God, Sam in that shot from Jus in Bello gets me every time. Heās been letting Dean deal with Henrickson, theyāve got this cat and mouse bullshit going on. But Henrickson suggests John was sexually abusive to Dean and he is locked in, sits shoulder to shoulder. Heās looking at Henrickson. Henricksonās enjoying baiting Dean, heās probably just happy to also get a reaction out of Sam if he even notices at all. But Samās got teeth too. Itās the quiet ones you need to watch out for.
Yes I love that detail. Just moments before this Sam shoots Dean a subtle glare when Henriksen brings up them breaking out of the jail ("a long storied career of dumb and crazy"). He's been looking out the window, sits facing away from Henriksen, is listening but obviously trying to avoid engaging. Then Henrickson changes topics and Sam gets geared up. That slooow sit up, shoulder closest to Dean setting first before he squares the other one up. Mirroring his brother's body language as he fills the space Dean moves out of as he leans forward.
The conversation gets cut short by demons (rude) but if it had gone longer I bet Sam would have ended up standing in front of Dean, looming at Henriksen as best he can behind bars. I think that also would have been the first time they actually talked to each other on screen.

and sure deans had thoughts about his own sam but he hated himself and never did anything about it because they were already freaks
but this sam is backing him against the garage and sucking a hickey into deans neck with no shame even though pretty jess is sitting inside talking to mom over dessert about wedding plans and sam is groping dean over his jeans
and deans tearing up from the too hot too rough too fast pleasure and that it doesnāt matter because he clearly ruins sam in every universe

And...
In this version, Dean isn't as motivated to leave when the creepy flashes of that girl finally start to make sense to him. He realizes he's probably stuck in a djinn dream, knows he'll die if he stays, but...
But here Sam is kissing him, is looking at him like Dean is his entire world, is choosing Dean. How can he leave when this is everything he never let himself realize that he always wanted??
So when Sam, actual, real life Sam, finds him and wakes him from the djinn's coma, he's relieved but also sad in a way that he cannot explain to Sam. He has to act happy and normal when he had and lost everything. And even knowing that it was all an illusion, fuck it still aches.
Meanwhile, Sam finds that he can breathe again, now that he's gotten Dean back. He saved him! Sam saved his brother. But he'd been so worried, that had been too close, too goddamn close. And he can't seem to keep his hands off Dean. Touching just to make sure he's still there, really there, that he's okay and alive and... He's got to make himself reign it back in though or Dean'll get suspicious. Dean's good at finding patterns, at connecting dots, and if Sam's not careful Dean will see how all Sam's little innocent seeming touches form into a looming sort of longing.
I like this sooo much. As an alternative I also like the idea that in the djinn universe they only fuck because Sam doesnāt see him so much as a brother. Itās not incestuous, doesnāt count because itās not like weāre close like that, right? Weāre like, barely brothers at this point.
And Dean thinks even if here he gets to touch Sam, calling it okay by denying their brotherhood feels like denying a fundamental part of himself. Heād rather go back home and never touch Sam again as long as Sam calls him his big brother.
And if, when he gets home, he ends up staring a little too long at Sam anyway because he knows what his dimples taste like, whoās to blame him?
When they do take that step, itās dirtybadwrong in the good way because Sam looks at him with his baby brother eyes and asks, please, Dee? I need my big brother.

In other news, today I finished the first season of Supernatural and I have to say I don't understand why people say they got queerbaited by it. I mean, those two brothers were definitely fucking. No baiting there.
there's no amount of meta i could write that would ever come close to explaining dean's relationship with the people around him better than that scene in 'home' where dean calls his dad crying because he doesn't know what to do and his dad's voicemail tells him to call himself if it's an emergency.
