“A few years ago, I was told that part of the reason why I hadn’t encountered a certain level of success is because movie stars have a very recognizable quality they bring to everything, and that, maybe,” he ventures, “I don’t.” He wrestles with this briefly but, ultimately, wouldn’t change it: “My favorite performances from other people are often unsung because they disappear into a part and serve a bigger purpose,” he counterpoints. “I want to connect to something that is greater than me and put myself in service of it.”
