Jesus at the Temple

- Mary and Joseph go to the Passover festival every year

Luke 1

Luke dedicates the book to Theophilus.

John’s birth is announced to Zechariah.

Zechariah was married to Elizabeth and they both were righteous in God’s sight. As Zechariah was preparing incense in the temple, an angel appeared to him and he was scared. The angel, Gabriel, promised that he and Elizabeth would have a son and he needs to be named John. Zechariah doubted this so the angel got annoyed and stopped him from speaking. He was unable to speak as his wife got pregnant and he stayed away from everyone.

Jesus’ birth is announced to Mary.

God sent Gabriel the angel to Nazareth to speak to a Virgin named Mary. The angel told her that she was highly favoured and that she will conceive and give birth to a son named Jesus. Mary had a back and forth conversation questioning how this was possible. Eventually, Mary agreed and the angel left her. Mary then goes to visit her cousin, Elizabeth. Eventually John was born.

Zechariah Prophecies.

Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophecies over John (Luke 1:68–79). John grows up to be strong in the spirit and lived in the wilderness.
