OCism is also killing good writings. Because writers are creating characters first before having themes and goals. That's why your story sucked.

You have a character sheet and all sorts of details but you can't write a plot to save your life. Your pacing is dogshit.

I'm gonna be honest, if a Tumblr post mildly shitting on what you perceive as a flaw you have, has the capacity to make you give up on pursuing writing, then you're the type of artist who's going to be unwilling to improve or learn and will forever create bad art, which is still art, but not something I think even the people around you would lament on "missing out". The alternative is also you're the artist who will double down on said flaw just to "spite the critics", which if you also embody the average fandom tumblr-user, will probably result in the most tone deaf racist art imaginable. So also, not a big loss.

I’m adding Kylo being a perfectly average name to throw out along with Tom and Dick to my (admittedly small) pile of evidence that these books take place somewhere in the 30-50 years in the future range

#the scholomance #the theory here being that due to Those Movies the name kylo had a bit of a popularity surge #my other key piece of evidence is in book 3 when one of the london enclave vagabonds is humming bad romance and el calls it a super old song #or smth. and a couple other details from that book that i’m a little fuzzy on but they made me go ‘hmm’

Reading the last hundred pages like where’s liesel i wish liesel was here. you know what would make this scene better? Liesel.

Here’s the thing: authors know when they get a rec on an older story. There’s a telltale uptick of kudos (with a 10-15% comment rate if you’re lucky) in your digest email.

The thing is, there’s no way to know where these people are coming from. In the before, when fandom was more in the corners we all knew about, you could search LJ or a message board or whatever social bookmarking site we were using. You could join the community and participate.

You could get a little dopamine hit by seeing someone tell their friends why they loved your story.

Anymore, those recs are hidden in discords, or in tiktoks or instagram slideshows that you can’t search for. They’re inaccessible, not discoverable unless you’re already there. You may never know why 27 people left kudos on an old story of yours, what they liked and found in your writing. You just get the thumbs up and a kinda lonely feeling, cause these could be your people. You could like them, maybe. You could be friends.

But you’ll never find out why they stopped by, or what people are saying about you behind your back, and that’s sad.

So thank you to the people who still do public rec lists on this webbed site. You are my sunshine, and I’m appreciative of all of you.

the idea that restrooms, locker rooms, etc need to be single-sex spaces in order for women to be safe is patriarchy's way of signalling to men & boys that society doesn't expect them to behave themselves around women. it is directly antifeminist. it would be antifeminist even if trans people did not exist. a feminist society would demand that women should be safe in all spaces even when there are men there.

btw this is maybe the single most key distinguishing feature of the terfy strains of radical feminism, the seed all the rest of it springs out of: they have absolutely no faith in the ability of feminism to actually destroy patriarchy. they do not think feminism can truly build a better world. they cannot really even imagine that possibility. they think patriarchy is an inevitable natural consequence of unchangeable biological facts, and therefore the goal of feminism can only be to mitigate the worst effects of patriarchy, not to get rid of it.

they can imagine a society where women get some designated safe spaces without men around. they cannot imagine a society where the presence of men is not inherently a danger to women.

#i understand the point and i understand why it appeals to people but it really really doesn’t to me #i’m not like. strictly no alcohol i’ll have a few drinks a year but there are def some tendencies in my family. i’ve seen how people behave #when they’re drunk and abusing alcohol and it’s definitely steered me away from drinking regularly
