Thoughts on the TADC finale now that we can finally talk about it.
-Objectively super good. Absolutely wonderful short series. Top tier creativity, writing, music, animation.
-Subjectively, I wanted more time spent on Caine in the finale.
-My only other subjective nitpick that honestly doesn't even matter- in that it does not affect my opinion of the series or final at all because it is so insignificant: I don't like GanglexZooble.
There I said. I'm probably the only person on the planet to say so. Their dynamic always felt very platonic friend/mentor to me and not romantic at all, and I really liked that. I also appreciated that there were no canon "ships" or romance in the series and all is left to interpretation. I would say this is still true; like I said, it doesn't really matter so much because the only shippy confirmation was in the background of the final credits, so yeah, not a big thing.

Some immediate thoughts after watching the characters' stories over the years--
-The Deep:
The Deep's ending was exactly what I thought would happen-- the why and how being a mix of what most people expected and wanted (ie Annie and the sea animals).
He ended up with a tragic ending-- and when I say tragic, I mean it in the THEATRICAL sense: "dealing with an unhappy ending, especially one concerning the downfall of the character". It has nothing to do with sympathy and there is none of that here. He dug his own grave and had to lie in it.
That is the Deep's storyline as it has progressed, running paralell to A-Train's in the opposite direction. There's a word for that I am forgetting..
Most people will likely boil down the Deep's arc down to stupidity, but I think over 5 seasons it did a good job showing the "tragedy" of how Deep's insecurity/desire to fit in, alongside toxic masculinity and fear in relation to it (very heavy handed in s5), led him to that point of being in denial/unable to take responsibilty for his own actions and choices.
He betrayed the only "people" who actually liked him for who he was, all because he wanted to be adored by humans, via homelander style in a position of power.
He had so many chances to turn his story arc around- so to speak- but chose wrong every time due to the crux of his fear/insecurity of not fitting in, or not being "man" enough. Which is what makes him a "tragic" character to me; his character regresses, there were times in s2-3ish where you are kept guessing will he/won't he learn/progress as a character, but as seasons go on it is apparent he is going to have a downward arc and fall. Death by toxic masculinity.
I wouldn't say the ending as a whole was "disappointing" but it was all very expected, like the end of Deep's story. It all felt very safe.
- I DID NOT want some action-packed Marvel movie superhero war for the ending btw, so I am glad it wasn't that. That isn't the Boys' style anyway, though I have seen that a lot of people wanted something more like that. Not me.
What I think it lacked- and what I would have really liked- was something surprising. Any element of surprise at all, but there were absolutely zero of those moments for me.
(I know Deep lives in the comic but I do not know the context.)
-Sister Sage getting out of there scott free after all she did to put Homelander where he was is wild. Though I imagine her fun at Harry Potter World would be short lived and the Feds eventually take her in. Good ending for her, so long as you don't think about that she will likely be captured and imprisoned.
-I don't want to see anyone saying Homelander was OOC in the finale btw. After 5 seasons of us all watching this show that is a huge disservice to Anthony Starr. That WAS Homelander as he always has been and who he is at his core; we've seen it often.
- Butcher is still a great anti-hero.
-I NEVER watched Gen V btw. So I have nothing to say there. Except I had no interest in a spinoff and I still DON'T. Jensen was great, but he alone is not enough for me to watch a prequel series, extra nah points when Clara is in it. I had enough of her. No interest in the Soldier Boy series.
- Kimiko going back into signing for that one scene. My heart. Even if Frenchie's lines felt a lil cheesy, I loved that little moment with her.

I love this post because the replies are like "for anyone who doesn't know what nestle did, they benefited from [insert human rights violation here]" but nestle has done SO many fucked up things you get a different topic in every comment
Drained water from places suffering from drought for absolute pennies.
Made African mothers dependent on their milk formula, which they gave for free, until their milk dried up. Then they required them to purchase it, mothers could not afford it, mixed in too little to fulfill nutrient needs, and mixed it with polluted water. Children died.
Used slavery to produce their cocoa.
Pushed for water to be considered a “want” not a “need” and is at the forefront of arguments that water is not a human right.
Poisoned Chinese infants with melamine in their milk formula.
Demanded Ethiopia pay a debt owed to Nestle, during a FAMINE.
Price-fixed food items.
Contributed to deforestation for their cocoa farming.
The worst thing is, Nestle owns TONS of other brands, making it difficult to avoid for certain products.
the "my favorite character did nothing wrong" mindset is completely unappealing to me because i love thinking about all the things my favorite characters did wrong
"this character acted irrationally and i don't like it :/" people act irrationally in real life all the time. why do you want stories to be boring. "it made me uncomfortable" GOOD. learn to be uncomfortable from harmless fictional situations and perhaps you'll handle yourself better next time you're uncomfortable irl

rlly fascinating phenomenon to me is when a character is extremely popular, and that popularity seems understandable enough because they've got something interesting going on, and then you look at the fandom and realize 99% of their fans don't actually care about engaging with any of the things that make them interesting and instead seem to be fans of an imaginary milquetoast version that exists solely for ship and/or angst content and is so far removed from the canon character they might as well be an unrelated OC at this point
Aka a version of events in my head where instead of getting exiled to Lys, Aerion is stripped of his titles and the only way his father will allow him back into the family is by proving his honor/serving time as an actual knight-- with attestations from both Dunk and Egg who he is to aid and travel alongside (so they can bear witness), stripped of his family name and status
The deal hinging on the survival and word of both Dunk and Egg in order for him to return.
Almost like having 2 squires instead of one- poor Egg would hate this turn of events so much; Aerion would be unable to accept himself as a servant/squire, more likely referring to his new station as their guard/ his brother's keeper (since their lives are now directly tied to his fate-- and how lucky for them, to be guarded by a dragon.), even though the *point* is for him to serve the realm.
