On the one hand, I can't help but be grateful to have a husband who fed the child supper, played with her and bathed her, emptied the dishwasher, and tidied up. Wondering how it happened that I have such a simultaneous fondness for light-colored textiles, black cats, and a blind guy who enjoys coffee and red wine plus walking around our apartment super fast while drinking them.

Mike was taking our 2 cats in for their routine checkups at the vet and called the DC paratransit service to arrange a ride there and back.

Attendant: Do you use any mobility devices?

Mike: Yes, I use a white cane.

Attendant: Will anyone be traveling with you, sir?

Mike: Yes, my cats.

Attendant: ...your cats? Are they... your... service animals, sir?

Mike (what I wish he said): Yes, I have seeing eye cats.

Mike (actual): That would be a definite no.

I had late office hours, so Mike worked from home and at the end of the day went to collect Junior from school. Then he fed her supper, talked about how her day was, gave her a bath, helped her get ready for bed, and tucked her in. <3

And then for his grand finale nearly gave me a heart attack when I walked quietly into our dark home and laid my bag down on what turned out to be him as he sat at the dining table in the dark, enjoying a beer and listening to an audio book. :-O

A few tense moments boarding the bus to Georgetown where Mike thought the driver was being some kind of jerk and the driver thought Mike was being a real wise guy. (In hindsight we have no idea why this card was in his wallet...)
