āI was just a year old when my family came from Ecuador. My parents were always open with me about it. Even from a young age. I was lucky that wayā a lot of undocumented kids donāt find out the truth until theyāre much older. Their parents never tell them because they want them to feel normal. So the kids grow up thinking that theyāre 100 percent American. Then they try to study abroad, or apply to colleges, and they find out they donāt have the papers. And it hits them hard. Itās like theyāve got to figure themselves out all over again. They learn that they arenāt a part of the culture they grew up in. And they start to feel a sense of shame. Nobody ever talks about it. Theyāre too afraid. I certainly never told anyone. Thatās why DACA was so interesting. It gave us the smallest amount of safety. People started to step out of the shadows, and say āIām here.ā We began to find each other. Now thereās a community. And weāre speaking out together. We grew up in this culture. We grew up with the same kids as everyone else. This is our home.ā
Falling in love was simple; one had only to yield. Digesting another person, however, and sustaining love, was bloody work, and not a soft job.

Hmm
one last thing and iām officially over it: communication is very important. please please PLEASE talk to someone if something they did bothers you. your friend said something that upset you? tell them āhey you upset meā. if they care about you, theyāll stop doing it and this little misunderstanding will be forgotten. whatever issues you have, all this can be talked out
yes
Your voice is important. Donāt halfway your opinion. Donāt back-pedal and soften it up and cater to everyone else. Youāll catch hate anyway. I donāt mean you never say youāre wrong; weāre all wrong, a lot. I mean: be fabulously passionate about whatās right. Youāre a drop in this ocean and then youāre gone. Make it count. Stand for something.

Rihanna and Lupita Nyong'o will costar in a buddy movie directed by Ava DuVernay for Netflix
āAfter dramatic negotiation session at the Cannes Film Festival, Netflix has nabbed a film project pairing Grammy winner Rihanna with Oscar winner Lupita Nyongāo, in a concept that began as a Twitter sensation. GUYS I FIGURED IT OUT
Okay so you know how in Beauty in the Beastā¦
This lady canāt afford six eggs, which always struck me as a little odd but I figured maybe that was normal in a poor French village. I mean, look at all the little kids she has; she probably struggles to afford any kind of food that would feed all of them⦠Right?
But later we discover something interesting about Gaston:
Gaston eats five dozen eggs every day. Thatās 60 eggs. SIXTY. Which adds up to 420 eggs per week. No wonder this poor village doesnāt have enough of them to go around!
Gaston, who is very well-respected and successful and probably makes good money from his fabulous hunting skills, is cornering the entire egg market. To feed his addiction, he probably has to constantly go around and buy out every farmerās supply of eggs, which causes the price on any remaining eggs to skyrocket.
Gaston is singlehandedly destroying the townās economy.
Way to go, Gaston.Ā You may be popular, but Iām sure that at least the chicken farmers were relieved when you fell to your death.

āWe were pretty poor back in Mexico. My parents were divorced. Mom did the best she could. She was always a hustler. Sheād sell jewelry, or food, or anything that she could. But a lot of nights there still wouldnāt be enough to eat. Weād survive on tortillas and salt. I was only eight when we came to America. So I was too young to understand. I think my mom thought she could make some money and bring us home. She thought sheād learn English, and maybe start a business. But it was so much harder than she expected. We moved so much looking for work. Sheās fifty and she still cleans houses every day. Every year she gets more worn down. Sheās been getting sick a lot lately. But she canāt afford to stop. She never will. Right now Iām in school. I always thought I had to be the best student because Iām undocumented. I thought Iād go to law school, or graduate school. But now Iām not so sure. My mom would literally destroy her body to make that happen for me. How could I allow that to happen? Iām a Dreamer. And everyone loves the Dreamers because weāre a perfect package to sell. But why am I the only one who gets the chance to feel safe? Whenever I hear āI stand with Dreamers,ā I always think about my mom. Iām not willing to throw her under the bus. Iām not willing to be a bargaining chip to make her seem like a criminal. Everything people admire about Dreamers is because of our parents.ā
the podcastĀ āTerrible, Thanks for Askingā has been one of my favorites so far. Itās a podcast about some of the worst days of peopleās lives. and i find it to be refreshing and honest and real. i think with all the things going on in the world, there is a kind of optimism that could be borderline delusion thatās popular. just be positive and it will all work out -_- but this podcast has brought me to tears sometimes. sometimes it hurts and things are sad. iām learning to lean into sadness than to avoid it
Damn yes gon check this out
I think people would make much better decisions when it comes to dating if they stopped focusing on things like weddings and babies and instead focused on things like funerals and disappointment. What I mean is when I think about who I want to marry, I canāt just stop at who I want to meet at the altar. Because when youāre thinking about the person you want to spend your natural life with, that means the person who will be by your side when life is hard. When your parents die. When you lose your job. When your child is hurt. When bill canāt get paid. And when all of those painful moments come, you have to think āis this the person i want by my side? Is this the person who will be generous and giving when Iām in need? Is this the person who will find the words to soothe my aching heart? Is this the person that when I look across the room through tearful eyes, I want to, need to see their face?ā
What Iām saying is when youāre thinking till death do us part, you really have to listen to the whole vow. The commitment is more than just walking down the isle. Its who you want to walk through life with.
Damn
imo he was being super salty about that tendency guys have to blame their anatomy for their bad choices
itās like āoh i donāt want to be a creepo but my dick has a mind of its ownā āwell hereās a scissors fix your lifeā
or maybe, you know, have some damn respect, and donāt pretend you donāt have a choice of whether to be nasty
i think people have a tendency to take jesus literally when he was actually throwing shade, or to take things in this really smarmy martyrish way when theyāre actually pretty snippy
i mean āturn the other cheekā sounds like being a doormat until you picture how it would play out: someone smacks you, and you turn and go ādo it again, go on, take a swing buddy, does that make you feel better, do you feel like a winner now?ā cuz you know what 90% of the time they will get curled up shame toes and shuffle off
tl;dr: no jesus did not actually want you to take a spoon to your eyeballs for babe watching, he wanted you to take responsibility for how you treat people
All of the actions Jesus told his followers to perform are actually passive-aggressive actions meant to oppose and resist Jerusalemās Roman colonizers. Like, turning the other cheek is actually a matter of forcing the Roman to either break proper slapping etiquette or to hit you properly- thereby treating you as an equal instead of someone heās subjugating. If a debtor is taking all your possessions in court, you include the shirt off your back so his greed is causing you to commit public nudity. And when a soldier forces you to carry his equipment (as per the law of the time), you go the extra mile with him- literally carrying his bag beyond the distance that the law stipulates and therefore making the action illegal.
Context matters.
Jesus was a radical, rebellious, snarky twentysomething. Always remember that.
A Jesus post Iām here for.
Canon Jesus is always 100% better than current fanon Jesus
now you all know why I wrote that particular fic
Jesus and his merry band of passive aggressive teenagers (because none save he and Peter had to pay the temple tax, so we know everyone else was under the age of 20) were salty af and you should absolutely keep that in mind whenever you read the bible or quote it. These young bucks had had it up to HERE with society at large and most adults within radius of them. If the vernacular existed, dude wouldāve legitimately said, āHereās some scissors, fix yo life.ā

Heās too good. Iām not good at all. Heās too much, Iāll never be enough. He knows whatās good for me. I search this world like it holds all the answers, whilst every now and then half-heartedly asking Him for guidance and strength. He wants to see me, and Iām crying because no one cares. Ā He knows every part of me, and Iām stressed because I feel misunderstood. Everything is in Him, but Iām looking at this world while Heās got His hand out to me. Everything is for Him, but Iām looking at this world waiting for someone to notice me. Everything is His, but Iām living like He owes me a favour. I am unworthy, flawed, selfish, unkind, angry, ungrateful, impatient and too easily pleased - when the gift of Godās love is waiting for me to speak.Ā I donāt have to be distant, but my actions donāt reflect my words. The only one who IS worthy is calling me to no more hurt.
I found this in my drafts and it really hit home today. (via

Love between friends isnāt all games and giggles. It means I want to see the best in you, and I hope you have the outspoken audacity to see the best in me. Real friends speak with tears in their eyes, voice shaking, heart breaking, a quiet courage to say āYouāre better than this.ā
