After school is out, I promise to be right back here and just as active as you all deserve. I hope you can all understand this mini-hiatus, and know that I do want to reply to each and every one of you, because I just love it here and you are all simply amazing. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I'll be back shortly! Don't blow the place up in my absence. Chloe & Autumn, I'm talking to you.
Babel | Lily & Remus.
âYou caught it.â She repeated, just to hear it from her own mouth, hoping he would realize how ridiculous it sounded. It stung, deep into her core, to know that he didnât want her to know so badly that he would lie so obviously, that he would say absolutely anything to make her blind to the truth. Lily didnât understand that he would always think of himself as a monster. Lily didnât get that he didnât want her to know because he feared that she too would see him as a beast. Remus was beautiful. She found it remarkable that he could have flaws at all. For so long it had been reduced to the scars on his face. That was the only thing wrong with him, the mystery of those barely visible scrapes. Now that she knew where they came from, he seemed even more to her. A flawed person is a truly beautiful life because it makes them real. They survive even with their imperfections. Their imperfections make them better, stronger.
Remus was invincible. If he could live through lycanthropy, he could live through anything.
These thoughts only angered her more, however. That he would reduce himself in front of someone who saw him as nothing but wonderful. He would lie to one of the few people that actually saw him for what he was. A human. Not a creature but a magnificently flawed human being. âWhat did she do?â Lily asked sardonically, âBite you with her sickness? Scratch you with disease? Beat it into you?â Lily deflated slightly, angry with herself for being callous. She reached up slowly, as if not to scare him away, and touched her fingers gently to his cheekbone where a fresh wound was placed, angry and red. Her fingers were cold. Her voice was soft this time. âMarks like these donât come from sick mumâs, Lupin.â
She withdrew, sitting back in her seat and pulling her long legs up with her. She wore a small frown, her brow slightly creased in the center. She hated that they had to have this conversation. She wanted their friendship to remain simple, breezy. But seeing what she had, if she had walked away like he wanted her to it wouldâve grated on her mind and she wouldâve retreated into herself. Their fragile companionship wouldâve disappeared with her. She wanted that to happen far less than she wanted to have this conversation. The talk was the lesser of two evils. âYou can trust me, you know.â She rested her chin on her knee, her arms tucked against her stomach. âIâd never betray you, Lupin.â
As she repeated his words in her own voice, his statement rang in his head and he knew that she could see right through his flimsy lie. It was all too sloppy. Everything that he had worked so hard to keep up had come crashing down, and he felt the full weight of it on his shoulders as he tightened his hand around some of the sheets by his side, fingers twisting in the fabric nervously, his breath uneven.
âLily, I-â He had begun, but stopped as she continued, each of her words sharp and direct, and he regretted even mentioning his mother once more. She hadnât bitten him, nor any of those other horrible things. She was far too good to deserve any such accusations, and the words dug into his chest just as the claws of the wolf had just hours ago. âNo, she didnât- she wouldnât.â He refused quickly, shrinking down into himself and attempting to find an escape, shaking his head. He glanced back up and met her vivid green eyes quickly, his own filled with a deep shame and a dark sadness, one that grows over years of pain and secrecy, not easily displaced. There was no way out of the truth.
He didnât want her to know any of this, if nothing more than to protect her against it all. He had seen first hand what he had done to those who had grown close to him- the ruined and broken pieces of a family haphazardly tacked together, and the layer of lies that his friends at school had been forced to take part in each month, all in his name. Sirius, James, and Peter had even gone so far as to become illegal animagi permanently, all for his sake. It was too much, and he didnât want anyone else to feel obliged to show him pity each evening as the full moon grew near. He had always preferred to live as simply and as normal as his situation allowed, and had learned that the less attached to people he could be, the easier it was in the end.
Her hand reached forwards towards him and his eyes grew wide with the motion, drawing in a sharp intake of breath as her thin, cool fingers met his broken and scarred skin. His own hand moved up to hers in a pained motion, and gently took her hand in his own, holding it against his own face for only a short a moment before taking it away, his eyes not being able to meet hers.Â
âI think you already know, Lily. You have for a while now, I can see it in your eyes. Must I say it out loud, as well?â He asked, his breath thin and voice weary, though he attempted a broken smile, trying to muster as much confidence as he could at the moment to disguise the fact that he was so weak; he disgusted himself. His Lily, so beautiful and kind even now, as gentle as possible though she had to know the truth. The way she looked at him now, anything less was impossible. He knew that if she wished it of him, he would never speak to her again, and would promise to stay as far away from the girl as possible, just as long as he could continue to study at the school and graduate. That was all he needed, an education. He knew that he would do anything for her, trying to ignore the fact that if she made such a request it would surely break him now, and the sense of uneasiness that the entire situation brought him combined with his most recent loss of blood was enough to be dizzying. She said sheâd never betray him, but how could she make such promises if she knew what a horrible lying creature he was?
Is there anyone you model Remus after?
OOC: Due to the fact that he's a canon character, the majority of my inspiration and basis for my interpretation of Remus come from a combination of J.K. Rowling's writing and the David Thewlis' wonderful acting in the film adaptations. I love the depth that his actor added in the quiet support that he helped bring to Harry and all those around him, and the humble way that he approached each situation. I usually always try to remain as true to his origins as possible with regards to his characterization and story lines, but part of the fun with playing Marauder-Era characters is that we get to fill in the part that leads up to the current version of the person that he is later on, and what makes him who he is. This AU allows me to have even further leeway with his behaviors, as his ending is truly open as well, so there's a possibility that I could change and evolve him to follow a different path than that with which we see portrayed in the series, which is both terribly exciting and horrible at the same time. You never know what will happen.
Personally, I admit that a few of his little quirks and mannerisms may come from my own personality rubbing off in my writing without my knowledge, due to the fact that in some respects, we are quite similar in the way that we behave and interact with others. Specifically, however, there isn't anyone else that I model Remus after outside of the main storyline and my own life, but I hope that this helped to answer your question! Thank you.

i'm not joking, i'm sirius.
I believe that that one was worn out within the first mont of first year, truthfully.
You arenât going to get an answer from me, though.
since sirius won't answer, of the marauders, who has the biggest dick?
Youâre joking, right?
âAwww whaâ a way to be partâyyy poopperâ Brenton stumbled closer to Remus, still in an intoxicated state he knew that not obeying would be futile. A massive smile displayed on Brentonâs face, he slung his arm around Remus, disregarding any sort of personal space. âMy day wasss totâal ssshhit, mate. Totâal. Utter. SsShi-. Nothinâ moreee nothinâ lessss.â He recited dramatically placing his hand over his heart.
âWell my life is worthlessâŚ..How wasss your day?âÂ
Remus bowed his head down slightly as the other boy slung his arm around his shoulder, and started off in the direction of Ravenclaw towers resolutely. He wore a small smile at first, but as Brenton began to tell him about his day, it quickly faded, and a unavoidable look of concern graced his features. He didn't know how much of what he was saying was a result of the vast amount of alcohol present in his system or instead real, but found from experience witnessing others that liquor had a habit of releasing inhibitions and making people say truths they otherwise wouldn't. "Total shit? I'm sorry, that sounds awful. If you don't mind me saying, though, I don't think your life is worthless. Far from it. All of this is just the beginning, Brenton."
With a small smile back at the boy, he turned and faced ahead as they walked together. "This is definitely the most exciting thing that's happened to me all day, so I suppose that's saying something."
Everything smells like him in there, itâs wonderful. Like, if I leave something in there and then go back to get it, it just smells like him and - [breaks off and chuckles at herself] - itâs nice. I like it. [takes a deep breath and squeezes his arm again] One of these days Iâll actually get around to cleaning up. âs a fucking disaster in there.
[she squinted up at the moon with him, looking at it for a moment before turning her gaze to Remusâ face] Okay, so no werewolves, then. But will you protect me from anything else that might try and eat me? I donât fancy the idea of being a damsel in distress.
Normally people don't associate things smelling like James with the word wonderful, but I'm happy that someone enjoys it. -Remus lets out a quiet laugh with a nod.- He's quite lucky to have you. I've tried to make progress with the cleaning in the past, but the more you try, the messier it'll become. I think he does it on purpose, truthfully. It's almost easier just to leave it.
-Turning back down to face her, he smiled slightly with a tilt of his head.-Â I reckon James would kill me if I didn't bring you back just as you came, so you have my word. Besides, I don't think we should come across anything truly treacherous around these parts. Perhaps a few harmless spiders, at the most.
Yeah, well. Andrew is here finally, so I can imagine heâll be dragging me out as much as possible, but you should try and get me out and about sometime as well. Half the time I find myself in Jamesâ room, since Iâve been given all-inclusive access around the clock.
[she laughs and gently squeezes his arm] Thatâs not true! There are some very lovely⌠flowers in the safer bits. But if you insist, I suppose I trust you. You wonât let me get eaten by a werewolf or anything like that, will you?
I'll make it a point to in the future, if you'd like. That sounds brilliant.
-He smiles down at her as she talks and turns ahead to walk, but his blissful expression dims slightly at her last words, his eyes slightly darker and smile more forced.- No, I promise that you'll be just fine. Besides- it's not a full moon tonight. See? -He tilts his head upwards towards the sky to reveal a waning crescent, as opposed to the more ominous milky orb of a full moon.-

All right. If you fuck it up, I can just get Moore to punch me once more and we can try again. I believe in you, my steady-handed, prefect fellow. Merlin give you strength.
Hush, man. Iâm doing the optimism thing, and as a supportive friend, you should just go with it.
-Remus shakes his head with a bemused smile before agreeing to the terms and raising his wand.-Â Fine, we have a dealt, though I doubt that's necessary. Episky. -With a quick flourish, he points his wand up at the other boy's face and executes the spell with care.-
I think that's just right, yes.Â

"Please, please tell me what they looked likeDid they seem afraid of you? They were kids that I once knewThey were kids that I once knew"
Dead Hearts - Stars
It was the Halloween of 1965, and a flourish of warm autumn colors decorated the small lane that Remus and his mother would walk together on their way to the little schoolhouse where he was supposed to be attending a muggle preschool. His mother smiled down at him as he jumped over a rock that lined the road, dressed in one of their old sheets as a little ghost for the occasion. Though he wore a grin on his face as he adjusted the eye holes with one hand, the other hand that was clasping tightly around that of his motherâs betrayed his apparent confidence, and the women gave him a little squeeze in response that told him âItâll be alrightâ, before they hurried down the lane together, not wanting to be late for class that morning.
As they opened the wooden door together, they were greeted with a chorus of giggles from children who chased each other around, all decked out in costumes of their own for the occasion. Kathy was a princess, and Robert was Superman. Michael was cackling with joy as he spun around in his cape to chase the other kids, a pale-faced vampire complete with a touch of red running down his jaw. Remus was quiet, and stood beside his mother with one hand around her leg as the women made her usual pleasantries with the other mothers dropped their children off, each complementing each other on how cute their little girls were, or how happy each of their sons appeared.Â
âGo on, Remus.â His mother ushered as she noticed her young son still hanging by his side, tentative to run out and play with all of the other children. Bending down in front of him, she fixed the positioning of his little eye holes before speaking softly. âIâll be back to pick you up at noon, sweetie, alright? Run along, now.âÂ
He didnât run along just yet, though, instead choosing to watch by the window as she smiled back at him and turned away, waving to a few other mothers by their vehicles and then proceeding to walk back along the side of the road and towards their little house, down the lane. With his ghost-nose pressed up against the glass, the voice of a little girl by his side startled him, and he turned towards the source of the noise curiously. It was Kathy, the princess, a sweet little girl who also tended to be fairly quiet around everyone else, and she wore a funny smile as she danced around him, her hand outstretched with a glittery wand that she waved about gleefully. He smiled a bit, but only because he knew that princesses didnât have wands. His dad had a real wand, and it wasnât glittery or pink or to be waved around like that, but the sight made him happy nonetheless, and so he followed the pink girl as she trotted off to join the others in the main room, her too-big high heels clicking against the wooden floor as she went.
âRemus, what are you sâposed to be?â Robert asked as they approached, his red cape trailing the ground.Â
âIâm a ghost.â He replied quietly, tilting his head towards the other boy. âI like your Superman costume.â
âThanks.â The boy flashed back with a grin, excited to show off his new costume as he did a turn for the other kids. âItâs even got the cape- see?â
âThatâs really neat, Robbie.â Kathy chimed in, and the two children watched as Robert showed off all of the various parts of his costume, from the boots his grandma had made him, to the fact that he got to wear his underwear on the outside. After a few minutes, he even had Kathy, who adored her princess attire, wishing that her mother had made her a Superman costume instead. âMaybe my mama will make me one for next year.â She spoke with a grin as she tried on the red cape, twirling around in it and pretending to shoot off a few more spells.Â
Remus had been focused on fixing the little holes for his eyes again as footsteps were heard behind him. Suddenly, a furry pair of hands clasped onto his shoulders hard as a loud growl came up from behind, shaking him about for a moment. The boy in the costume had startled him, and as he released Remus and came forwards to show him his brilliant costume, the little boyâs eyes grew wide and the blood from his face drained quickly, his face growing as white as the sheet he was dressed him. Standing in front of him was a bigger boy dressed in a large, furry suit, complete with sharp fake teeth and red blood dripping down from his mouth, his hands raised high and eyes looking angry and mean. âLook! Iâm a big bad werewolf, Iâm going to eat you all!â He shouted tauntingly, and the other children shrieked playfully and ran away as the little boy shook his head in a crazed and wild manner, pretending to run after and bite all of the others as they tripped over each other, scattering around the room. Amidst the commotion, however, no one noticed the little ghost who hadnât moved a muscle, standing still in the rowdy classroom, tears streaming down his face as he stood paralyzed with fear, his lip quivering at the all-too familiar sight in front of him.Â
His mother had been called, but he didnât stop crying the entire time that it for her to stop what she was doing and meet him back at the school early, at the request of the nervous adult. The teacher had ushered him into the quieter waiting room, and was puzzled with concern as she did her best to placate the child, but his little shoulders shook ceaselessly, and she couldnât know what was wrong. No, he didnât want a lollipop. No, he didnât want to play with fire engine that Michael had. No, he didnât even want to have Kathy over to sit with him for a while. He wouldnât speak a word, and didnât stop shaking until his mother had rushed in and scooped him up into her arms, her tight embrace safe and warm and comforting as he cried into her shoulder, telling her that he wanted to go. She squeezed him tightly and whispered in his ear that everything was going to be okay, and that it was alright now. There was nothing to be afraid of, she was here. His little white head bobbed up and down, but refused to let up on his hold as she moved forwards to speak to the teacher and inform her that she would be taking him home for the rest of the day, and that she would be sure to call her later on so that they could chat. With a short nod, the lady dismissed them and went back to the other children, who had taken turns in pretending to be bitten by the boy in the scary werewolf costume.
Mrs. Lupin carried her son out in her arms and held him tightly for the beginning of their walk back until he murmured that he could move on his own now, if sheâd like, and she bent down and set him down on the side of the road once more with a sad smile. Standing up on little legs, the little ghost kept both hands firmly attached to his motherâs as they walked together, and she didnât ask what had happened because he didnât want to tell her. He knew that if he did, she would be sad, and he didnât like it when she was sad. He also knew that she didnât like it when he was sad, though, and so he did his best to brush away the tear stains under his eyes with some of the white sheet of his costume, and jumped the rock by the side of the road once more just to see how she smiled. He knew that he didnât want to go back there ever again, though, and after seeing how broken her little ghost had looked when she had arrived there that evening, she never made him.
Youâre going to mend my nose? Right. Tell me, if you can fix broken bones, why donât you do it on yourself after a full moon? Surely, youâre more important than my broken nose. Besides, I think it adds character.
I'm not exactly in the best state to hold a wand after a full moon- I think I'd probably botch up the job a bit, if I tried. I'm feeling just fine now, though, if you think you can trust me to give it a go.
Coming from the man who was obsessing over the shape of his pointy tongue just the other day, I'm surprised that you wouldn't want it righted back to it's classic beauty immediately, actually.
Oh, right. Schoolwork. To be honest, I havenât even been doing much of that. I just havenât felt quite myself lately, yâknow, I havenât felt quite right. So Iâve just kind of been holing myself up in my dorm, not wanting to take it out on anyone in case it bites me in the arse later.
Duly noted, Mister Prefect, sir. [she laughs and hooks her arm through his as they walk] But yeah, I love going out to the forest. If you find the right spots, itâs peaceful and just absolutely gorgeous. Of course, if you happen into the wrong spots, youâre liable to get eaten, but thatâs a different story.
I've found that doing that never works out well in the end, really. You just end up pretty miserable in your room alone, and when you do end up coming out in the end, you'll still be a bit off and it'll bite you in the arse anyways. It's been such a nice day, though, so I'm glad you're out to enjoy it.
-Remus smiles quietly and takes her arm as they walk down a path towards the woods, nodding as she speaks.- Unfortunately, the safest bits are never where you'll find anything interesting, really. They tend to go hand in hand- danger and beauty. Let's try and shoot for a happy medium?

Brenton craned his neck around to see which prefect that had gotten him this time. A wide grin showing off all his teeth started to form on his face as he saw the Gryffindor prefect. âAwwWWww REmY!â Brenton slurred, turning his whole body to face the other, and threw up his hands in the air.Â
âAhh but weâve seen each other in such a long time mate!â he exclaimed in a drunken stupor. âHow have you been? Letâs talk.â He stumbled towards the other.Â
A small smile graced the face of the prefect as he raised his eyebrows, the other boy's apparent delight at the mere sight of him contagious. The horrible nickname was common amongst the female population and the drunk one as well when conversing with him, but he knew it was useless to correct Brenton at the moment, given his drunken state. He meant well, he was sure.
"It has been a while, you're right. I'm fine, thanks." He nodded cordially, before continuing on after a short thought. "How about we catch up on our way back to the Ravenclaw tower? I can walk there with you, and you can tell me all about your day, or whatever else you'd like."
