If Otto Frank had let this be included in the published version, there’s a large chance the homophobic backlash would have prevented the book from reaching the audience it did and spreading the message it needed to. It was NINETEEN. FORTY. SEVEN. The Holocaust had ended TWO YEARS AGO. The acceptance of LGBT identities was basically nonexistent. Otto Frank made a decision based on the time and place he was living in, about what the world at that time was and wasn’t ready to accept. 

Let me say this as bluntly as I can - I am a bisexual Jewish girl and I would have made the same decision Otto Frank did. Making sure Anne Frank was unambiguously seen as sympathic and heroic was more important. Making sure people weren’t sidetracked from the main issue of the Holocaust was more important. He shouldn’t have had to make that decision, without doubt. Anne Frank’s sexuality (however she would have identified in modern terms) shouldn’t be considered relevant to her status as a hero or a sympathetic victim. But in 1947, it undoubtedly would have been.

Astrologers helped design the study

I just finished watching TADC finale, and I liked it! Was it rushed and had a lot going on? Yeah. Was it still enjoyable? Yes!

Except for one part.

(Well, two, but that scene with Jax and Gangle *shudders* has been talked about before by other people)

During Ribbit’s confessional to Jax, she mentions that her parents were “devout Mormons” and she “…wasn’t”. She then said that she cut ties with them, but regretted it.

Now, I’m going to go ahead and say that I think this is one of the most nuanced and respectful mentions of my faith I’ve seen in modern media, even if it was slightly negative. I appreciate Goose for taking that approach.

However, I know the internet, and I know the TADC fandom. So I wanted to clear this up before people take it too far.

Latter-Day Saints, or Mormons, are not collectively bad. There are bad eggs and members who take the faith and twist it in a way to control and conquer, but that is with every religion.

Now, that isn’t do downplay anyone who has had religious trauma from their church experience. Every ward/branch, every leader, is going to be different and have different views, helpful or harmful.

However, I hope that people talk to members about the church and what they believe and get to know who they are.

Simply say they're in a cult with no evidence. They have never heard this before.

Tell them they're in a cult using the most straw man arguments you can think of. Who needs actual facts when you can just repeat what your pastor/favorite anti mormon YouTuber says?

Tell them they worship Joseph Smith. This is true.

Tell them they're not Christian because they believe in a different Jesus and that they're actually atheist/pagan/devil worshippers. They may think they worship Jesus Christ the son of God but actually they don't.

Inform them of the priesthood ban. They definitely don't already know about this.

Say that their temple rituals are creepy and weird and that means they're in a cult. Only cults have rituals and nothing else.

Make fun of them for wearing magic underwear. It's not weird to talk about other people's underwear if they're in a cult.

Tell them Joseph Smith was a pedophile and deserved to die. This will not make them defensive it will make them listen to you and leave their cult.

Quote the banned mormon cartoon. This is a 100% accurate depiction of their faith and has not been criticized by anti hate speech groups.

Get their beliefs confused with another controversial religion. This always works.

If you're on tumblr make sure you tell them about the policies on queer people. A community of queer mormons have never heard this before this is the first time.

Point out bad things mormons have done and pretend that no other religion has done anything bad.

Tell them to read the Bible. If they tell you they do read the Bible tell them they're wrong because mormons don't read the Bible.

I'll take this as well-intentioned, just because I think it's a question that's worth asking, even if it's framed in a bit of an accusatory way.

Oddly enough, you could be referring to a couple of things. If you're talking about the "curse of darkness" in the Book of Mormon, then the most common interpretation is that it was not a physical darkness of skin, but a spiritual darkness. If you're talking about the priesthood ban on black folks, you're 100% right in seeing that as wildly messed up. Speaking as a direct descendent of the family of Brigham Young, I don't think God finds any race as less worthy than another, and that ban should've been abolished years before it was, or even better, never implemented. On the off chance you're talking about the Curse of Cain nonsense, that's been disavowed by the Church for years, and it comes from desperate minds trying to justify incorrect policies in the Church through scripture.

Long story short, "cool Mormon lore" (I don't actually know which post you're referring to, but it's very on-brand for me to have said that) doesn't see black people as less than human. Bigots have, as with every religion, attempted to leverage Scripture and religion as a tool in their crusade for decades, but the God I believe in doesn't have any part of that.
