secret that everyone was keeping.
Joaquín lowered himself down on the couch, in the exact same spot that he was in when he ended it all. You realized you were about to recreate the exact moment Joaquín ended it all, you were about to have to give Joaquín medicine. "Quíno?" You walked up slowly, like you were approaching a wounded animal.
Joaquín looked up at you with a cute smile, one that made your heart ache. "Yes, mi vida?"
You sat down this time, trying to keep from getting too strong of a sense of deja vu. "You should take these," you held the pill bottle and Joaquín reached for it. You let him take the bottle and waited with baited breath as he took the medicine with the water bottle that you handed him.
Joaquín set the bottle down on the side table before opening his arms. You gave him an odd look, unsure what he was asking. "Amor, come on," Joaquín laughed like you were just playing a little joke on him. You blinked before slowly crawling into his arms and letting him pull you into his chest.
You willed your stiff body to relax, to let Joaquín hold you as he turned the TV on. It flicked to the movie that was playing when Joaquín broke it off and you fought the urge to flinch. It was one of the ones that Joaquín loved to watch, a comfort movie you think, but he swapped the channel. "Why'd you change it? Isn't it one of your favorites?" you asked softly, trying to keep yourself from reliving everything once again.
Joaquín softly shrugged, nuzzling his nose into your hair before speaking. "Wasn't feeling it," he replied and you let him keep nuzzling into you with some random movie playing in the background.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
It had been three days and Joaquín still didn't have his memories. You told the others and Sam was worried, that was a lot of time to forget and you knew Joaquín probably had questions on the scars he had. Not that he asked you, he kept his questions to himself mostly. Or he kept them away from you.
Sam showed up in the afternoon on the fourth day of no memories. You had told Joaquín that Sam was coming and now the two were about to leave. "We will be back," Sam told you and you nodded a little.
You watched as Joaquín got into Sam's truck before speaking. "If he doesn't remember after this," you crossed your arms, "then I'm telling him. He deserves to know, Sam," you looked towards the man you still loved for a brief second.
Sam gave you a look, one you knew well. "Wouldn't you want this second chance?"
You shook your head, looking back towards Joaquín for a moment. "I love him, I do, but he ended it for a reason and he deserves to know that. Even if it hurts," you mumbled.
Sam shook his head gently. "You're very noble, that's why you're a good hero."
"I'm not the hero, you two are," you countered.
"You're more of a hero than you think you are. Why do you think the public named you Aetheria?"
"Because I always find what we're looking for and therefore aetherial?" you tried to joke.
"Because they believe in you, we all believe in you. Even when you're making decisions we don't necessarily agree with," Sam offered before leaving, clearly talking about your decision to tel Joaquín. You waved to the two as Sam pulled out of the driveway before you went back inside to repack everything that was brought over. This time with more you could bring without the pressure of a self imposed time limitation to get out of the house.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
Sam and Joaquín were pulling into the medical center parking lot when Joaquín finally broke down. "I remember everything, I've known since you walked out to go find her," Joaquín admitted and Sam turned to look at the younger man.
Sam stared at Joaquín, bafflement on his face. "And you've been lying for this long?"
Joaquín raised his hands in defense. "So have the rest of you!"
"To protect you by not causing you to freak out over it!" Sam shook his head, disappointed but not surprised. "Why not tell us then? Why not just tell everyone that you knew?"
"Because then she'd leave me again, she'd know I remember breaking it off and think I don't love her," Joaquín whispered, his voice small. "I love her, I never stopped. I just-" Joaquín looked out the window, his eyes landing on two swans swimming together. "I wasn't thinking straight, I don't even think I was thinking."
Sam sighed as he watched Joaquín fidget with his hands in his lap. "Alright, then," Sam changed gears again and pulled out of the parking lot.
Joaquín looked over at Sam, confused about what was happening. "Where are we going?"
"I'm taking you back home and you two are going to talk this out. Because she's planning on telling you about the break up if you don't remember. So you better get in there, tell her the truth, and beg on your knees for her to not leave your ass," Sam spoke, a hard set to his voice. Joaquín knew that Sam was right, not that he voiced it in the car. He was far too busy thinking about how he was going to tell you that he remembered without you leaving him this time.
✧°˖ . ݁˖︵‿❀‿︵˖ . ݁˖°✧
You thought you would be done with packing by the time Joaquín got back, but you didn't think he would be home faster than it took for them to get the scan results. You hadn't even put anything into bags, you were organizing your clothes on the bed. You didn't know what to think as Joaquín walked into the bedroom, took your hands in his, and fell to his knees. "Quíno?" you questioned, ready to tell him you were just going through your clothes for donation if needed.
Joaquín looked up at you, pain in his eyes. "I remember," he spoke and you tried to step away but Joaquín's grip was unrelenting. "I've remembered the whole time, not at first but after Sam went to go get you. But then you were calling me baby and running your hand through my hair and I hadn't told the others I remembered yet because I wanted to talk to you first, so I took the opportunity to pretend. I know it was wrong, but I love you. I have always loved you and I know I broke it off, but I wasn't even thinking. I was in a place I didn't want to drag you into and thought breaking it off would be better. I thought it would last forever, but it didn't. And I realized I made the biggest mistake, so when I got the chance to pretend I took it. I-" you cut Joaquín off by gently lowering to the floor.
You worked your hands out of his, moving to cradle his face. Joaquín nuzzled into your hands, trying to take the comfort you're giving him. "You let us lie to you? You didn't once think about telling us the truth while we all scrambled to make sure not to hurt your mind?" You weren't mad, you were confused.
Joaquín nodded, his want to please you stronger than wanting to lie to save his image. "I knew it was wrong, but I wanted to give you time to remember what it was like before. For you to fall in love with me again."
"Again?" you asked with a small smile. "I've loved you the whole time."
"But I hurt you."
"And I love you more than it hurt," you replied. "Why do you think I went along with the lie for so long? I was going to tell you once you were cleared from the hospital that first day, but then you were smiling at me and I caught a glimpse of the man that I love so much. There hasn't been a day, broken up or not, where I haven't loved you."
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," Joaquín mumbled.
"I know you are," you pulled him into a hug.
"Will you marry me? I know I made mistakes and I know I hurt you, but-"
"I will," you promised, cutting him off.
"Really?"
"Yeah," you assured him, laughing into the kiss he tried to give you.
"Mi vida, come on, I'm trying to kiss you, be serious," he was laughing too though, effectively making you laugh harder.
"Will you just promise me one thing?" you asked softly.
"Anything," Joaquín replied, just as soft.
"If you ever get that bad again, will you talk to someone? It doesn't have to be me, but that wasn't healthy, Quíno."
Joaquín nodded, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead. "I promise," he whispered.
