I love birdwatchers they’re like “I just saw my ALL TIME FAVORITE BIRD SPECIES! I’ve always dreamed of seeing one in the wild! I am ECSTATIC!” and it’s the most boring looking little brown bird you’ve ever seen.
And I’m watching the video like “whoaaaa what’s it going to be! woodpecker? red-headed woodpecker? eastern whip-poor-will? northern mockingbird? it’s a Bachman's sparrow? oh, okay. neat.”
I feel like I need to show you a Bachman’s sparrow for this post to truly land.
Oooooh the most bird ever.
omg this is so me my favourite bird is the short-toed treecreeper and.
like. yea...
I’m sorry to admit this and I would never do it in real life because I have an immense respect for wildlife and specifically the delicate nature of birds. That is the most grabbable animal I have ever seen. It looks free for the taking.
Ospreys have a very unique hunting structure, it’s really cool. Every other fishing raptor will skim the surface, snagging a fish off the top. An osprey folds it’s wings and dives into the water. They grip their fish with huge, zygodactyl feet like an owl.
They’re the only non-owl raptor with these feet.
Sometimes they snag a fish too big and they can’t release their grip. These birds are unfortunately dragged under to a watery grave.
i implore you all to look at the waterlogged project on inaturalist. check this shit out

Document them, but Soggy
lahore pigeons are some of the most visually appealing birds out there. like in terms of visual design. very minimalist, good contrast.
Too bad Lahore pigeons are a domestic breed and don’t appear in the wild at all. Some equally balanced wild colorations include
Pygmy Falcon
Great Hornbill
Wallcreeper
and
Black-throated Loon
this is a good addition to this post. thank you for this birds educations
I would like to submit the following additions to the world of exceptional bird color design:
Cedar Waxwing
Red Crowned Crane
Brahminy Kite
Green Tree Swallow (I mean seriously - those are metallic teal feathers against stark white. Damn.)
Bali Mynah
And, last but certainly not least, the cutest fucking puffball on this planet earth:
The Korean Crow-Tit
I’d also like to contribute some pretty awesome birds
Hooded Pitta (or as like to call them little olives)
Coua
Mot-Mot
The Blue Crown Pigeon (the biggest pigeon)
good post

I’m fond of the Golden Breasted Starling,
the Golden Pheasant,
and the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher.

May I present the most fabulous turkey in the world, the Ocellated Turkey?
@poisonedapples
They’re all immensely pretty
@todaysbird
I wish to add the European Golden Plover
The Arctic Tern
The Atlantic Puffin
And the Eurasian Oystercatcher

Cunty little thing isnt it
me: man i sure wish i could view images on a digital screen using an efficient 24-bit color display
the nefarious RGB tri-color LEDs:

me: man i sure wish there was a way to replicate digital images on physical mediums rather than with light, using subtractive mixing
the nefarious CMYK inks:
Behold the dazzling Australian Rufous Fantail (Rhipidura rufifrons)! Found in parts of southern and eastern Australia, this bird can be spotted in woodlands, rainforests, and wetlands. It’s an insectivore that darts rapidly through the air to catch fast-moving prey. It’s easily recognizable thanks to its signature tail fan, which is found on males and females and grows more vibrant in color as the bird matures.

I work at a wildlife rehab and I get tons of crap bird photography every day! This is one of our permanent residents, Holly, a brown pelican Pelecanus occidentalis sassing me for not letting her play with my shoelaces.
(Hopefully easily identifiable birds are allowed)
My friend did such beautiful work on me today <3

imagine being a bird watching hot ones. you'd be like "wtf is 'hot sauce,' peppers don't do that" bc you don't have the neural receptors that cause a burning sensation if your tissues come in contact with capsaicin; you can stick your whole head in a ghost pepper no problem, so you'd think, wow these bald apes are full of shit they are faking a whole big physiological response to normal food for entertainment. weird. and then you'd be like wait, what are they eating? what are they eating?
come on
this is fucked up
something about this bird just unlocked something insane in scientists’ heads
this is unlocking something insane in my head to be fair
