I've been an outcast at my job for quite some time. Many reasons why. I was a supervisor for a long time, so it was part of my job to monitor production and provide corrections. People don't like that, no matter how gently you do it. I tried my absolute best to be a very chill and lenient leader, but at the end of the day i had no choice to provide a correction, that's literally just the job. And then, I just distance myself from anybody who likes to gossip and be judgemental, so I'm not part of the popular group.

There was a time that we had this huge work function with over 40 people and I was one of the first people there. I sat at a table in the center of the room and not one single person sat at my table. I watched literally every single other table fill up around me. I felt embarassed sitting there alone in the center of the room. I went outside and cried.

There have been days where I go through my entire shift with not one single person speaking to me.

So awhile ago, we hired a big group of people, which included 2 autistic girls (they have identified themselves this way). They were immediately ousted for being "annoying", not working fast enough and "asking too many questions". Once again, I did not jump on the hate train. Both of them were the only people here who would talk to me, tell me good morning, give me compliments, and I would share snacks with them. So I was like no, there's nothing wrong with them, you guys are just miserable hateful pieces of shit.

Anyway, we've hired new people again, and again neither are popular. One because she talks a lot and she's loud, which did annoy me at first. But once she started talking to me, I realized she was incredibly kind and positive and friendly. I liked her immediately. The other because she's 80 years old, but I've been training her and we had a very sweet moment where she opened up to me about her life and how she ended up here.

All of this leads up to one simple thing. This morning I walked in, and two of the 'unpopular' people who were working together said GOOD MORNING *my name*! And it was like such a huge thing because I'm never greeted in the morning and especially not by genuine kindness.

And that's when i felt like... I'm part of a group now. The outcasts, really. And I'm so glad I'm in this group instead of the miserable, judgemental, gossip group.
