Rumtek Monastery (རུམ་ཐེག་དགོན་པ) is the largest gompa in the state of Sikkim. It was built in the 1700s under Changjub Dorje, the 12th Karmapa Lama. It is home to the community of monks and where they perform the rituals and practices of the Karma Kagyu lineage. A golden stupa contains the relics of the 16th Karmapa. The gompa also contains a college of higher Buddhist studies.

Portable Shrine (made from a log)

This portable shrine was made from a solid log carved inside and out. Tantric practice can be performed alone in any location; this shrine could be used by a traveling practitioner for meditation, visualization, prayer, and recitation of mantras.
Tiny Thak Thok Monastery, built around a sacred cave where the famous Buddhist saint Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) is said to have stayed on his journey to Tibet from India.
