The thing about the D&D movie which is absolutely genius is that the game mechanics basically insulate them against any of the most frustratingly fun sucking movie criticisms. “But why were the guards looking the wrong way?” Failed their perception check. “Why did the spell stop RIGHT before they would have died” Dropped concentration. It gets to be dumb and fun anyone that TRIES to be the plot hole police gets ever increasingly obscure D&D rulebooks thrown down in front of them and called a fake nerd. There's NOTHING those type of guys hate more than being a fake nerd. This movie is untouchable.

I'm thinking of the in-between. I'm thinking of the three years where Fenris wasnt with Hawke, but was following Hawke everywhere and wearing that little scrap of red fabric. I'm thinking of the ambiguity. Fenris who cannot let himself have Hawke because he's not in the right place, but they are still his safe harbour in a storm. Fenris who doesn't sleep in Hawkes bed, but sometimes falls asleep in front of the fire in Hawkes living room. Hawke who never pushes but who's shoulders brush Fenris's in quiet comfort whenever Fenris gets that faraway look on his face. Fenris who uses all his spare coin to buy Hawke a blanket for Christmas because Hawke deserves something that is soft and not about violence. Hawke who pays for Fenris's tab at the hanged man. The in-between. The not-together-but-never-apart.
