this is probably my fault for letting the common fanonisation where fenris is like begrudgingly courted by a more romantically inclined hawke get to me and my perceptions of the characters inbetween my playthroughs, but it never gets less crazy to me that if u don’t flirt with fenris on first meeting then he does the whole “practise my flattery for your next visit” bit in the next cutscene basically entirely unprompted in the actual conversation, im always like HELLO even though i know the line is coming and i’m the one who pressed the heart button. but hawke barely flirts in that version, purple hawke just has that stupid “you sound like you’re about to ask for a loan” bit, they did NOT start that. & they’re either a mage or the person who’s introduced him to 3 mages since they met last week. & he just starts being cute. even before u take the heart option it’s all like “i could see myself staying... for the right reasons...” and “had i known anso would find someone so capable...” or whatever like Hello. Hello. Is Everyone Seeing This. and i literally know he’s going to say that why am i gasping

Completely personal preference but gonna be real with you, vampires and werewolves and stuff like that just don't hit the same for me without the angst, the guilt, the terror, like what's the point, "oh but what if he was just a puppy," yeah yeah, that's nice, I don't care, what if their very being was tearing them apart from the inside, what if the hunger never stops clawing and clawing and clawing even if you have it under control for the moment, not to say there's not exceptions or variations, those who've come to terms with or revel in their nature or etc., different opportunities for silliness or softness for sure, but to strip *all* manner of horror or discomfort from the lore, it's like wow, where is the appeal, the flavour, I hope you're hungry FOR NOTHING, just like your "vampire" apparently
