“It’s because I have such supportive friends,” Caleb retorted. “Probably, because you’re so good looking. I’d go for more though.” 

“Hey, I’m going to Alaska for you,” Levi smiled slightly, because he really didn’t find going to Alaska to be a chore. “Oh, of course, of course. You’re far more worthy.”

“They were both bitches, so I don’t count them,” Caleb huffed. “Hey, if you’re interested, I could talk to my mom about it. She basically sees you as her second son anyway, I’m sure she’d be happy to sell you to the highest bidder.” 

“You’re so supportive,” Levi rolled his eyes. In reality, he really hadn’t chosen the nicest girls to be with, but he had loved them. “Really? D’ya think I’d sell for a lot?”

“Whatever, dude,” Caleb rolled his eyes. If he had something other than coffee in his hands, he would’ve thrown it at Levi. “I’ll find an actual girlfriend once you do.”

“Hey, I’ve had two girlfriends last over two years. That’s not bad. Y’know, my Brita filter lasts longer than your relationships,” Levi took a second to smirk over at him, then returned his attention to the penguins. “Besides, my family isn’t about to auction me off to rich girls.”

“It’s too early for me,” Caleb settled in a barstool, watching the TV from across the room. “I would just say that you’re my gay lover, but my mom would believe it and go ecstatic,” Caleb joked, taking a sip of his coffee. “Find a fake girlfriend? Around here? Some of these girls would go crazy once they saw my parent’s place and actually want to marry me. I’m better off just dealing with it.”

“Or...,” Levi stopped at the Discovery Channel, which was airing some show about penguins. Levi shamelessly watched every show about penguins. “You could find an actual girlfriend. You know, open up to someone, or something. Just throwing that out there, though.”

“Don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll be something other than wine there. You know how us Ashtons love our alcohol,” Caleb poured his cup of coffee. He turned around after he poured it, blowing on it so it would cool faster. He had always liked his coffee black. “That’s the thing- it’s always a different girl. They’re all from rich families, so by this point, most of the pretty ones have been married off. At the Christmas party though, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of my parents’ friends gave me marriage proposals from their daughters- and sons. They all want in our damn business, one way or another.” 

“Speaking of, I’m surprised you didn’t put any Irish Creamer in that cup of coffee,” Levi laughed slightly at his own weak joke, and pushed himself up from the counter to walk across the apartment in order to grab the TV remote. “Guess you’ll have to find someone before then. They couldn’t bother you about it if you weren’t single, could they? I dunno, just trying to come up with a solution.” He clicked on the television, wincing at the episode of 19 and Counting that was on before quickly changing the channel.

“No need. There’s two wine cellars, remember?” Caleb laughed, suddenly wanting coffee himself. He strode over o the other side of the small kitchen, grabbing a mug on his way. “Because… they don’t care. They don’t care about anything. And all they do is ask me if they can match me up with some girl of their friends or when I’m moving back to Alaska. I’m sick of it.” 

“If only I liked wine. I didn’t have my entire childhood to develop a taste for it like you did,” Levi’s smile disappeared at some point during Caleb’s small rant. He always gave his friend a hard time, but that wasn’t to say he didn’t feel bad for him. “Sorry, man... That’s-... How pretty is the girl?”

“Only when he’s the drunk,” Caleb pointed out, “My senile grandmother is the only one I can really stand.” Caleb glared at Levi, though a smile was evident on his face, “Okay, we’ve been over this. He was only mad because he had to special order it from Europe. I once crashed a Porsche and didn’t even get yelled at. Besides, that was the most fun I’ve ever had at Christmas.” 

“We’ll bring extra whiskey, then,” Levi sipped from his coffee, staring at Caleb over the mug. “How come you’re only happy when you’re making things harder on your family? I mean, I know you’re masochistic, but a Mercedes and a Porsche... They didn’t deserve it.”

“I hate Christmas with my family. All they do is drink and complain about their Rolexes,” Caleb rolled his eyes. “Good. My mother likes you more anyway. You’ll probably get a nicer watch than me.”

“Your uncle’s always pretty funny, though,” Levi nudged the man next to him with a meek smile on his face. “Lighten up a bit, will you? I’m sure it’ll be fine, unless you scratch your dad’s Mercedes like that one time...”

Caleb rolled his eyes. “Fuck you,” he said with an annoyed tone, “You know I hate Alaska.” Levi only seemed to understand Caleb’s hatred for his home half the time. It was the type of thing that no one would understand unless they lived it. “She was quite delighted to hear that you would be joining us for Christmas, though. Feel free to enjoy the ham and gifts for me,” he laughed. 

“I know you hate Alaska. But no one hates Christmas,” Levi pushed past him to grab a mug, pouring himself coffee without glancing up at his best friend. “Oh, good, you invited me. S’better than going home to Massachusetts. Don’t worry-- I’ll do all the small-talking.”

“C’mon, man, you’re complaining about being invited home for the fancy ham and plenty of gifts?” Levi walked over, leaning against the kitchen counter with an exasperated sigh. Why did Caleb always have to act like the world was ending? “You did skip out on visiting over the summer...”
