Can I just say that the theme for His Dark Materials is absolutely amazing? The melody, the key changes, the counter melody, the way it goes with the opening credits, the drama, the everything. It is just a wonderful piece of music and I can’t stop thinking about it so here we are.

Let’s just go straight to the key changes because I have Thoughts:

The song is in C minor, but at the bridge it goes to Eb major (the relative major to C minor). The bridge is all calm and happy, and then, bam, you’re back in C minor and there’s a little extra spicy drama in there. Then it changes (to an unknown key, but definitely minor) and there’s even more tension. Which kinda fits with the story. Lyra’s just a kid, but there’s so much ahead of her.
