Happy Friday. With all the bleak stuff happening, I long for an escape like this.

First proper drawing since appendectomy and flu. Slowly getting strength back again

My one souvenir from Taormina, Sicily, is this 3-hour watercolour painting. Unfinished due to holiday distractions.

Honoured to have Maryland Institute College of The Arts create an award in my name. I decided to call it the Lilian Darmono Heart Award, the recipient will get a bit of cash I got from my guest lecture sessions that I donated back to the college. The winner is Lauren Puglisi (www.laurenpuglisi.com) with her short film 'Better Daze'. A poignant little tale of the 'jackpot-machine' quality of life itself sometimes. This is the image I made that the college printed to present with the award certificate. I hope she is pleased with it! Her short can be watched here: https://vimeo.com/163905380

New painting done. Flowers painted from life, the rest are made up. With brushes and watercolour block from Dubois Beaux Arts shop in Paris, and paint from CASS ART Soho !

I am both#Indonesian and #Chinese, so here is something that reflects both heritage in one picture. The lush tropical plants is Indonesian, the peaches and clouds and arabesques is distinctly #oriental. It's quite special to celebrate it here, finally legal, and starting to feel that the racial tension between the Chinese and the non-Chinese Indonesians is mostly behind us. Good riddance indeed

Tonight is an experiment in time travel. As I sit here in my childhood home, doodling pretty ladies in elegant dresses, I managed to be six year old again, doing exactly the same thing, thirty years ago.
