To begin our series of interviews with Liberal Democrat members, the (newly re-elected) Chair of Liberal Youth Tom Wood describes his life as a Liberal Democrat.

i. Why did you originally join the Liberal Democrats? 

I grew up with very progressive values and wanted to get active in politics and the more I did the more I felt that Labour did represent the left but the Lib Dems seemed to fit with my views exactly, and two issues made me take the step and join: tuition fees and the Iraq war

ii. If you actively campaign what has been your favourite experience so far and do you have any tips for future campaigners?

I worry about the 'if' in that question! We should all campaign!  Without doubt the best experience was election night in the recent local elections, I was working in Portsmouth and three months of exhaustion paid off when we held every seat and took three off the Tories!

iii. The coalition government is just over two years old, what has been your proudest moment so far for the coalition?

Despite supporting reform to the House of Lords, Ed Miliband wants to oppose reform so it will 'make the Lib Dems look bad'. Tell him differently!
