I wanna draw the depression robe
If You believe hard enough and are pure of heart, Spencer can be on a depression robe off-screen in every second of the Revival 🥺 he only came out for Will's funeral because he felt he was needed, but then went back to his cave.
I know you mean it like. That’s how he is outside of work but at first i read this as ‘it’s what he does 100% of the time off screen in the revival’ and therefore he has some elaborate scheme going on where he has a fake job and hired a guy to play his fake supervisor that the BAU called.
But joking aside he… well his hair looked like he just got out of the depression robe and jumped into a suit indeed. Hmm I’ll be rotating this idea in my mind like a rotisserie chicken because I am pure of heart.
I love putting Spencer in situations. Particularly those where he looks ready to cry softly on the dark, lonely confines of his room because he is too scared to be percieved ever ❤️
The post-Maeve death isolation in his depression robe was delicious for that reason ❤️

Reid mimicking how Gideon positions his legs then goes to also mimic the position of his arms but feels self-conscious at the last moment so he crosses them instead.
Thinking a lot about pre-BAU Reid and Gideon again
Okay we talk a lot about Morgan's deeply unhelpful advice to Reid in 2x16 when Reid confides that he's traumatized by the whole Tobias experience and keeps seeing himself in the photos of crime scene victims because that was almost him. We talk about how empathy is never something Spencer Reid has lacked. But can we talk for a second about how really fucked up Derek Morgan's week has been when he gives that advice?
He's a biracial (non-passing) ex-cop, son of a black cop, tossed into a case that's a racial powder keg. He tries to stay out of that and go with the profile instead of the delicate racial dance. We know he hates when cases get political. We know he tends to stick to the sidelines on cases with a racialized component. He and the black detective go out to 'do real police work' - read: get out of the station where Gideon is fighting with the white chief and mayor about whether a profile can include race, all while the pastor (who Morgan has no love for in general) makes proclamations about how the FBI only cares once a white boy gets killed. It's pretty clear he sees similarity between himself and the detective: black men in law enforcement who are really sick of being asked to represent something, who just want to be judged by the work they do and the content of their character.
And then the detective is shot and killed in front of him because a white guy - whose family was *never* in danger, since the UnSub was only going after black teenage girls - saw a black man and assumed "that's the bad guy!" and took it upon himself to shoot him. A black cop, shot and killed by a white guy, leaving young kids behind.
Who's that sound like? How many times has Derek stood over that body before?
How many times has he been assumed to be the UnSub or the bad guy in general because he's a 6' tall black man in a world that makes assumptions? He was in juvie when he was freaking 11 years old because of a racist cop who keeps climbing the ranks and recently arrested him for murder. He was identified as a potential killer by his freaking *boss*, the same guy back at the station arguing in favor of putting race in the profile.
How does he keep moving forward? How does he keep showing up and doing his job - a job he believes in, but also a job where he gets used as bait for racists a lot more often than he should? How does he "pull himself out of the gutter"? How does he keep from pummeling pedophiles into the dirt?
He tells takes the terrible shit he never should have needed to go through, and he lets it make him better. A better person. A better profiler. A more precise, more insightful, more empathetic, stronger person. He embraces "that which does not kill me makes me stronger" and tries to channel it into something useful, because the alternative is to let it fester and turn into anger and resentment and he knows that won't serve him.
So when Reid admits he's struggling...so is Morgan, that week. For the past two months, really, since Chicago. And he gives the only advice he can, the only thing that's gotten him through all the bullshit. The only thing he can tell himself after watching a good black cop get killed by some paranoid white moron and leave behind a little boy: turn this awful feeling into something positive.
It's not helpful for Reid at all, especially not the implication that he isn't empathetic enough. But it's giving the kid the only answer Morgan has that week.
Agree. Story-wise I like when characters respond to situations in a flawed way that reveals interesting things about them, hence why I always think fondly of Reid's delusional "Elle he's dead! You won!!"
At first when Morgan said the "use it to become a better profiler/person" line, I was just like « …what?» but once I reached a certain point in the show, I came to really appreciate this scene because of what it says about Morgan, how this is his own mantra that helped him survive and how he wrongly thinks it’s helpful.
It also is the testament to their dynamic at this point in time, of two people who might love each other but don’t quite understand what the other needs.
I can think of another moment in the Adam episode of S4 where Morgan tries to comfort Reid, then immediately switches up when Reid tries to talk about Tobias positively and ends up saying « You’re going to have to accept that you can’t save everyone. »
Now I see this S2 scene as the beginning of a long setup that pays off during their last moment in Entropy. Time and time again, Reid might have looked up to him for answers, and sometimes he gets it right and sometimes wrong, and Morgan at that moment finally understands that he doesn’t have to have the answers, that what Reid needs from him is to know how much he is loved by him.

@snarkylinda please say more 🎤 (if you wish)
Baby Spencer that was always shy and reserved and insecure about how thin he was he wore a millón sweaters and soon found out the pressure helped him feel secure. Like a tight Hug.
Baby Spencer whose's clothes were violently tear out of him and recieved pure mockery for it, as he was too confused to understand what he did wrong.
Older Spencer that slowly gained some confidente in himself as those around him stopping being a full on threat.
Until they were again.
Spencer who constantly wore his mom's Cardigan whenever he needed confort.
Spencer who was violated 1, 2, 3 times and decided the soft sweater has to stay at Home. He is an seasonated Agent and has to look crisp at all times, regardless of the weather.
Spencer who had to undress in front of other men for three months, and thus never felt quite secure on his own shower aftermath.
aaaaa if he looks too thin someone might be concerned and call his mom and he cannot have that happen > goalpost incident > Diane > Cat > Prison. truly a lifetime of associating undressing with trauma
