So I was raised with them being seperate, never knew any different. That was my normal, never saw them in the same room once until my highschool graduation.

They never got along at all, if that's not obvious.

Well, a couple years ago my dad had a major heart attack and almost died. It was terrifying. As much as I don't like a lot of things about him, I still love him and he's my only dad and I've known him my entire life. Like I've never... not had my dad at least somewhere, you know?

Well, later it was disclosed to me that my mom had gone and visited him in the hospital (after I did). I'm not sure why, but I felt a sense of betrayal. Also, shock. I just felt like... you guys did this behind my back? I'm not sure why I felt that way, I just did.

In hindsight, I understand it now. My mom was concerned about me, and thought I was going to lose my dad, and she wanted to sort of get answers and prepare because she knew she is my biggest support. I'm my dad's only child and my mom was worried that I was about to face all these big scary decisions and she wanted to have all the information to prepare herself to help me.

Losing her own father was extremely traumatic to her and she didn't want it to be like that for me.

And the thing is, ever since that day, my parents have been Facebook friends. And at first I was uncomfortable with this also. It's just strange when your entire life, your parents are just never speaking at all and then when you're 33 years old, they meet up and then sort of connect. It's so strange.
