Eli normally pushed away, but he felt like heâd been pushing his father away too much, hurting his poor father in a way. All because he was still a little scared. It was so dumb when he actually thought about it because his father had never once in his life hurt him. So Eli snuggled in and held his father tighter, enjoying the warmth.
âYes I have, dad.â He unsnuggled his head from his fatherâs chest. âI kept taking the jeep when you kept telling me over and over to not. I kept acting like an ass to you becauseâŚ.because I was still kinda scared of you and you also wouldnât give me answers.â Eliâs lowered as he spoke and eventually he hid his face in the older wolfâs chest. âI havenât been nice to you.â
Derek understood that being a teenager meant that Eli would often not want him around, wouldnât come to him with everything. But god heâd wanted his son to come to him with anything, to ask him for help with something so he didnât feel like a failure. Like raising Eli had been another to his ever mounting failures. But Eli snuggled in and Derek didnât let himself worry, just held his son tight, like Eli would fade away if he didnât hold on.
âItâs okay. I understand it. Teenagers act out, itâs just. Part of being a teenager.â Derek sighed softly, rubbing soothing circles into his sonâs back, trying to reassure him. âI know I scared you. And Iâm sorryâŚI just couldnât lose more family because I wasnât paying enough attention, because they got in and-â Derek trailed off, cradling the back of Eliâs head. âI forgive you Eli. I want you to trust me but I wasnât doing the best at being someone that you felt like you could trust.â
A few sniffles could be heard from Eli as he snuggled even more, his grip growing tighter as he listened to his father talk. The soothing voice that use to read to him when he was young. Something he always loved until the day he got scared of his father. He hated that he had pushed him away like that over something so stupid.
He poked his head out as green eyes looked at hazel ones. "Then we can work on that. Teach me how to drive properly even learn how to fix the Jeep myself so you can trust me to drive it and not worry about me."
