A while back a guy friend asked me if I wanted a boyfriend. When I said no and he asked me why, I explained that I’m focusing on myself, and he asked me what that meant, and here’s what I tried to say:

Energy is precious, and losing energy to toxic people is draining and a waste of your potential. When you’re focusing on yourself it doesn’t mean you’re shutting people out or being a loner, it just means that you keep a small circle of people you love, and you shut out the toxic people. And you know what?

You don’t need to fucking please anyone. You are you and this is your life. You don’t have to interact with people who bring you down. You don’t need to interact with people who drain your energy. 

This year I’m working towards my goals. I’m ofc going to talk to people, be friendly, but I’m not going to waste my energy arguing with toxic people, I’m not going to start crying if a guy I like doesn’t like me back. This year I’m working towards my goals, not working on high school drama. (Also I’m leaving my school after this year so I really don’t care)
