Gillian Anderson is an American-British actress. Born in Chicago, Anderson grew up in London and Grand Rapids, Michigan. She received international fame for starring as FBI Special Agent Dana Scully in the science fiction mystery series The X-Files (1993–2002; 2016-2018), winning a Golden Globe Award for the role. Her other tumblr famous credits include playing Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier on Hannibal (2013–2015) and Media on American Gods (2017). She earned her second Golden Globe for playing Margaret Thatcher in the fourth season of Netflix drama series The Crown (2020). Over her career she has received various accolades including two Primetime Emmy Awards and four Screen Actors Guild Award as well as nominations for three Laurence Olivier Awards. She was appointed an honorary Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2016 for her services to drama. Anderson has supported numerous charities and humanitarian organizations. She is an honorary spokesperson for the Neurofibromatosis Network and a co-founder of South African Youth Education for Sustainability (SAYes).

Hal is an international British/French ambient techno group. In 1997, Hal gained widespread recognition when Anderson featured on their track "Extremis". Anderson hosted the BBC science documentary series Future Fantastic, which used an instrumental Hal track as its theme. She loved the music so much she collaborated with the group on a new, spoken-word version. "Extremis", released in May, 1997, blended trance, house, and ambient electronica with Anderson's atmospheric vocals.

What I mean here is that, so often I see pairings enacting romance tropes to the point of heavily altering or downright replacing their original dynamic - as if the people behind it only understand romance as a series of checklists to tick off. Couples like to kiss and sleep in the same bed and flirt with each other, so it doesn't matter who the characters are, if they're a couple then naturally they'll do those things, right??

And that's where the whole thing starts to lose me, because I would assume that the appeal of shipping characters is, y'know... the characters? Rather than just, the idea of a couple? If I'm thinking about how it'd be cool for them to be in love, my first thought is always "so how would they show it," because just like everything else about a person, the answer is going to be different on a case-by-case basis.

Maybe the characters involved aren't really into kissing, but they like arranging date activities. Maybe they aren't committed to the structure of dating at all, and just want to be around each other whenever they can. And even if they are the types to like doing traditionally romantic things, that doesn't suddenly erase whatever else they had going on before they started adding that on top of it.
