I mean, absolutely nothing against the name (!!!), I was just genuinely confused. 😅 Like, I know that Beth is short for Bethany or Cata short for Catalina but somehow I never thought that Jess is the short form of something too. 😂

It’s an absolute disgrace how the vast majority of women national team games is still not being broadcast internationally. Not even on paid streaming services. The only two games available in Germany during this international window were the two Germany games. Not even the Spain vs. England matchup was streamed, despite it clearly being one of the most important games in this qualification round. I’m so tired of watching shitty streams on shady websites with three VPNs, commentated on in a language I do not speak at all. Didn’t you claim to become the home of women’s football, DAZN? How about starting with international games? We would even pay for it.

Hallo. Ich bin ein neuer Frauenfußball-Fan und mich würde sehr interessieren, wie MVT als Trainerin war. Ich sehe die ganze Zeit, wie Leute sie haten, und ich habe mir auch die Doku zur WM angeschaut. Allerdings habe ich das Gefühl, dass mir noch einige Informationen fehlen. Könntest du vlt. mehr über sie erzählen? Und vlt den Kobtrast zwischen MVT und Horst, Wück
Fangen wir mal mit den “Fakten” an:
- Im Gegensatz zu Horst und Wück war MVT keine Abstellung aus dem Männerfußball. Im Gegenteil. Als sie zur Nationaltrainerin berufen wurde, konnte sie (als Trainerin) bereits zwei DFB-Pokale mit Duisburg vorweisen und hatte die Schweizer Nationalmannschaft zu ihrer ersten WM Teilnahme überhaupt geführt. Gleichzeitig hatte sie auch da schon einige turbulente Vertragssituationen hinter sich (bei Duisburg wurde sie nach drei Jahren beurlaubt, ihren Vertrag mit Jena kündigte sie nach nur sieben Monaten). Die Verpflichtung hat auf jeden Fall Aufsehen erregt.
- MTV war zudem auch selbst eine sehr erfolgreiche Spielerin. Sechs deutsche Meistertitel & vierfache Europameisterin! Ihre Zeit mit der Nationalmannschaft endete allerdings abrupt nach einem Streit mit ihrer damaligen Teamkollegin & Partnerin Inka Grings. Das Ganze wurde bei MVTs Verpflichtung 2018 auch nochmal aufgerollt. Also alles etwas chaotisch.
- Als Nationaltrainerin war sie nicht unerfolgreich. Bei der WM 2019 schied Deutschland zwar im Viertelfinale gegen Schweden aus (2:1) hatte bis dahin allerdings alle Spiele ohne Gegentor gewonnen. Bei der EM 2022 schaffte sie es mit dem Team ins Finale. Zuvor hatte es auch bei der Qualifikation hier nur ein einziges Gegentor gegeben!
- Abwärts ging es dann mit der WM 2023. Deutschland schied nicht nur in der Vorrunde aus, im Nachhinein wurde auch viel Kritik laut. Der WM-Kader sei zu spät bekannt gemacht worden (gegenüber den Spielerinnen). Entscheidungen seien nicht immer transparent gewesen. Generell habe es an einer offenen Kommunikation gefehlt. Das Team habe sich zudem ausgelaugt gefühlt.
- Dazu kam dann die ganze Krankengeschichte. MVT war praktisch von einem auf den anderen Tag nicht mehr da & es herrschte generell extrem viel Verwirrung. Insbesondere, als ihr erster öffentlicher Auftritt dann nicht beim DFB, sondern bei irgendeiner Zahnärzteversammlung war.
So viel zu den Fakten. Nun zu meinen persönlichen Eindrücken.
- MVT war durchaus oft kritisch, hat aber in der Regel keine einzelnen Spielerinnen herausgepickt wie Wück. Zumindest kann ich mich daran nicht erinnern.
- Sie schien (abgesehen vom Schluss) sehr eng mit den Spielerinnen zu sein. Das Team war wirklich ein Team. Ein bisschen wie unter Horst, aber mit stabileren Resultaten.
- Ihr Fußball-IQ ist an sich extrem hoch. Als Expertin überzeugt sie eigentlich immer.
