Here’s what you can do before the 2026 elections:
Find out the dates of your elections, which seats will be up for re-election, and who is running
Note the dates of each election, when early voting starts or when absentee/mail in ballots are due
Confirm you’re registered multiple times over the next year on your county’s website
Get to know the reps that are running for ALL parties, attend their events, contact their offices, vet them like they’re an employee you’re interviewing, because they are your employees. This is your hobby now. This is what you and your community does every week now. Assign events/candidates to people in your friend group. Sign up for notifications and emails from candidates. Make a GoogleCalendar of events so you all know what’s happening where and when so you can attend or watch live. They need to know we are watching, we are participating, and what we want from our reps.
Put this info into a document so you can keep track of these candidates, are able to rank them closer to the election, and bring it with you on your phone to the polls
Before your elections, look up a sample ballot online so you know what and who will be on it, and make your voting day plan if you’re going in person
Additional actions you may find helpful: read political literature, watch political documentaries, listen to political podcasts, learn about your local/state political history
Participating in politics is the only way forward and the only way to get more of the leaders and the legislature we want and need. Not voting and not participating is not an option 🇺🇸
