Crack a Bottle and Count Me Out ♦︎ Eric & Ava
Ava laughed lightly at his reaction. “Must be someone horrible, I’ve never seen you so… jumpy.” She smiled slightly, her eyes studying his face, searching for a reason for his hostility. “But don’t worry, I know the feeling, I’m trying to avoid a few people too and fortunately, this place seems to be the best place for problem solving.” She joked, raising her shot glass and downing the liquid in one gulp. As usual, Ava welcomed the familiar taste, as it left a slight burn in its path.
"It’s alright." The trainer admitted before turning around on her stool, so that her bar was against the bar and the people at the bar were in plain slight. "I mean it’s weird to see all the factions together again.." Ava paused and turned her head to look at Eric. "But I guess you see all the other factions all the time, right? Being a leader and all." Grabbing her drink, she lifted it to her lips and took a sip. Turning back to the group of people in the bar, Ava couldn’t help, but tap her foot to the beat of the music and she could feel the bass travel through her chess.
The women laughed and brushed her hair behind her ears. “Are you saying that, if you’d helped with the organising then the event would have been better?” Shuffling back on her seat a bit more, she took another swig from her glass. “Would there have been stripers and target shooting at Candor standee’s?” She chuckled. “I think it’s alright.. Are you enjoying yourself?”
"You have no idea." Eric said, laughing even though the situation he was in wasn't funny in the slightest. Still, Ava didn't need to know that. Running a hand through his hair, the leader shook his head and took another swig from the bottle of amber liquid set before him. He was thankful that the other leaders had actually included the bar — the other factions didn't really drink, he knew that much, but Dauntless wasn't fun without drinking. It was giving him something to do other than cower with his tail between his legs at any sight of Jeanine. Hell, maybe the alcohol would actually strike some courage within him. Maybe he'd tell her to fuck off.
'Cause that's a great idea, Eric.
Raising his eyebrows at Ava when she asked him about if he saw any of the other factions, he nodded shortly after. Shifting in his seat, he made himself more comfortable, his legs stretching out before him. If someone tripped, well, that was their own fault. "Yeah, I do." He rubbed at his nose subconsciously, sniffing shortly after. "Nothing compares to Dauntless, of course, but it's interesting to see how the other factions work. I mean, the boring parts aside, I can't blame people for staying in their same factions if it's all they've known their whole life." He smiled, a secretive grin that only he knew the real reason behind, and pointed to himself. "And then there are others, like me, who leave because they can't stand the fucking place."
Humming, Eric shrugged his shoulders and took another sip of his beer. His eyes met Ava's for a second, and his grin no longer was only for himself. Full of amusement, he looked behind him and jutted his thumb out towards the crowd of people dancing. "Well, for one, I wouldn't have this shitty music playing if I was the one in charge. Strippers, huh? Who knows. But it definitely would be somewhere... nicer. And better thought out. I mean, who puts a bar right next to a building where people can climb up it? I'm all for reckless and brave, but if some fuckwad tried climbing it drunk, I wouldn't help him if he fell."
Eric sighed after a moment, shaking his head but smiling at Ava. "I am now." He told her honestly, taking a drink. "Thanks for getting my mind off of it."
"I’m everyone’s type, dumbass. Besides, you learned all the important things. That was enough.”
"Really?" Eric raised an incredulous eyebrow, laughing. "I'm sure the Stiffs would just eat you up. The important stuff, yeah? I gotta give you that — but only like, twenty percent credit. The rest was all me."

Crack a Bottle and Count Me Out ♦︎ Eric & Ava
For Ava the 4th of July was something that had weighed down her mind for a while now. The thought of factions mingling freely made her nervous. What if she bumped into her oldest brother, Elliot, in Erudite clothing or her other brother, Flynn, on Amity’s drug. Although the thought haunted her there was also a possibility they wouldn’t even recognise her anymore. The whole situation made her uncomfortable and angry with herself, she is Dauntless and she can do what she wants. Her eyes scanned the areas. Amity seemingly more free to mix with everyone. Abnegation and Erudite kept away from each other; and Candor were just here and there, but mostly stayed with people of there own faction.
It most certainly was a sight to see. All the faction together, was like school again. Ava smiled gently, but hid it from anyone looking with her help of a black hood and her hair. She was on the edge of the crowds, lent against the side of a building with a glass of champagne in her hand, taking a sip the women scrunched her nose up, she’d never had the bubbly alcoholic beverage before and now she knew she was wise not the try it. Throwing the glass onto the ground, a sly smirk appeared on her face at the sound of the glass smashing on the ground. Pushing off of the wall she headed towards the bar, she needed a drink more suited to her taste.
Weaving through the crowd was easy until someone bumped into her. “Woah! Watch it!” A Candor women just apologised and pointed to the person who’d pushed her. Ava’s eyes fell upon the back of Eric’s head, he was moving fast, like he was trying to run from someone. The women narrowed her eyes and followed him, the young leader had become more and more interesting since the day they spoken to each other on the net and when he was there after her fight. - Which she’d never gotten the chance to thank him for. - Reaching the bar she looked around, searching for a reason that could be the answer for his rush. Mentally shrugging to herself she walked over to the bar, it was loud, but Ava could still hear the heels of her boots making clicking sound on the floor with every step. “I’ll have a vodka and coke and two tequila’s.” She spoke smoothly to the bar tender and seated herself next to Eric. She didn’t say anything until her drinks had been place in front of her, thanking the bartender with a wink, she moved one of the shots in front of him. “So.. Who ruffled your feathers?”
Eric was jostled when Ava sat down in the empty seat next to him, his panic rising to the surface of his chest as he though shit, fuck, she's found me, she's going to kill me, fuck fuck fuck — and then he looked over at dark hair and mesmerizing blue eyes, and breathed a sigh of relief. "Ava." He said, relaxing back against the bar. He hadn't even noticed that he'd been so stiff. "Uh, nobody. Just someone that I really don't want to talk to."
He kept the mother aspect to himself, knowing that if he said that, she might ask questions. It was hard enough for people to question who his mother and father were when he was in Dauntless, tucked safely away from Jeanine, but when she was actually at the event? Hell no. He couldn't do that even if he'd tried. Swallowing hard, he grabbed the tequila shot and raised it as a cheer, tipping his head back and letting the alcohol go down the hatch. It burned down his throat, but he didn't mind it. Maybe if he drank his fears away, he'd be able to stand her.
"Enjoying the party?" He asked, hoping that it'd be able to take his mind off of his abusive mother. He looked around, his blue eyes sliding from person to person, as he felt the beats of the music pouring into his ears. It wasn't good in the slightest, but it had a catchy beat. If the night continued correctly, Eric might actually go out and dance. "It's well set-up. I had barely any part in it, but it still turned out great."
Crack a Bottle and Count Me Out ♦︎ Eric & Gene
Gene was not affected by the male’s words. He only smirked a bit wider and shook his head. “You’re so young,” he mumbled to himself. Anyone who knew Gene for more than the short period of time that Eric had knew that he was not one to simply butt out of someone’s business. It was just who he was. He tapped his finger on the bar and picked up the beer that was handed to him.
"My family is slowly decaying as we speak, so no, I’m not interested in seeing them," He said dryly. He took a sip of his drink and tilted his head. "She’ll find you, ya know. She’s not the leader of Erudite for nothing," He mused with a raised brow. "Want to go help me with the fireworks?"
Eric cracked a grin at the comment on his age. Of course he was young. Gene, of all people, knew exactly how young Eric had been when he was appointed as a Leader (aged nineteen, to be exact, right after his final results came in). It wasn't like Eric was modest about it, either. It was clear that he'd made sure that everyone knew just exactly who he was within Dauntless. Scoffing, he shook his head slowly and looked over at Gene with his eyebrows raised. "Yeah, I'm young. You know this already. Hell, everybody does. I don't see anybody having a problem with that."
He shrugged his shoulders, and took a drink of his beer as well. "Whatever, though. I don't really care about shit right now." And that includes my mother. Well, okay, that was a bit of a lie, because he actually cared a shit ton about what his mother would do the next time they chatted. Threaten him some more, probably. And yet — how did Gene know about who his true mother was? It wasn't exactly out in the open, and only a couple of people knew about it (Anna, for one, and he'd practically told Greyson the day that the bomb had dropped on Dauntless HQ). Still, he refused to say anything on the matter, knowing that if he gave Gene the satisfaction of knowing that he was bothered, it would ensue even more difficulty for him in the future.
However, his offer did sound interesting. Who wouldn't want to play with explosives? "Yeah, I can. Just don't set 'em off on me, all right?" Eric got up from his seat and took another sip of his beer, following Gene.
Crack a Bottle and Count Me Out ♦︎ Eric & Gene
Gene had no inhibitions to be outside for this whole event. His family hated him — for good reason, he supposed. Anyone who wasn’t straight laced and focused on science was looked down upon in Erudite. He looked around the extend of the large festival and felt his stomach churn. “Fantastic,” He muttered, rolling tired eyes and letting out a heavy sigh.
He wasn’t needed just yet for the fireworks. So, he had time to relax. He was cooped up so often in the bunkers that he’d begun to forget what the sky looked like. He stared up at it absently as he sat against the bar.
Movement in the corner of his gaze caught his attention. He tilted his head and watched as the younger leader ordered his drink in a hurry. He smirked. Oh, goodie.
”So. Hiding from mommy?” He questioned.
"Excuse me?" Eric asked, his head turned to the side as he looked at the much older leader. He was one among them, and he had no need to feel intimidated. Grabbing the beer that was set in front of him, he popped the cap and took a drink, the ice cold beverage sliding down easily. He looked at Gene, with his smirk and curious eyes, and couldn't help but feel the need to grimace. At least he was better than Jeanine.
"I'm not sure why that's any of your business, Gene." He said after a moment, turning back around to face the crowd of people. Taking another drink, he scanned the crowd for blonde hair and pursed lips, knowing that mommy dearest wouldn't be thrilled to have lost her son in the crowd. Luckily, he couldn't find any source of her. "I see you've come out of your hiding place for once."
Eric shook his head. Gene was in charge of the fireworks, but he figured that that was the only thing he'd be there for. Of course, the leader beside him always managed to surprise, and today was no different. "What's wrong, didn't want to see your parents, either?" Eric couldn't help it. So what if he wanted someone else to be alone with — to not have to worry about seeing their old factions? It was perfectly acceptable. Faction over blood.
Crack a Bottle and Count Me Out ♦︎ Eric & Open
For once, Eric was in an extremely good mood. Now that he was actually out of Dauntless Headquarters, his attitude had shifted from that of a leader to a regular twenty-one year old male. Something about being outside of his faction was nice, nicer than it normally was, and it took him a moment to realize that it was because everyone around him was just as happy as he was. Smiling wide, he turned around to look at the surrounding area, the wind whipping at his locks.
That was, until he saw his mother. Dressed in blue and looking very leader-like, she hadn't even noticed him due to the fact that she was busy talking to another person. He cursed under his breath and prayed that she wouldn't look this way, because then he'd have to talk to her, and inform her of everything that'd been going on within Dauntless. And he really really didn't want to confront the woman. Unfortunately for him, it seemed that the world was not on his side that night, as just as he was about to avert his gaze, she looked up and met his.
Fuck.
Jeanine Matthews excused the person and made a beeline for him. Like a coward, Eric swallowed heavily and moved quickly into the crowded area, although no matter what he did, he knew that she'd be able to find him. He could already feel the sweat forming on the back of his neck, his fingers twitching as he moved pathways towards the open bar. Sliding up to the counter, he ordered a beer and put it on his tab, knowing that the Fourth of July was going to be a long, long night.
"I know I’m cute, Eric. You don’t have to tell me twice." He smirked, "Nah, we’ll see about that. Gotta give credit where it’s due."
"Oh, please. Even if I was gay, you wouldn't be my type." Eric laughed, shaking his head. "Whatever, man. I didn't learn everything from you, y'know."

Ava smiled gently towards the man. “I’m sure,” She swung her legs over the side of the bed and stretched, ignoring the pain in her neck. “I’ve never felt better.” The women joked. She had no idea how she got to the infirmary in the first place. “Oh god.” She laughed a little, covering her face with her hands. “You saw that?”
"I did." He pursed his lips as she swung her legs over the bed, knowing that she wanted to get up and leave, but Eric wasn't so sure that she should've been standing yet. At least he'd be there to catch her, though. "Only the last minute or so, if it makes you feel any better." He chuckled, shaking his head. "This isn't the first time you've blacked out, is it?" He could tell by looking at her — and her reaction when she'd woken up. Standard protocol was to ask the name, birth date, and what one was doing before they knocked out, and Ava had done all of those easily. She merely looked annoyed that she was still stuck in the infirmary, and that was not something a first-timer would do.
"I’ll be fine, just give me a shot of whisky and an ice pack."
"Are you sure, Ava?" Eric was worried about the trainer, having been at the fight when she had been knocked out. He'd been the one to take her to the infirmary and hadn't wanted to leave until he knew that she was all right. His relief had come quickly, but even more worry replaced his smile. "He nailed you pretty hard."
Word of the wise for all of you: I’d drop out of the fighting competition. You’re looking at the king of that shit right here. So unless you want to lose or get seriously injured, I’d back out now.
"Cute, O'Connell. Real cute." Eric grinned easily as he walked over towards the trainer. "The King? Now that's a bit much, even for you. We all know I'm gonna knock those fuckers right outta the ring — including you."
"yes sir, very happy."
"Don't call me sir. I do not have the mental capacity to deal with that at the moment." Eric let out a heavy sigh before raised a pierced eyebrow at Hawk. "You've done good. Keep it up, and maybe you won't fall back down again."
Why do you think I’m pissed? Cause I can’t change shit.
"Take that out with your initiates. It's not my fault they can't learn how to move up the board."

And they’re still wrong.
"Are you questioning my judgement? The scores are down, Riley. As much as you might hate them, you can't change them now."
"Are you fucking kidding me?"
"Something wrong?"
