he's not too sure if this is exactly what you'd call a prize. but truth be told, wenjun would much rather be cleaning than preparing dinner. he isn't exactly the most skilled chef out there and the thought of accidentally giving another person food poisoning from his lack of talent scared him. that and well – he doesn't think he's terrible at cleaning.
the mess isn't exactly horrible either, and he decides to busy himself with the task at hand. the faster they're done, the faster they'll get to rest ( hopefully ). it helps too that he's doing the task with isak, the two of them standing side-by-side. the more he concentrates, the less he'll have to interact with isak. the both of them hadn't had the best of relationships, and wenjun had always remained confused as to how to approach isak. clearly they were both trainees under the same entertainment, and wenjun had never been the confronting type, or the type to hold grudges despite how terribly he'd been treated.
in his mind, his time with isak hadn't always been completely filled with arguments and wenjun feeling lesser than he should. there were times when isak would look at him in ways that made wenjun's heart flutter, times where he'd yearn for his touch ( though of course, that was long over now ).
still, it isn't easy to ignore him, not when isak speaks up and wenjun's immediate instinct is to look at him. ah right, isak hates cleaning. had always had some sort of disdain for it, and that was the reason why wenjun had somehow gotten so good at it too. "here, pass me your load," he says. it's natural, no – again, it's instinct. "you've always been bad at cleaning anyway," he comments without much thought, and begins taking some of isak's dishes. "i'd give you my gloves, but it's probably covered in sweat. you wouldn't like that right?" he turns to isak, and is then hit with reality. ah, it's isak – and wenjun had given in again.
he doesn't have to be told twice; as soon as wenjun offers to take it, isak is pushing his portion of dirty dishes over to the other man to take care of. "thank you," he sighs in relief, the words foreign on his lips but said more for the sake of any hidden cameras than genuine gratefulness for the other's kindness. that wasn't how isak's brain works after all; he's of the opinion that people should take care of him because he's just that special and important, or something. but somehow he also understands that acting that way on camera will not be taken very well.
"it's not that i'm bad at cleaning," he protests, immediately disgruntled by the fact that wenjun (or anyone) would call him bad at anything, "it's just that i really hate it. these hands weren't meant for this kind of work... oh, look at them, they're so ugly." he holds up his fingers for wenjun to see the wrinkled mess that they've become. isak scowls at his own palms. "do you have any hand lotion? this is going to be so bad."
cleaning duty sufficiently shirked, isak can focus his energy on building rapport with the imaginary audience watching their every interaction. while he's really just being himself, he knows that there's also a character to be played here; a more likable version of shin isak that's made for the public to digest, adore, admire. "you take such good care of me, wenjun," he speaks softly, sweetly, perhaps more so than he had even when he had called wenjun his own. "i don't know what i'd do without you."
if he's honest, it's not just for the camera. there's a part of him that wants to win wenjun back just to prove that he can. he wants to keep him wrapped around his finger, placated with a few well-timed 'good boy's and just enough soft words to keep his leash short, to keep him by his side. isak may not have wanted to date wenjun anymore and discarded him like last season's fashions, but that doesn't mean that he's okay with anyone else having him.
he can't decide if he had enjoyed their time away or if he's itching to get back to the legacy building. it's a fun sort of getaway though and he doesn't think he minded it as much as he thought, considering that he's never once even been close to a farm in his entire life. call him entitled, but he's just never had to do anything like this because he's always had other people doing it for him.
either way, he's not too mad about it. he's been trying to 'branch out' or whatever since coming to korea and this is definitely ... that.
he had kind of zoned out, not really paying attention to what was going on now since almost everything has been finished and he doesn't really need to be in 'on' mode anymore. when someone starts speaking, it takes iseul a moment for him to react and realize they're talking to him.
turning to look at the other trainee, he smiles a bit in greeting to acknowledge that he's being spoken to. "definitely ready to go home," iseul admits, more easily than expected. he fully agrees with the other's words and he stretches his arms above his head, a bit tired. ""i never thought i would say this, but i miss my bed in the dorms."
a short laugh escapes isak's lips, realizing quickly that he made a good choice in his small talk buddy for the moment. he's decided that they're kindred spirits after just one introductory exchange, the other boy's words mirroring isak's own thoughts exactly. it's not like the dorm beds are anything to write home about but at least they were familiar and isak knew exactly how to make them as comfortable as possible for a good night's rest. he can't say the same about their trip here.
"you and me both." he grins at the other young man and lets his eyes wander up and down as the other stretches, admiring the glimpses of skin and muscle underneath that he's treated to. it's innocent enough; just a quick once-over is enough for him to appreciate the masculine form. "can you believe i can't sleep without the distant sound of car alarms now? crickets and wildlife keep me up all night." saying it aloud makes him realize how impatient he is to go home; hopefully the homeowners return soon.
"it wasn't all bad though," he admits, more for the sake of any lingering cameras than actually telling the truth. he knows for certain he'll get the ugliest edit if he just sits here and complains too much. "we definitely learned a lot... it was a very new experience." one that isak would firmly not like to repeat again, thanks.
Haneul wouldn't call himself a country boy, but he supposes Iksan having some farming lands makes it count. Though he himself is more of a city boy, Haneul supposes he doesn't mind getting his hands dirty. As a beauty student, he deals with human hair and faces on a daily basis. He supposes a few animals shouldn't be a huge challenge. Feeding the animals like this is nice, especially if they're as well-behaved as the sheep he's feeding right now. But he knows this life isn't for him if they're thinking forever. He knows he belongs in a big bustling city, where he hopes to make all his dreams come true. It's silly, but then again, that's why he's here, right?
A deep voice snaps Haneul out of his reverie. He takes his hand away from where he was petting the sheep to look at who was talking. Chuckling, Haneul takes pity on the trainee in question. "She won't bite, right, little missy?" The sheep bleats at him softly before he turns back to the other trainee. He takes the pail of feed as he playfully rolls his eyes. "But fine, Isak, right?" Haneul smiles, his free hand back to petting the sheep. "I'll help you out this time."
"You just have to pour the feed in the troughs, and the sheep will eat from there," Haneul says, repeating the instructions given to them prior to filming. Was this guy seriously not listening? Unless, this dude has a genuine fear of animals and his mind blanked out now that he's confronted with the situation at hand? Sighing to himself, Haneul supposes he can respect that. He might as well play nice and hopefully get angel-edited for this. "I'll do a bit of it, then you have a go. Do you want to do that? We can do it together, cutie."
something breaks through the cold, dwindling fear that had gripped isak's stomach, something hotter and less pleasant, though more familiar: anger. he swallows it down, of course, knowing that their every movement and even the slightest expression is being watched and isak is nothing if not conscious of his public image. but it's there nonetheless, that burning feeling of resentment toward the other young man who makes it look so easy where isak had been intimidated by an herbivore. he hates being made to look like a fool, even if it's really his own damn fault.
"but that doesn't make for very interesting television, does it?" he defends himself, as if he knew all along that the feed is not given directly to the animal but dumped into the trough instead. "you know everyone wants to see us pet a lamb or something." not that he's getting any closer to those beasts than necessary now; he takes an extra step backwards as the hungry sheep start to approach the humans with the feed pail.
it's a struggle, balancing his genuine fear with the desire to become south korea's sweetheart through the broadcast of this show. it's his first chance to introduce himself to the public, after all, so isak wants to make a good impression. but annoyance finds its way into the mix and he's unable to stop himself from shooting a rather sharp look at the other trainee calling him 'cutie' in this situation. normally, he'd take it as a compliment. now, it just sounds patronizing. "no, you better just do it all. they look hungry, don't tease them." he manages to keep his tone light enough, though his lips move a little more tightly than they did before.

FINAL THOUGHTS.
LATE SUNDAY MORNING in NAMHAE COUNTY with [ open starter ]
is it normal for every muscle in his body to ache after just one weekend away from his normal bed? or perhaps it's the unfamiliar physical labor demanded of the trainees as they film the show; isak may have been required to participate in dance practices for the last several years but this was a different kind of strength entirely. the last of the chores have been wrapped up or are nearly complete, too many hands already on them for isak's to be needed—thank god.
really, they're just waiting for the homeowner to return and final good byes to be said, fake tears to be shed, and the whole thing to finish up. isak knows he's still on camera, knows he's still being watched. it what keeps tiredness out of his bones for now, his mind still too alert to relax enough to doze off (like he really wants to). but there's nothing to do to pass the time except... well, he supposes small talk is better than being left with his own thoughts.
"will you miss this place? or are you just ready to go home to the dorms?" he strikes up a conversation with the nearest trainee, a smile on his lips to appear friendly even if he has never talked to this person before in his life. "it's definitely been... different. but i think i'm a city boy at heart. i couldn't live like this all the time."
EVIL EYE.
SATURDAY MORNING in NAMHAE COUNTY with [ open starter ]
isak was born and raised in an urban paradise. any greenery he saw was always well-manicured, contained in neat little boxes or planters, tucked into convenient corners or adding a pop of color to an otherwise gray landscape. the animals he knew were small enough to fit into a purse, pampered to the point where they may as well be weird, furry children instead of a beast of any sort. he's never seen a sheep except for pictures on the internet. and now he stands in front of one, it's weird ovine eyes staring unblinkingly back at him, as if in challenge.
"actually," he hands the pail of feed over to one of the other boys in his chore group, his mouth suddenly dry as a new fear is discovered. "do you want to feed it? it's bigger than i thought it would be." he take a nervous look down at those hooves. as if reading his mind, the sheep stomps a foot. isak flinches. it appears he's unlocked a new, unexpected fear today!
he had been excited for this trip at first, mostly at the prospect of being in front of cameras. he thought he could steal the show no matter what challenges were set before them. how was isak supposed to know that his undoing would be a damn sheep? now, one night into the shoot, he really just misses sleeping in a familiar bed; he misses the lack of bugs, and not having to listen to no less than four different people all snore in different tunes as the trainees all packed into one house to film. one more night, he reminds himself. if he survives his encounter with this sheep, of course.
CONSOLATION PRIZE.
FRIDAY NIGHT in NAMHAE COUNTY with @lgcwenjun
"we won," isak huffs, examining his fingers and the way the skin is stained pink from the heat of the dishwater, the way it's already beginning to wrinkle. if he gets a hangnail from this, he'll be very upset. "how come this feels like a punishment instead of a prize?" normally, he'd never put his precious hands to work washing dishes if he could help it. he probably overpacked for this filming trip, and yet somehow he also doesn't think he thought to bring hand lotion and he just knows his skin is going to turn dry and crackly the moment he towels the soapy water off. this is probably top ten worst things that has ever happened to him.
at least he has wenjun with him. wenjun, who knows exactly how little isak likes getting his hands dirty, who used to bring him flowers every few days, who used to smile at him with puppy dog eyes that isak admittedly found adorable. he knows what his lips taste like and how soft they are pressed against his own. sometimes he misses it. not in the sense that he ever really loved the boy from china, but he loved the gentle attention wenjun showered him with. it's different now. isak doesn't really know how to stay friends with his exes; he hates the thought that they think they can live without him while he moves onto other things himself.
"i don't want to do this," he complains, knowing wenjun will take over the work for him just because he said so. he's always been that way, so eager to please. somehow, for isak, it was never enough. "my hands are gonna dry out, i can't believe they ran out of gloves. it's not fair, isn't it?" he seeks verbal validation for his complaints, knowing that wenjun will never say no to him.
incoming intro post . . .
hi hello and thank you for the welcomes i received so far! sorry i'm a little late, i was busy watching my football team lose 💔 so joining something new couldn't come at a better time for me!
you can call me mars (25+, he/him, est) and i'm here with... a walking red flag named shin isak (not isaac, js).
i didn't have time to put together a plot page yet, but i'll update this post when i have something thrown together ❤️ in the meantime, he's best summarized on his info page and biography summary.
EDIT: i've started a plot page here!
but also looking at them now... they make him sound a little too nice... to be clear, this guy is terrible. he's selfish and manipulative and incredibly spoiled and has a lot to learn... we'll be going for the actor path eventually but teamwork is still a requirement for that path so hopefully through his time here he can get it together and learn to be a better person ❤️ or maybe not! i'm here for the journey regardless and am excited to see what will become of mr. isak!

INTRODUCTION VIDEO FOUND … PRESS PLAY ?
there’s half a second before his expression falls into place, a moment when his face is nothing but void, empty space with no emotion, or thought, or humanity lingering in the look in his eyes. no sooner does the viewer blink before the man on screen is flashing a wide, toothy smile. somehow there’s the faintest predatory aura about him, despite nothing physically intimidating about him. some hidden intensity lurks below the surface. “it’s nice to meet you,” he bows politely, his manners nothing short of superb. “my name is shin isak, but you knew that, didn’t you?” he laughs, but then covers his vanity with simple fact: “it should say so in the title, right?” “i plan to be a well-respected actor that no one can say no to casting someday. please look after me well.” he bows again, and then comes the fun part: “today i’ll be showing you how fast i can cry! i’ve always been good at bringing up tears on demand, so today we’ll be timing it so you can see firsthand how quickly i can tap into all my emotions.” he holds up a stopwatch, ready to show the viewer. “ready? go!” he clicks the start and the counter beings ticking away as the young man looks down at his feet, his face twitching this way and that as he calls up tears to his eyes. the clock reads ’00:00:24:58’ as a single tear drips down his cheek. “less than half a minute, see?” he seems pleased with his own result. “you should try it too. i’ll look in the comments to see if anyone beats my record!” an expert at engagement; surely he believes that his video will get a lot of love from new fans. shin isak signs off not long after, singsonging his hope that everyone subscribes and looks forward to him in the future.
