[Preview of my fic for @spopbigbang ]

"I want to protect you," Adora whispers breathlessly. For a moment Catra doesn't even know how to reply. Her heart thuds.

"You can't. You've been trying all these years haven't you?"

"Well yeah, but…"

"You can't," Catra says more firmly.

"What if we ran away?"

Hearing something like that come out of Adora's mouth shocks her to her core. Her mouth freezes mid bite of a ration bar. For a moment she doesn't even know what to say. She can barely even believe it's real.

"What?"

"We could," Adora continues carefully.

"You don't actually mean that." Catra searches her face carefully for any clues of uncertainty.

"No, no I do," Adora sounds scared and it's the only thing that could ever even begin to make Catra believe even the slightest hint of truth in those words. Because it is terrifying. The idea of a reality where there is no certainty of three meals a day or a place to sleep, where Shadow Weaver surely hunts them no matter how far they run. It's scary and it feels hopeless. But it's also electrifying. The newness of it, the fragile idea of a future for the two of them that Shadow Weaver doesn't own. That Hordak doesn't own. Catra pictures that future. She pictures she and Adora kissing. Her cheeks flush and she nearly just kisses her right now.

Yay finally I get to share this! This is my second year participating in @spopbigbang and I had a blast! This is an illustration for chapter 2 of @n7punk 's fic "glitter, spice, everyone fight" I had so much fun drawing this and it was awesome to work together!
