When I was young and stupid and hanging out at my friends apartment for the first time to study, I got really confused as to why he only had a couch in his room and not a bed

Chat, it was the living room. It was the living room in the apartment. That he shared with his girlfriend. Because they were, in fact, sleeping in the same bedroom together, a concept that didn't even occurr to me until long after I left
