Progress report for 2023:
As of December 30, 2023, I have made about 7/8 of the top of The Fat Quarter Shop's Ultimate Beginner Quilt. I have all the blocks made and only need to attach the last of the sashing and borders and then the top is done. Not to get too excited, I didn't use my brain when I bought the fabric and so will need to do some creative piecing on the back to make it wide enough and that will take quite some time. But all in all, very exciting for my very first quilt and very first official sewing project! That said, I am putting it away for a few months. It is meant to be a gift and I have another gift that I need to try to complete before it.
I am in the process of making a Mood Fabrics pattern. It took me 3 days to tape it all together because 60 pages is a lot and I am suddenly wondering if all sewing patterns are this huge and unwieldy. I've also never made clothes before so this will be interesting.
And here is that other gift! I am in the process of cutting out my fabric for a second quilt, the Foothills Mystery Quilt from Meadow Mist Designs. I love the idea of a mystery anything so hopefully this will be fun and I will be able to find more things of the same nature. I should be able to finish cutting everything out and marking everything either today or tomorrow and get started sewing it to ring in the New Year!
I have so many plans for 2024 and hopefully I find quilting to be as fun as piecing is because I want to make 3 or 4 quilts for gifts this year.
My goals for 2024:
Gambit dress from Mood Fabrics
Onella blouse from Mood Fabrics
Foothills Mystery quilt from Meadow Mist Designs
Ultimate Beginner Quilt from the Fat Quarter Shop
Yellow shirt with embroidery
Crinkle shirt/pants I haven't decided
Linen shirt like Bernadette Banner's pirate shirt, maybe with embroidery idk
Red dress with embroidery
Hook, Line, Sinker quilt from Windham Fabrics
If there's still time before October or Christmas, 2 blocks from the Super Mario Brothers Quilt Along from Angela Pingel Designs
Maybe start on the Wandering in Middle Earth SYOA from Cunning Cross Stitch
This might not seem like a lot but 1. I've never used a sewing machine so everything I've done this year was sewn by hand and I'm a little leary of trying it plus where do I put it? And you can't take it with you when you're on the go the way you can with hand sewing, and 2. I am terrible at finishing projects I start, that's probably about all the planned stuff I can handle in a year or two.
