film parallels - Get Out (2017) vs Obsession (2026)

you can see a clear difference in Claudia's eyes and in the way she carries herself in these two gifs. In the first gif, you can see an innocence there - a daughter who still looks up to her fathers and is guided by them. You can see Louis and Lestat leading her out of the house, and in this episode, Claudia narrates with a certain naiveté of a child as she observes Louis and Lestat, her new guardians. This naiveté soon disappears as time goes on. In the second gif, which is from the last episode of season one, you can see that Claudia is more aged - she is determined, and she is rightfully ready for revenge, ready to do what Louis was not able to. She is the leader now, with the knowledge that she is only really able to rely on herself. She is no longer being guided as she is as seen in the top gif. Rather, she is the one guiding.

From one of my favorite childhood book series, A Series of Unfortunate Events. A great series for a kid like me who loved gloomy stories and dark plot lines, even then! I credit this series as part of why I love dark comedies now. The show was amazing - genuinely it was like the books came to life! I loved Patrick Warburton as Lemony Snicket and the wonderfully melancholic way each episode started - just like the books, each episode had a dedication from the fictional Lemony Snicket to Beatrice, his one true love, complete with a slightly eerie tune over the sound of the typewriter.
