Love Me Do yo!
The Light in the Nlytak - CH 1- The Stranger, by Katlyn
âNlytak! Are you even listening to me!â her voice was in an octave higher than usual.
âNo⌠I was not⌠âI sat up straight in my desk. She scowled at me, it looked like I was in for it now. However I knew something about this teacher, which I could use against her.
âI am sorry Ms. D⌠I was lost in the reflections of lights cascading from those beautiful emerald eyes of yoursâŚâ I spoke slowly and passionately while never losing eye contact. She took a couple steps back away from me. The expression of terror rose upon her face. That something that I knew about this teacher was that, Ms. D was a homophobe.
She looked at me then quickly turned away. The entire class was staring me. I gave a smile over to Carrie, a girl who sat in the back of the class. She had bottle blonde wavy hair that reached to her shoulders, and sweet brown eyes that watched you like a little girl watches a princess, with admiration and envy. Carrie was one of the few people in this world who I considered a friend. Sure I have my fair share of friendly acquaintances, but only had two real companions. And at this very moment she was silently congratulating me on creeping out the teacher. I cocked my head as a sign of pride, then Carrie mouthed the words;
âBet you canât make her cry.â she gave a smug little smile. I returned to her by mouthing;
âJust watchâ I turned around to face the front of the classroom. Now I know thatâs not what âgoodâ girls do⌠but you donât Ms. D, like I know Ms. D. Despite her beautiful eyes, the woman had a horrible personality, or rather she simply hated meâŚThen out of now where, a girl with long brown hair, like milk chocolate said aloud.
âDonât worry, Ms. D, Iâm sure she was only joking.â Her voice was artificial, a voice purely looking for approval and affection. Ms. Dâs face relaxed and she sighed in relief. Even though it was true, I was simply playing with her to get out of detention... But for this girl to simply assume it was a joke, was unforgivable.
âI see, so it was a joke. Ha, ha, Nlytak you got me.â She said while trying to laugh it off. I put on my best heartbroken expression, I tried to remember when the court took in favor of my mother and had to pry me away from my father. A couple of tears ran down my face as I stared at Ms. D.
âFirst you reject my feelings, and now you laugh at themâŚâ I wiped away my tears. I could tell Ms. D was restricting herself from placing her hand on my shoulder. It was true I was now making a scene, but I felt it was necessary for I had work after classes today. Ms. D let out a small sigh and swallowed her fears.
âNlytak, if you desire you may leave early today and regain your composureâŚâ Her usage of uncommon words was a telltale sign of her embarrassment. I agreed to Ms. Dâs proposal and left. As I exited through the back door I shot Carrie a look of self-satisfaction, Carrie scoffed.
As I walked past the countless classrooms, trying to get to my locker, I peered into the classrooms. I saw all those girls with perfect styled hair, beautiful makeup, and fancy clothes. I looked down at myself, I wore black jeans with sliver chains that dangled from the pockets and belt, a green and black plaid flannel, a pair of white high tops, and my socks didnât even match. Itâs true that I really donât fit in here at this school, my appearance and attitude was of the un-norm . I opened my locker and retrieved my books and bag.
I worked in a little antique shop near my house. It was located in a split building and share it with a bookstore and a clothes department. I made my way into the old place, the interior was set up in a renaissance theme, with shelving along the walls. Upon each shelf and cabinet were old items such as; porcelain dolls, clocks, antique knifes, and so on⌠the name of the shop was Madam Sinclairâs Antiques, and the shop was run by Mr. and Mrs. Sinclair. They were an elderly couple in their late sixties, who I have known ever since I my mother brought me to this town.
This was the place I ran into when it started to rain, when I was running away from home five years ago. It was Mrs. Sinclair who gave me comfort that day. She told me that if I ever needed anything or to talk to someone, her door was always open. In addition to her compassion for me she gave me a charm bracelet. It had three charms upon it; A circle, a pair of wings, and a star. Each charm had a symbol engraved on the back, however no matter how many different languages of current and ancient I look at, none matched the symbols on the charm bracelet. And when I asked Mrs. Sinclair about it, she responded that she didnât know what the symbols were either. But then again Mrs. Sinclair is also starting to forget who she even is, so I guess I canât really expect her to remember something so trivial.Â
Then when I turned fourteen Mr. Sinclair asked me to work at the shop with them, of course I agreed. So ever since then I have worked every day after school from three till nine in the shop.
I walked to the front desk to see Mr. Sinclair standing there with his usual stern face.
âNlytak, Why are you here early? Arenât you supposed to be school right now?â his voice had a scratch in it as he spoke.
âI creeped out the teacher, so she told me to leave early.â I said while placing my bag under the desk. He turned to look at me with great puzzlement.
âWhat did you do?â he spoke slowly, trying to intimate me. I sighed and looked at him. His grey hair was trimmed to the T, his brown eyes wouldnât lose eye contact with mine, I could see his pack of cigarettes poking out from his dress shirt, and his pants had white paint on them as if he just got back from painting the back room.
âI told her, that I loved her⌠more or less.â I said while tying my long black hair back into a tight bun.
âYou like⌠woman?â he asked, a bit nervously.
âNo, I was just messing with her.â I said with a smile. He shook his head in a form of relief.
âYou know whatâs wrong with you? You lie way too much.â He wore an air of superiority while he spoke. I rolled my eyes.
âAnd you donât?â I said while leaning up against the desk.
âI just tell stories, it ainât my fault if people believe me.â He said in a defensive manner. There was a brief moment of silence.
âSo, isnât it Mrs. Sinclairâs birthday today?â I asked trying to change the touchy subject. He smiled and agreed with me.
âYeah, Iâm taking her to dinner tonight.â He said happily. âAlso I have to go into town to get her present, so I was gonna ask you to watch the shop tonight and lock up when youâre done.â
I smiled at him, âOf course Mr. Sinclair, itâll be my pleasure.â And with that the old man left the shop.
I held the key in my hand, the edges dug deep in my hand as I closed my fingers over my palm. I placed the key in my pocket and held my station. The shop verily ever got any customers, and I was under the impression that the Sinclairâs used the shop as a hobby. I stood in the empty shop with nothing to do but listen to my own thoughts. Â Then the sound of a small bell brought me back to reality. A man or possibly a woman stood in the entrance. They wore a large black cloak with a hood. It was next to impossible to determine their gender.
âWelcome, if you need any help just ask.â I said sweetly. The stranger made their way over to me, as he moved a long silver braid fell out of his hood. It shimmered like it was made of real silver. He stood in front of me, and I yet still couldnât determine his gender. His face could have been seen as a baby face man or a masculine woman. He wore no makeup, his eyebrows where un cosmetic and his bangs reached down to his chin. The bangs caused a shadow upon his face, so I couldnât see his eyes, but I had the feeling he was making eye contact.
âMay I help you.â I asked as kindly as I could. What is someone like this doing here? I know Iâm not supposed to judge people on their looks, but this man or woman for that matter doesnât seem like they want to buy something. But why would someone want to rob an antique shop? I mean we verily make any money at all here. We only get like one customer a week⌠why in the world would an intimidating person like this come here?
âActually yes, You wouldnât happen to be Nlytak (night), would you?â his voice could be categorized as a high male voice or a deep female.
How does this person know me? Â I gained composure and asked, âAnd why exactly are you looking for her?â he smiled and continued.
âI need to give her something.â He reached across and took hold of my hand. His hand was warm and soft, as if he had never worked with his hands before. He held my hand palm to palm, then his hand slowly got hotter and hotter itâll it started to burn. I retracted my hand.
âWhat was that?â I asked while rubbing my hand. He gave a small bow.
âMiss Nlytak, I cannot wait till our next encounter.â And with a smile he turned and left the shop. I grasped my hand and I could hear my very own heart beating.
The Light in the Nlytak - Prologue, By Katlyn
How can you tell the difference between reality and dream? Is it the lack of senses? Do you even calculate that into the equation while you sleep? I believe that in this large unforgiving world the line between the two is very thin. People have always told me to go after my dreams, and when I do they scream at me to get back to reality. Surely I am not the only one who is confused by this... So tell me what is more important, this reality of pain and hardships that is supposed to reward you at the end, or the land created just for you a place where anything is possible. My mind tells me to never journey to a point where the make-believe is my highest priority. However it is also my mind that creates the lands of dreamâŚ
This is so much fun XD

Towers and Trees, and Other Things
SIT THE FUCK DOWN AND BUCKLE YOURSELF IN BECAUSE ANNIKA, KATHLEEN AND I JUST CAME BACK FROM THE BEST NIGHT EVER AND YOU'RE IN FOR A RAMBLE. OKAY so today we all rose and shone and headed out to the Nanaimo area to do some shit i.e. SEE TOWERS AND TREES AMONG OTHER THINGS BUT SHIT. We went up there and listened to music on the way and it wasn't very exciting or eventful. We got some salted caramel hot chocolates. Then dad and I dropped Annika and Kathleen off at Woodgrove and dad and I went to get me an iphone. I got a white one with a turqoise (pronounced turk-woz) case and it is THE whitest girl phone ever. So THEN we headed back and Kathleen and I got haircuts!!! They were at these two side-by-side salons in the mall and they were at the same time to Kathleen did her thing and Annika and I did mine. My hairdresser was super cool though. We talked about music and he told us about his friend's band who opened for "The Hip" and told me I was bold and called me "love" in an endearing way. Also my hair is rad as fuck. So after I got mine we went next door to Kathleen and her hairdresser said mine was "so rad" and said she loved side cuts on girls AWWWWW. And when Kathleen and I were talking about our new hair she asked if we felt "liberated." Which we did. FAST FORWARD TO TOWERS AND TREES OH MY GOD. OKAY so we got there and were STOKED LIKE A FIRE. It was a sit-down show which was kind of disappointing but SHIT it was amazing. Rolla Olak played first and it was just him with a guitar and harmonica and this other guy named Johnny (or Jimmy or some other name like that, I can't remember) 99 who was playing this slide guitar-esque thing. He wasn't bad, but it was a bit too mellow for me. Throughout his set these little four-year-olds were running around and dancing, and for the last song he invited Towers and Trees AND the little kids on stage to join him and play random percussion instruments. I DON'T EVEN LIKE KIDS BUT IT WAS THE CUTEST THING EVER. AND THEN. TOWERS AND TREES. FUCK YEAH. They opened with We're Not Islands which I like but it isn't my faaavourite song of theirs. BUT THEY ADDED IN ANOTHER VERSE THAT WASN'T ON THE ALBUM VERSION AND IT WAS AMAZING. They also played this "gospel" sounding song that Adrian (the singer) (who was wearing THE tightest pants ever like holy shit where did he put everything) wrote for a friend that passed away, but he said it was about the fact that the friend had finally ended his suffering which was good. At one point they sampled All These Things That I've Done and EVERYONE broke out into "I'VE GOT SOUL BUT I'M NOT A SOLDIER" AND IT WAS AMAZING. The show was in a super small intimate venue and the chairs were separated into two clusters. We were in the third row on the left, right beside the aisle. For Wandering Ivy they all came down in between the aisles and jammed so Kathleen and Annika and I got up and tried to dance but it didn't work out at all and it was super embarrassing but whatever. We tried. At some point the young and/or enthusiastic people in the crowd moved right up in front of the stage to dance and whatever. I think it was during Devil on the Highway that a young and enthusiastic hipster do si do'd with me. UNSOLICTED DANCING WITH A STRANGER. I bet it was the side cut. They ended up playing every song from their EP which was AMAZING. And for their encore, they were introducing the song as a cover, and then they said it was from a band from Victoria, and then they said that band had won the Peak Performance Project before. I swear to god, with each hint Annika and I clung to each other tighter and I was almost peeing because THEY FUCKING MEANT I WANT A BIRD. At this point I was jumping up and down and freaking out and the guitarist pointed at me all like, "heyyy, you like Current Swell I guess." Then Annika and I sang out hearts out. It was SO great. At the end we were sweaty as fuck. I didn't take any pictures though because, in the words of Nate Ruess circa 2007, "pictures only prove you cant convince." Also, I'm lazy. THIS IS WHEN SHIT GETS REAL. There was this line for merch and whatnot and before we could introduce ourselves Adrian literally said to us "You're from Ucluelet, right?" FUCK. GUYS. THEY RECOGNIZED US. I DIDN'T EVEN TWEET THEM THAT DAY OR ANYTHING. And then they were all, "Oh and you're Current Swell fans! Haha" and then "Oh they're ALSO Archers fans!" HOW WOULD THEY KNOW THAT THOUGH? Unless they creeped my twitter or something. THEN we were talking about Otalith and I told them about Brad's song and we introduced ourselves and shook hands with Adrian and stuff. Then they said something to which I automatically responded "aww shucks" and they laughed and we got download cards and said thanks for being rad and they said thanks for coming and oh gosh they're such sweeties. Then we went to Tim Horton's at 11pm and we were on that concert high and the lady was having a good time and called us adorable and then on the way home we sang obnoxiously loud THE WHOLE TIME. Oh gosh it was literally SUCH a good day. Like I seriously feel like a whole new woman! Anyway yeah it's late now, so night y'all. Yours, Vicky

Hello Aqulia! This is what happens when i'm up at 2am and have access to a computer :P
 ~FuzzyMcStripperBoots
Dear Aquila,
It's totally not 1 am and I certainly did not just buy $70.00 worth of books on a whim. And I most certainly did not just spend the last 10 minutes creeping your new friends facebook pages. Because that would be weird. And we all know that I'm not weird in the least. Completely normal and not creepy. Yup, that's me.
ANYWAY THEY KEEP COMMENTING ON YOUR POSTS AND I GOT REALLY EXCITED AND SHIT AND ALSO KIND OF SAD AND I SHOULD REALLY BE SLEEPING RIGHT NOW BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW I'M GOING TO BE LATE FOR SCHOOL TOMORROW IF I DON'T BUT COOL YOU HAVE FRIENDSÂ
Sincerely, Isla
Aquila, You were the rock that held down our papers, and now that you're gone, those papers are flying around the room.

Here's my insanity for you
    Katlyn Cortes
As the cold water fell upon my back, I watched the remainders of last night wash down the drain. A thousand thoughts race through my mind, everyone about him. How bleak were his eyes, how I could see his euphoria slowly vanishing. Why did it have to be him, who saw me in such a state? We were so content together, however my sick addiction left us in ruins. I truly did not wish to have this obsession, for a while I had no choice in the matter. At a young age I was trained to love the sweet smell of it all. I knew that if I had fallen for him, he would also be a part of my grand out fall. I knew this, but still I sub came to my own selfish heart.
