You've got those lips...

I've watched depression from young, fidgety eyes. They fidget because I never wanted people to know that I could see it. That's a thing when it comes to depression, when people realize you can see it. I've seen it. I know what it is. I've known that it was inside of me as well. I knew it was present. I read a roll call daily, depression was always in the back of the classroom, tiny malnourished and afraid but recognizable. I could see her a bit. She wasn't keen about that, that I could identify her. Today as I called her name I noticed that she had grown. It was as if she had gone through puberty. She had hips, her upper body strong, her waist thin. She intimidated me when she said "present". Her voice more demanding than mine, I felt myself losing control. I heard myself saying this is it. I couldn't believe how unprepared I was.
