Welcome to a historical figure a day where I a person tracking the english family tree need to put my notes on the insantity of these people. This is one Robert Cuthrose a son of William the Conquorer (yes that guy)

He was known as a weak willed incompetant ruler who has a poor record of administration within his realm.

His life was characterised by his pride, jealousy of his siblings and complex negative relationship with his father. His father gave him the name Curthose meaning short pants making fun of Roberts height and William believed his son was a good fighter but poor ruler.

Curthose was initially engaged to Margaret Heiress of the county of maine however she died before they could get married only leaving him a weak claim on the title

Tensions rose further in the family when Robert in 1078 Normandy had a fight with his younger brothers, where they poured a chamber pot over his head which was seen as an insult to his honour and when William failed to punish his brothers it confirmed to him that his father preferred them over him.

In his boyhood he was recgnised as his father successor in Normandy however he twice rebelled against his father and was in exile in Italy until his fathers death unable to control his vassals or establish domiance in authority in Europe. But on the battlefield he managed to knock his father off his horse and beat the daylights out of him.

Matilda his mother managed to deal with the family conflict and calm Robert but peace only lasted a few years.

During this time of peace he was entrusted with Williams forces up north and was effective in his responsiblity crossing Scotland and becoming friends with King Malcolm the III and Godfather to his daughter which stopped Scotland invading Northumberland for a bit. He also decided to name a new castle well new castle as it was a new castle.

Initially after his fathers death there was peace between the siblings for a year where both he and William agreed to be each others heirs, then he decided he wanted to go to war with his brothers. He was attacked twice by his younger brother King William II of England who made him give William two counties and peace was made the 2nd time 1094 giving Robert control of Normandy through money

He fought in the first crusade coragously and was seen as strong and coragous and was an exceptional military leader.
