Who is your favorit Character out of Gofushi? Megumi or Gojo?
Hmm what a hard question, Anon-san;; Can I say I like both equally-
This post contains Shibuya spoilers.
There is a draft somewhere about why I appreciate Megumi and especially the title of his character theme "Jujutsu Sorcerer, Megumi Fushiguro".
I really like series that have morally grey characters because it's realistic. It is more interesting to read and analyze. Megumi knows that his sense of justice may not be "right", but he doesn't care about that. And I mean, what can be truly right? It's a matter of perspective in the end.
To have such conviction on his own judgement requires resolve. Because, what if the person you saved is actually bad? Megumi probably has a keen perception of people. It might be interesting to see if the manga touches more upon this topic (the whole Yuuji-Megumi angst on saving someone who will kill others in the future). But it's been done already, kinda? Anyway, someone that has a good grasp on the evil of people should also be able to see the good by contrast (this is my own belief tho... sort of like how "those that are the kindest have suffered a lot" works).
When Gojou tells Megumi that he won't measure up to even Nanami, that was like damn. Because Nanami once mentioned that when the effort you're putting is sufficient, there's no reason to go beyond it. I'm not saying that's wrong, it just reminded me of Megumi at the school festival who said something among the lines of: "As long as we don't get beaten up too bad." or "As long as we don't lose too bad."
This is a negative statement if you translate it as "he won't put a lot of effort" which contrasts with Nanami who will do more when needed against Megumi who when forced might just Mahoraga lul
Maybe this isn't the right example to use;; but anyway, when he decides to break free from that mentality of not giving his all, he is able to use his domain expansion. A technique that brings forth a sorcerer's innate domain into being. I think that this innate domain requires that the sorcerer has a meaning of self since it's sort of like showing your mind in the real world. This action demands the sorcerer to have a defined sense of existence, a formalized ego (?). And that's how he became a proper (?) sorcerer. Yer a jujutsushi, Megumi.
That last paragraph was probably confusing.
He discarded his old mentality and became stronger. Changing one's ego is hard after all.
Hmm, it still feels like I'm scratching the surface. Megumi post-Shibuya and in the culling games was a highlight to me. I won't go further into this since it spoils more;; But I was cheering after Megumi when he went into badass mode ;-; that character growth.
It's ironic because he became a sorcerer for another person, and even though it wasn't out of his own volition, his character theme's title recognizes that he is a Jujutsu Sorcerer.
He is also the smart type uwu and I like how he asks questions because he just wants to confirm his own thoughts instead of being nosy (as explained by Gege in the fanbook about the chapter "A taste of things to come"). That's right, let's go in the pursuit of truth!
Have I mentioned how I approve of his rule of interaction with strangers too? It's basic decency @_@
Uhm, yeah most likely there is stuff that I haven't gone into about Megumi, but I also mentioned that I like both equally;; Even though I haven't written a Gojou appreciation draft (yet?!) so I don't have a lot of references for it. Because of that, the next section might be all over the place OTL
I have a very soft spot for those that act dumb/happy but have gone through awful stuff in the past. They've been hurt but prefer to act as if they're okay to others.
WHEN IT IS NOT. LIKE, HECK, GOJOU, YOU JUST KILLED YOUR BEST FRIEND AND YOU ACT ALL CHEERY/NORMAL IN FRONT OF YOUR STUDENTS. Bruh.
Putting up those walls to protect themselves, trying to not look weak/showing their true self in front of others. A misdirection to throw off people from what they are actually going through. Even though he is talkative, it's hard to get to know what he really thinks.
And he also had to check up on his students after the fight o_o his priorities.
He (most likely?) didn't have a good upbringing, what with being the 6E+L user after 400 years and solo carrying the Gojou clan on his back. Then he acknowledges that curse exorcism is not something that kids should go through and wishes for them to enjoy their youth (gee I wonder why). Remember how he changed the last event of the school festival to baseball? even though my shounen-loving ass wanted to see 1v1 tourn- reject jujutsushi, embrace a normal sport.
Overworked and... what hobbies? Gojou can be the best at anything he attempts, but he doesn't try so that others get an opportunity. Yeah, yeah, bragging hah, but if that's true then idk man, Gojou would not be living life, he is just existing ._. at least there are sweets and he can sightsee during work B)
Moreover, being good at anything he tries is kinda dooming.
The way he wants to change Jujutsu Society is also well thought out when compared with other propositions. I can't come up with elaborate essays so here is an interesting one. You can scroll to the last two paragraphs if it's long xd
Anyway, wanting to protect Riko's decision by fulfilling her own personal wish, the differentiation (or not) of being the strongest and Gojou Satoru (notlikethis Getou), his inability to save people despite being the strongest...
Yeah, it's kind of "funny" because his decisions lead to bad outcomes. Even though he did them because he is human after all. If they just brought Riko straight to Tengen then it (Tengen) wouldn't be going through digievolution, and maybe Kenjaku's plans would be different. But they didn't, he didn't want to, because he empathized with her.
He got sealed because he did appreciate the time when he was friends with Getou (and still considered him his friend after his defection).
Sometimes I enjoy the narratives where they characterize Gojou as someone that is akin to a god or that he isn't human, but I honestly think he is just a very weird and cringe human hahaha that's what being the 6E+L user does to a person. You grow up with high expectations placed by others. An adult that acts like a kid at 28 because he didn't have a childhood, and also, life is boring and tiresome so gotta do something fun every now and then.
Ugh the Gojou section is hard to follow >_< Anon-san, I rambled a lot, it's kinda all over the place haha;; and I didn't even answer who I like more which is strange because in other ships I have a favourite.
I like Megumi for his realistic views as a character (although he's too mature for a 15 yo) and even though he is all grumpy he truly cares about others (his gap is too good, I'm all for gaps), and I like Gojou because he is a complicated character. In the end, gofushi is truly a pair for me...
Ah gofushi >w< Megumi acts old for his age and Gojou acts young for his age, because of the way they grew up LOL (prob shouldn't be laughing about bad childhoods o_o)
All of this is based on my own thoughts so others with different views on the characters can disagree with what I wrote.
Thank you very much for the ask, Anon-san! The answer it's.. uuh kinda long I think;; Now I wonder which character people like out of gofushi? I'm quite interested in the why's owo
