i've donated blood, and for anyone nervous, i'm going to tell you about the process!
you're given an appointment at a blood donation centre and given a form to fill out
you're asked some questions about your health and eligibility to donate - there's some reasons you might not be able to donate, such as if you have hiv, or if you've been sick recently (yes, you can't donate if you've been sick!!)
if you're eligible, you're then told to drink lots of water to get ready
then you're taken to a special comfy chair that tilts back, and they put the needle in you
congratulations! you're donating!
you lie there for about five minutes while they take the blood, and you're told to move the donating hand (usually your non dominant hand, so for me it was my left hand) around to stimulate blood flow
worth mentioning you can listen to music or be on your phone with your other hand. you can also have someone else with you for the whole time if you're nervous ❤️
and the nurses are usually very nice to you!!! like. they're gonna be lovely almost definitely cos they really want you there
after five minutes, they remove the needle (**if it hurts, they will take it out early. even if you decide you don't want to, they'll take it out early**)
then you lie in the chair for a little longer, slowly getting tilted upright
after that, you help yourself to a well deserved drink and snack (for free and provided for you!!)
you may feel a little faint and tired - i did at first! i actually passed out lol XD but if you do pass out, again, they take very good care of you
overall it's very worth doing and the process only takes up to an hour!!
and you can save up to three lives!!!!!!
